RETINAL IMAGE/CLASSIFICATION SCHEDULE All market steers, commercial beef heifers, market lambs, and market goats MUST BE retinal imaged and classified (market goats are not classified) to show at the 2013 Mississippi State Fair and 2014 District and Dixie National Junior Round-Up Livestock Shows during the week of September 10-13, 2013. See the locations and times below. Make your exhibitors aware of these locations and dates so they can make plans to get their animals retinal imaged and classified.

• Tuesday, September 10: Verona – 8:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon • Tuesday, September 10: Senatobia – 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. • Wednesday, September 11: Greenwood – 8:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. • Thursday, September 12: Raymond – 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. • Friday, September 13: Hattiesburg – 8:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

For commercial beef heifers entered by November 26, it is anticipated that they will be retinal imaged and classified at the Hinds Community College facility in Raymond on Tuesday, December 10th, between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. CONTINUED MORATORIUM ON CERTIFYING NEW 4-H LIVESTOCK VOLUNTEER LEADERS The moratorium on certifying and registering new 4-H livestock volunteers is still in effect. Parents of new youth in your county can be certified to help their children at the shows, but a county being able to certify and register any new volunteer is not possible for now. A new registered volunteer system will be put in place soon and then those individuals can become livestock and/or horse certified. REMINDER: 4-H/FFA MEMBERS MUST BE ETHICS CERTIFIED TO SHOW LIVESTOCK!! The Mississippi State Fair will be here soon and the Mississippi Livestock Quality Assurance training for NEW exhibitors, parents or guardians, and volunteers must be completed by September 1, 2013. Any youth going from a junior (age 8-13) to a senior (age 14-18) will also need to be recertified as a senior. You should use the CD from last year and the training is also on the 4-H Livestock website. Code of Conduct Forms can be requested from ADS. SENIOR 4-H LIVESTOCK JUDGING CONTEST The senior 4-H livestock judging contest will be held Saturday, October 5th, starting at 7:00 a.m. This contest will be held in conjunction with the FFA livestock judging contest. If there are youth that want to judge in both contests, their scores will be used in both contests (4-H and FFA). For example, a contestant can be a member of the Smith County 4-H team and also a member of the Taylorsville FFA. All 4-H contestants in the 2013 contest must be pre-registered by September 27, 2013. Send your info to [email protected]. A county may enter as many senior contestants in the contest as they desire. However, you must designate your teams, if you have more than enough contestants to fill one team (Example: Oktibbeha A Team and Oktibbeha B Team). Individuals may compete for individual awards. The state winning senior 4-H Livestock Judging Team will represent Mississippi at the Western National 4-H Roundup in Denver, CO in January 2014. OFFICIAL HEALTH CERTIFICATE – REMINDER An Official Health Certificate with each animal identified will be required on all livestock showing at the 2013 Mississippi State Fair. This includes all market animals, beef breeding cattle, commercial beef heifers, dairy cattle (purebred and commercial dairy heifers), dairy goats and commercial meat goat does.

2013 MISSISSIPPI 4-H HORSE CHAMPIONSHIP The 2013 Mississippi 4-H Horse Championship, including team demonstration, individual demonstration, public speaking, horse bowl, hippology, horse judging, horse art, and horse photography contests, was an outstanding event! The show ran extremely smooth and this is due to the fine work and cooperation of many, many people. We want to express our appreciation to all exhibitors, parents, volunteers, leaders, agents, and specialists for their excellent cooperation and interest in the 4-H horse program. We especially appreciate the Extension agents/program associates and volunteers for working at the show and admire their dedication to seeing that the show is run in the best way possible.
