Dear Charolais Friends I think we will have to change the name of this sale to “The Proven Source of Charolais Champions.” What a year the consignments from this sale have had since the sale wrapped up last October. This group of consignors and the cattle they have presented each and every year has truly come into its own. There have been so many winners, champions and money made that we can’t even use pictures of all of them on the “Alumni” page. But, the most exciting and without a doubt the most gratifying came in January, just three months after the Northern Exposure Sale was over, when Bomshell was selected the National Reserve Grand Champion Female in Denver! Our cumulative congratulations to Grady Dickerson, the Dickerson family and Bar S Ranch in Kansas for their fortitude in bidding long enough to buy her for $14,000 on Oct. 3, 2009. But, that wasn’t the only successful story. Just look through this alumni page and throughout this catalog to read and see more of the great things that have happened with the genetics that have come through the Northern Exposure. Yes, this sale has the reputation that many heifers sell fairly high, but don’t let that scare you out. There are many super show heifers that sell in a reasonable range. You just have to fi nd the one that fi ts your desires and needs and make her your next champion.

We all want to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Bruce Rastetter for graciously hosting this sale again. It takes a lot of work and expense to put on a sale like this one, and we thank Bruce and his manager, Mike Schwarck, for inviting us in. If you get the chance ask for a tour of the beautiful horse show barn below the cattle facility, you will see some of the most awesome Percheron draft horses in the world.

As always, I want to also thank Chad Zehnder and Chris Polzin who began this sale in 1999 and asked me to work with them, and together we couldn’t have imagined where it has led us today. If there is anything we can do to make your visit to Summit Farms more enjoyable, please don’t hesitate to call upon any of us.

BW: 88 lbs. From our host ranch comes one of the most exciting show and brood cow prospects to be offered this year. This yearling heifer was the “belle of the ball” last year here at the Northern Exposure Sale. Just a couple of weeks old at the side of her dam in which a successful fl ush was being offered, several breeders tried to buy her, even partnering up to pry her away from the Summit Farms staff. You will love her thick, thick thickness, moderation and volume. Her dam sold in the 2007 National Charolais Sale for $16,000 to Summit Farms, and the fl ush in her last year sold for $3,750.

As always Chris Polzin will bring in a set of ET sisters to the Northern Exposure sale that will excite the crowd.Razzle, Jazzle and Dazzle will “dazzle” your senses, and they should. Just look at what this pedigree combination has done before here at the Northern Exposure.Precision has always sired some of the most sought-after show heifers, but in 2007 he brought it to a whole new level. Who was his partner in crime? WCCC Ms Wind 448!At that Northern Exposure sale two Precision x 448s both sold at three months of age for $3,750 and went on that following summer to be named the Junior National Division I Champion and Reserve Champion heifers in Des Moines.#448 also sold that day for $12,000 for one-half interest to Southern Cattle Co.

A fi rst-time offering and a great one from an up and coming breeder.Hansen Farms produced the recently named 2010 AIJCA Junior National Reserve Grand Champion Heifer, HF Mustang Sally 904 Pld, for Cally Thomas. There should be approximately 30 calves to choose from. The buyer will get 100% of any heifer calf selected and two-thirds interest and full possession of a bull calf. Most of these fall 2010 calves are ETs with many being sired by Fire Water out of Thomas Ms AJ 0621K, making them full sibs to Hansen’s 2008 Louisville Reserve Grand Champion Heifer, HF Miss Torrie 722, who was also the 2008 South Dakota State Fair Grand Champion Female. Many more of these fall 2010 ET calves are sired by TR Red Smoke and LT Bluegrass out of the principal Hansen donor, RA Ms Queen Cigar 2055 P, a Cigar granddaughter. There is a wide spread of ages to select from starting in July through November. There are also some natural born calves sired by our new herd sire, SVY Chill Out, and some by the $37,000 Sparrows Fargo. This is a great opportunity to come pick out another great one from the heart of the Hansen Farms program.
