~ Director’s Corner ~
Ladies and gentlemen, I hope you have all enjoyed
the first couple months of the 2019 NWSAM competition
season!! The events have been fairly well attended, and the
completion has been great! Have already had some new
names at the top of the score board this year, and sure there
will be more before it is all said and done.
We have a lot coming up in the next couple of
months as a group with our championship event coming up
at the end of August in Wenatchee, and we will have our
annual NWSAM membership meeting on Friday the 23rd at
the contest. Dinner and beverage will be provided, and I
will have an agenda out to everyone before the event. The
Wenatchee group always puts on a great contest, so I am
hoping to see all of you there! Let’s get this to be the
biggest and best scale contest in the country, and encour-
age all of your friends to attend and compete. I would love
to help our championship event get to 50 registered pilots!!
Only a few short weeks after our NWSAM
Championships will be the Warbirds over Wenatchee event
and if you have never attended, this is a great way to get
your favorite warbirds out for a few more sorties before the
fall and winter set in. Again, the Wenatchee Red Apple
Flyers put on a great event, and this is one of my favorites
every year!
In closing, I would like to say thank you to all of
the clubs, club members, and contest directors who put in
all of the hard work to make our competition season
possible each and every year. Without you folks, we would
not be able to play with our toys, and compete in this
hobby we all love so much! It is a pleasure to be able to fly
with, visit, and compete with each and every one of you!
See you all in Wenatchee for the championship!

All of the eligibility events are now in the books,
with the next one being the championships in Wenatchee
only about two weeks away. To say it has been a windy
spring would be an understatement! The third annual
Spring Scale Opener was held on May 18th and 19th. We
only had 13 contestants flying in the event, so we did not
get off to a great start. We may need to look into cancelling
the event, or finding a better date for the event.
The scores for the first events are posted on the web
page at www.nwscale.org, with the Chehalis event scores
coming soon. Here is the run down for the Spring Scale
Opener.

NWSAM Championships
Greetings from central Oregon! Summer flying is in full force, and thank you to all who attended the scale rally in Redmond, OR this year! Once again it was a hit, pilot registration was up, and local participation including judging help was added thanks to the University of Ingram Judging Graduating class! One of the big hits of the week-end was Dell's new Stearman PT-17 flown by some guy named "Stucky". A huge congrats and thank you to all winners and competitors! Everyone enjoyed a chicken din-ner Saturday night, and a special thank you should go out to those that made the raffle a huge hit! House of Balsa, Zap, Tom Rainwater, Remote Control Hobbies of Olym-pia, the Burgess Brothers, Tower hobbies, and Rick/RRC Hobbies. Once again pretty cool feeling to be part of this organization called NWSAM! Fly safe, and see you on the flight line! Paul Haynes
