Mrs. Donnelly's second grade class at Mount Wolf Elementary read their Scholastic News this week titled
"Rainbow Plants.” In this issue, the kids learned about a tree with colored bark, carrots of different colors, and
how to change the color of a white rose. The class thought it would be fun to experiment with this concept so
they chose six different colors to add to water to see if the celery would change colors by “drinking” the water
from the glasses. They were so excited with how the experiment turned out that they wouldn’t let Mrs. Donnel-
ly throw out the celery!
Congratulations to Jacob Sands, a tenor
sax player in the NMS Band. On Satur-
day, March 9, Jacob performed at a jazz
concert with Inspire Music, a local mu-
sic school, directed by Curt Sipe.
Jacob's band is called The Hornets, is
directed by Steve Fieldhouse, and in-
cludes 5 saxes and a rhythm section.
During the concert, each student has a
chance to improvise and Jacob's improv
was very smooth!! Kudos to Jacob!!
Representatives from the Seeing Eye Dog Program visited
our 4th graders at Shallow Brook Intermediate School to
teach us more about how guide dogs are trained. Rebecca
Geesey, Nancy Roberts, and Valorie Hobbs brought in their
puppies that are currently in training. This visitation was in
conjunction with our Houghton Mifflin Anchor Text, The
Right Dog for the Job, which explains how one heroic dog is
trained to help others who have difficulties with everyday
life. The students had a great time interacting with Vivian,
Violet, and Jasmine and learning more about how to become
a puppy raiser.
