NORTHERN WILDERNESS

From the background fabric,

cut a strip 1-3/4” wide.

From the 1-1/4” wide strip

cut four rectangles 4-1/4”

long.

Also from the 1-1/4” strip cut

four squares 1-1/4”.

Using either the Easy Angle

or the Omnigrid Right

Triangle ruler, cut sixteen

half square triangles from

the 1-3/4” strip.

From the rust fabric, cut a

strip 3” wide.

From 3” strip cut four 3”

squares.

Also rom the rust fabric, cut

a strip 1-3/4” wide.

From the 1-3/4” wide strip

cut sixteen half square

triangles using either the

Easy Angle or the Omnigrid

right triangle ruler.

Also from the 1-3/4” strip,

cut one square 1-3/4” wide.

Match the rust right triangles

with the background right

triangles and stitch them

together.

Finger press the seams

toward the rust triangles.

Match the half square

triangle units together in

pairs. Half of the units need

to face one direction and half

should be mirror images.

Stitch the pairs together.

Finger press toward the rust

triangle. Add the 1-3/4’

background squares to half

of the unit pairs. It should

be against the edge of the

rust triangle. Stitch.

Add the other set of half

square triangles to one side

of the 3” squares. The rust

edge of the half square

triangles should be against

the square. Stitch.

Add the other half square

triangle units to the sides of

the 3” square unit as shown.

Position the bear paw units

as shown.

Add the background

rectangles and the 1-3/4”

square. Stitch together in

rows.

I finger pressed the seams in

the center row toward the

center, and the seams in the

top and bottom rows toward

the outside.

Stitch the rows together to

complete the block. Now

give a final press with the

iron.
