Junior ShowmanshipSpecial Event

Harvest Moon Junior ClassicThis year, as a tribute to the youth of our sport, the Harvest Moon Cluster will be holding the inaugural Harvest Moon Junior Classic. We hope to bolster support for the spirit of camaraderie and competition among not only the future of our sport but among all of us that back them as they venture into the world of purebred dogs. We encourage everyone to come out and support the preliminary finalists and the Top 6!

Junior showmanship Competition at Del valle Dog Club of Livermore and skyline Dog fanciers Association will be offered free of charge.

All junior showmanship class winners from the Thursday, Friday, and Sunday shows as well as the Best Junior Handlers from Saturday’s specialties are eligible to compete for the Grand Best Junior of the weekend.

Grand Best Junior will be announced in the group ring prior to group judging and the preliminary finals will be comprised of a 3 person judging panel - Top 20 Style. These judges will be announced at the Preliminary Finals ring. On Sunday, regular junior showmanship class judging will be in the morning while finals preliminary judging will take place in the afternoon.

fINALs JUDGING:stage 1 - preliminaryAll junior showmanship class winners from the Thursday, Friday and Sunday all breed shows as well as Saturday’s specialties Best Juniors will enter the designated preliminary ring in the afternoon on Sunday. Once checked in, the class will be cut into sections to keep the ring manageable. It will not matter who is in each section, as the scores will be competing all participants against one another. There will be three judges in this ring - while one judge is working, the other two will be observing. Each judge will have responsibility for an aspect of presentation - for example, one will perform individual examination, another will move each handler individually etc. Each judge will have a scorecard and will be scoring each handler based on preset objectives. Once judging is complete, the scores will be tallied. All handlers reenter the ring and the Top 6 Finalists are announced. These juniors will come to the group rings for the presentation of Grand Best Junior.

stage 2 - Announcement of WinnerThe Top 6 Finalists enter the group ring. The announcer will explain the process by which the finalists were chosen, and the 3 judges will allow each junior to do a quick showcase of their skills. Grand Best Junior will then be announced.

prIzEs:A Rosette will be offered for Grand Best Junior.Additional prizes to include One Round Trip Ticket to either the 2012 Westminster Dog Show or the 2011 AKC Eukanuba Show and a 16GB iPad2. Prizes donated by Jamie Souza Bartlett.

CERF ClinicSunday, October 23, 2011

Located in the Hall of Commerce (Obedience & Rally Building)

Dr. Cynthia Cook (a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist) will be available from 9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. to perform eye examinations to detect inherited eye diseases such as cataracts, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA) and retinal dysplasia. The examination is quick and painless and is required for registration by the Canine Eye Registration Foundation (CERF). Annual examination is recommended for all dogs that are involved in a breeding program.

As eye drops are applied to dilate the pupils, it is recommended that the examination to be performed after your dog has completed judging. The effect of the eye drops lasts approximately 3 hours. The cost of the examination is $35.00 per dog. Please bring your animal's AKC registration number, tattoo or microchip number, and birth date with you for identification on the examination form.

Dog Washing on the FairgroundsPlease note important information!

The 1996 Clean Water Act is now being enforced at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. All gray water (which includes soapy water from washing dogs) must be discharged into sanitary sewer systems only and not dumped onto the ground or into storm drains. A hefty fine can be leveled against offenders. Del Valle will be placing Dog Bathtubs around the grounds for your convenience. Please check the Fairgrounds map in the Judging Program for designated dog washing locations. We will do our best to make it easy for all of you.

Show LimitsThe Jockeys, trainers and horse owners have asked that no exhibitors or dogs be allowed by horse stables, race track or horse exercise areas. It frightens their animals. Please abide by their wishes.
