Can summer be over already? I’m not ready for the change…there is too much work left to do in the garden! There were a few of us volunteering at the Elkhorn Valley Museum Garden in August. I was really pleased with the change in the garden from June. It was full of blooms and butterflies. Of course, it’s a work in progress, but can’t we all say that about our own gardens? Please remember to drop in there if you need a few hours of volunteer time. Our first meeting will be at the Extension Office’s new building. Detailed directions are in this newsletter. Remember that this meeting will be a plant exchange. There is not a scheduled speaker. The meeting will be Saturday, September 8 and will begin at 9:00 a.m. Pਅਓਅ ਉਇ ਙਏਕ ਏਗ ਈਉ (ਆਏਉਇ) ਔਏ ਔਈਅ ਅਅਔਉਇ. While we are talking about monthly presentations, the officers got together and came up with a few ideas. I haven’t heard back from anyone yet, so hoping we can find enough speakers interested. If you have an idea or would like to present to us, please let one of the officers know. I actually made it to Lauritzen Gardens this weekend! It was pretty impressive with lots of beautiful flowers and plants. We rode the tram since it was so hot, but hope to someday spend more time wandering the gardens. W G T On June 26, Master Gardeners met in Wayne to tour five gardens. We started at Char Rasmussen’s garden

which featured mostly Hostas. She had several small patches of sun plants, but this was a Hosta lovers paradise. Most of the Hostas were labeled so that made it very handy for anyone who was interested in a certain variety.

Next, we went to the colorful garden of Joan and Gary West. Joan loves blue and had many blue pots each filled with an assortment of annuals. Their well-manicured lawn accentuated the beautiful colors and strategically placed lawn ornaments.

Next, we went to the home of Lauren Walton. She has started a business selling bouquets for weddings and per-ennials you can plant. She is licensed and had a wonderful assortment of lilies to view when we were there.

Pearl Hansen’s farm home was our next stop. She explained how she has tried to save things on this century-old farm and how she managed the damage from the tornado that hit Wayne. She is a retired art professor at Wayne State and also showed us her art studio.

We finished at Deb Daehnke’s rural garden and enjoyed some wonderful snacks. The weather blessed us with a wonderful evening to enjoy some beautiful gardens.
