It was great to see all the Thunderbirds at the Wheels for Wellness show. The NTVT contributed $760 to the detection, treatment, and cure of prostate cancer. Way to go! With the year winding down, we just have a few events left in 2017. There are several local shows coming up and I encour-age you to participate in those to let the public see and admire your Thunderbirds.

The NTVT board met on September 27th to start planning for

next year and get the ball rolling for a spring trip. I am excited about the variety of events proposed and we hope to have sev-eral choices for the club at the January planning meeting.

There has been no regional convention planned for 2018 by the VTCT, our parent organization, so we will have our own club outing. Last year we went to Kerrville and Fredericksburg. Condolences and Concerns

We extend our deepest sympathies to Jeanne Quattlebaum in the recent passing of her hus-band and our friend Larry Quattlebaum. Jeanne and Larry have been long time members of NTVT as well as other Thunderbird clubs in the area. Larry will certainly be missed.

Services for Larry will held at the graveside at Lee Cemetery in Winnsboro, TX, on Sunday, Oc-tober 1st at 2:00 p.m. There will be a visitation in the home of his sister at 4:00 p.m. that same day.

We also send get well wishes to member Newman Lofland’s step-son who had open heart sur-gery last week. Our thoughts are with his whole family as he goes through recovery.

October Meeting—Oct 21st You are all invited to the October 21 NTVT meeting at the Haber Forney Farm! We would have named it the Funny Farm, but our next-door neighbor already labeled his place as such. And it’s not really a “farm,” unless you include growing poison ivy and pampas grass as a crop, or raising arma-dillos on grubs and pond geese as livestock. However, our neighbors do have fun things like cows, horses, donkeys, and Shetland ponies. But I digress.

Come as early as 10:30, stay as late as you desire. If it is your passion, bring a fishing pole (fully stocked catch & release 5 acre pond) and/or swim suit (not for the fishing pond… we have a real cement pond, Jethro!) We’ll plan on serving lunch around 11:30, meet-ing to follow around 12 or 12:15. We will prepare chicken & beef fajita meat, as well as sauté onions & peppers separately. It would be great if you guys can supply the rest:

plates, napkins, utensils Lettuce for salad, shredded lettuce for

tacos, tomatoes, shredded cheese Hard taco shells, tortillas Sour cream, salsa, guacamole, tortilla

chips Beans or anything else you desire Desserts

Bring a pop-up canopy if you have one. Extra lawn chairs would be handy. If Tom is not coming, we may need help with drinks. The address is 14026 Overlook Ln, Forney 75126. Google gives perfect directions. Beware that we are 1/3 mile down a private gravel road. Please (for your car’s sake and reduction of dust clouds) travel the road at 10-12 mph. We are at the top of the hill on the right; the gate will be open.

Welcome New Members

We were glad to meet our new member, Dennis Viet, at the Wheels for Wellness event. Dennis and his wife Marie, of Arlington, joined a while back but cir-cumstances have kept them from getting together with us. He has a beautiful baby bird, and we look forward to getting better acquainted with him and Marie as time goes on. He also brought along his son, Dennis Jr., and it was good to meet him as well.

NTVT would also like to welcome new members Betty and Bob William from Granbury! Betty and Bob have a 1956 T-bird. And Merle and Cynthia Tanner have also recently joined our club. They own a 1962 Roadster. We look forward to meeting our newest members soon!

September Meeting Minutes NTVT held a brief street meeting at the Wheels for Wellness Car Show on 9/16/2017. Brad went

over the next few meetings and said details for the October meeting at Ralph and Betsy’s would be included in the September newsletter. There will also be a driving event in November, on the 11th; we will possibly visit the Audie Murphy museum in Greenville and then cruise to the Martin’s house in Farmersville. Watch your email for details on that. Brad also reported that the board will be meet-ing soon to discuss next year’s schedule. If you have suggestions or ideas, email them to Brad or Jim Young, VP in charge of events. Brad also mentioned that former member Dan Sublette would be giving quite a lot of used Thunderbird parts to the club. Brad will generate an inventory and dis-tribute it to the club so that members have first chance to get those parts.

There are several outside shows coming up: Oct. 7th Karz for Kids in Ft Worth will benefit a youth football team (see Rosa Valdez for info); Oct. 7 is also the day at the State Fair featuring our friends in the Big D Little Birds, and you are invited to bring your Baby Bird. Oct 15 there will be a fundraising show for Richland HS Baseball program. Oct. 22 will be the Hot Rods and Heroes show at the Lost Oak Winery. November will bring the ASM Car, Truck, & Bike show in Dallas (for which NTVT members will judge) and the 3rd Annual SSG Alex Viola Memorial Car Show in Keller.

Brad briefly discussed the possibility of having another spring trip next year. We may try to incor-porate some sights on the Bankhead Highway. The group also discussed that there may be an In-ternational Convention for the VTCI (our parent organization) but that no date has been announced as of yet. Bonnie asked the ladies to remember the upcoming Ladybirds and Friends Lunch in Hurst on Sept 23. Brad also asked that we keep Larry and Jeanne Quattlebaum in our prayers as Larry had been moved to Hospice. [editor’s note—Larry passed away on Sept 19 and you all should have received a message about it.]

Before closing the meeting, Brad reminded anyone who has not received a pictorial directory to see him. Bonnie added that updates to the pictorial directory would be coming out before the end of the year.

October Begins Car Show Season! The weather is cooling down (or will be soon!) so we have fewer

excuses to get our Thunderbirds out and show them off! If you are looking for a couple of good places to do that, why not attend Karz for Kids, a fundraiser at the Twisted Oar, 6500 Wells Burnett Rd, Ft Worth, 76135 on October 7 (a Saturday) beginning at 1 p.m. Our own member, Rosa Valdez, will be there with her pretty black Retro. Won’t you consider joining her and supporting this fundraiser for her grandson’s Football Team. Also on October 7, the Classic Corral at the Texas State Fair will feature the Big D Little Bird Club; anyone with a Baby Bird is invited to join them. Send a text to Les Gray at 214.808.4318 for more info.

Sunday, October 15th will be the 4th Annual Richland HS Baseball Rebel Yell Car Show held in Haltom City from noon to 4 p.m. at 5600 Denton Highway. Setup time will be 11 a.m.

Then on Sunday afternoon, 10/22, from 3-6, you can join the Kershaws and Dominic Zanella at Chisholm Trail’s Hot Rods and Heroes Motor Festival at the Lost Oak Winery on FM 731 in Burleson. The proceeds from this show support Law Enforcement charities.

On Saturday, Nov. 4th, members of NTVT will judge entries at the ASM Upholstery Charity Car, Truck, & Bike show in Dallas. Members who volunteer to judge will receive a stipend, but several are planning to donate their pay back to the St Jude’s Children’s Hospital which is benefiting from this show.

If you volunteered (or would like to!), contact Dom Zanella and watch your email for more information. NTVT cars may be dis-played but will not be eligible for competition.

Also on November 11th, you can participate in the 3rd Annual SSG Alex Viola Memorial Car Show at Keller Town Hall Regis-tration opens at 10 a.m. and the show runs until 5 p.m. Check the website ssgalexviola.org for more info. Proceeds from this charitable show support the Green Beret Foundation and the Special Opera-tions Warrior Foundation.

Ladybirds of NTVT—Setting our Sites on January 6

On Saturday, Septem-ber 23rd, several NTVT members and their guests enjoyed lunch and great conversation at Mitra’s Tea-room on Pipeline in Hurst. The food was delicious, the laughter was hearty, and the fun was contagious. If you would enjoy a lady’s day out, be sure to join us at our next Ladybirds and Friends Luncheon. It’s not all car talk! But very bit of it was fun and uplifting.

With the approach of the holidays and busy schedules, we decided not to meet again until after Christmas. So mark your calendars now for Saturday, January 6. We’ll have lunch at 12:30, but you might want to come early to browse in the antique mall—you might find something you can’t live without! Beat the January, post-holiday doldrums by coming and perhaps bringing a friend. Non-Thunderbird owners welcome!

MANY Thunderbird parts will soon be available. Former NTVT member Dan Sublette is preparing to move and cleaning out his shop! Brad will be emailing the club with a complete inventory soon. Dan wants the club members to have first shot at these parts, many of which are for 1961-1966 Tbirds. Watch your email for a listing of parts. VTCI International Convention Report The North Georgia Vintage Thunderbird Club hosted the 2017 VTCI International Convention

September 14-17th in Atlanta, GA. It sounds like this convention was lots of fun even though Hurri-cane Irma threatened to disrupt the affair! The hotel did lose power for a short time, but the storm turned out not be severe in that area, much to everyone’s relief!

NTVT’s own Al and Barbara McDonald attended and graciously agreed to be our “roving report-ers;” we are grateful to them for sending us pictures and a report. Marilyn and Brian Carron from the South Texas Vintage Thunderbird Club also attended and sent us some pics and information as well. Those two couples brought the only cars from the South Central Region, and they repre-sented us well, with the McDonald’s earning a First Place Modified with their 1956 Fiesta Red Baby Bird and the Carron’s maintaining their First Place Senior Status and earning Best in Show, Trail-ered, with their 1956 Colonial White T-Bird. Other guests from our region who chose to take in the fun without the cars were Gerry and Cheryl B from South Texas and Van Gale from the Acadian Thunderbird Club in New Orleans.

The judging field included 28 Square Birds, Retros, and Little Birds, with an additional 6 cars there for display only, from all over the country and Canada.

Barb and Al said the North Georgia club did an excellent job hosting the affair, especially two ladies, Cookie and Faith, who did an outstanding job with the hospitality room. The tours available to the participants sounded incredible, too. One group toured the Panoz Racing Facility on Thurs-day; and another group toured Downtown Atlanta on Friday ,and many got to visit the World of Co-ca-Cola.

If you have never had the opportunity to attend a VTCI International Convention, make sure to leave a spot on your calendar for one in the future. They are lots of fun, and you can’t beat the fel-lowship with other Thunderbird owners!

award for their 1956 Colonial White Bird. Marilyn also received a Golden Quill Award

for their club newsletter. Congrats on both!

Bob and Betty Pickard recently acquired a new 1956 bird and wanted to share their good news with the club. Bob says this one is going to be much better on gasoline than his other vintage Baby Bird!

Who is going to break it to Bob that the magnetic door sign is not going to fit on this one?? Shoot, it doesn’t even look like the “Do Not Touch” magnet will fit!
