New In-Person Camps All new in-person camp options are tentative and subject to change based on the District’s ability to provide a safe and quality experience for staff and participants while following all guidance from the Village of Northbrook, the State of Illinois’ Restore Illinois Plan, the CDC and the Illinois Department of Public Health. New Virtual Camps A variety of virtual camp options have also been developed for the 2020 Summer Season for ages 2 to 13. These virtual at-home camp options require adult guidance and/or supervision. Complete details are on page 3. Participant Requirements In-Person programming at the Northbrook Park District will be offered to participants at least 8 years old who are in or entering 3rd grade* and who can adhere to the Northbrook Park District’s Appropriate Behavior Guidelines and camp rules. Additional details including a list of rules, expectations, room assignments, and drop off and pickup procedures will be sent to enrolled campers the week of June 8. Appropriate Behavior Guidelines Participants are expected to exhibit appropriate behavior at all times while participating in Park District programs and activities and while in Park District facilities. Such behavior includes respecting: a) other participants, Park District staff and patrons; b) all equipment used in or a part of a program or activity; and c) all facilities used to conduct the program or the activity. Patrons will also be expected to abide by all Park District program and facility rules, as applicable, which Park District staff will review with participants. Failure to abide by these rules may result in a participant’s dismissal from a program or facility. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, participants shall also be required to comply with routine COVID-19 health and safety requirements. Specific details regarding these and any other related requirements shall be provided by the Park District prior to the first day of each camp session. Rules will include: • Following physical distancing requirements including tolerating a mask when indoors or when distancing is not possible. • Cooperatively following verbal directions to perform tasks such as tying shoes, washing hands, and using the restroom. Independently tracking belongings and carrying items with them to different program locations. Sessions, Fees and Payments for In-person Camps The fee for in-person camps is $1,260 per 4-week session. A 25% deposit is due at the time of registration. If registering after outlined payment dates, the deposit and the first and/or second payment will be due upon registration. All camp fees must be paid prior to the start of each session. Payments for camp will be required on the following dates, unless paid in full at time of registration: Session 1: June 15 – July 10 (4 weeks) • First Payment Due Friday, May 29 • Second Payment Due Friday, June 12 Session 2: July 13 – August 7 (4 weeks) • First Payment Due Monday, June 22 • Second Payment Due Monday, July 6 *For in-person camps, why 8 years old, and in or entering 3rd Grade? It is the District’s intent to keep our participants as safe as possible, following guidelines from national, state and local oversight agencies. Therefore, along with many safety modifications for camps and programs, the Northbrook Park District has made the determination to offer in-person programs beginning with children who are at least 8 years old and in or entering 3rd grade. Based on our experience in recreational settings, children at this age exhibit greater independence from family, a critical factor when children will be required to practice physical distancing without parental guidance. In addition, children at this age can complete life skills such as taking care of belongings, tying shoes and caring for personal hygiene with only verbal direction. While physical activities and games are part of most programs, children of this age are more likely to follow directions and exhibit the necessary coordination to jump, skip, run and play while practicing physical distancing. In a revised program setting, which may be more like school at times, children at this age have typically developed an increased attention span which will set them up for a successful camp and program experience.
