The Edible Garden Project (EGP) is a program of the NSNH that builds community through growing local food on the North Shore. As our Farmhand you will work on our social enterprise urban farm operations at Loutet Farm and the Sutherland Schoolyard Market Garden. You will report to the EGP Manager and assist our Farmer with their day to day farm operations, volunteer and intern coordination, community outreach, site maintenance, harvesting and marketing. For more information visit: http://www.ediblegardenproject.com/ RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist with day to day farm operations. • Keep accurate daily records of farm activities. • Assist in coordinating corporate volunteer teams, tours, farm gate sales and community work. • Assist Farmer to coordinate 3-5 farm interns 1-3 days per week, and 2-20 volunteers weekly. • Assist with the maintenance of farm site(s) to the standards defined by License to Use agreements. • Maintain and build positive relationships with the community. REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: • 1+ years experience in a mixed vegetable direct market farm enterprise. • 1+ years experience in customer service, cash handling, or running farm market sales. • Experience supervising or coordinating groups of 2-20 volunteers. • Excellent communication skills, and a great team player. • Able to work weekends and some evenings. • Ability to bend, squat and lift up to 50+ lbs safely. • Reasonable proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, Google Drive, Gmail, and ability to track data. BONUS ASSETS: • Reasonable proficiency using power drills, saws, and basic construction tools. • 2+ years experience working in a non-profit environment or social enterprise. • 2+ years experience in outdoor/experiential education. • Foodsafe Certification. • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle. • Apiary certification. POSITION DETAILS: • Contract (you are responsible for your own tax, CPP, etc deductions). • 35 hours/week (weekend and some evenings availability required)
