North Presbyterian Church 4th Sunday after Pentecost
July 2, 2017 9:30 am
WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD
Prelude Christians, We Have Met to Worship arr. Marohnic Greeting, Welcome, and Opportunities for Discipleship
Welcome to our guests and visitors! We invite you, if you feel comfortable, to introduce yourself at this time. We are glad you are here. We hope you will fill out the welcome pad (in the pew holder) to help us get acquainted. We also invite you to join us for lemonade following worship.
Everyone—please silence your cell phones.
Call to Worship I will sing of your steadfast love, O Lord, and proclaim your faithfulness to all generations. Your steadfast love endures forever. Your faithfulness is as high as the heavens. Happy are those who sing your praise and extol your righteousness all the day.
Invocation
*Hymn 731 Give Thanks for Those Whose Faith Is Firm (During the singing of the hymn, please pass prayer requests to center aisle.)
*Call to Confession
*Prayer of Confession Awesome and compassionate God, you have loved us with unfailing, self-giving mercy, but we have not loved you. You constantly call us, but we do not listen. You ask us to love, but we walk away from neighbors in need, wrapped in our own concerns. We condone evil, prejudice, warfare, and greed. God of grace, as you come to us in mercy, we repent, admit our sin, and gratefully receive your forgiveness through Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. Amen.
*Silent Confession (A time for personal confession of sin)
*Assurance of Forgiveness Hear the good news!
God loves us. God forgives us.
*Response Hymn # 591 (Refrain) Halle, Halle, Halleluja! Halle, Halle, Halleluja! Halle, Halle, Halleluja!
Halle, Halle, Halleluja! Halleluja! Halleluja! Halleluja!
*Passing of the Peace Having received Christ’s peace, let us share it by turning to our neighbors and greeting them, saying “May the peace of Christ be with you!”
Solo Take My Life, and Let It Be Consecrated Hayes Alanna Carlins, soloist

Offering Offertory: Here I Am, Lord arr. Carter
*Doxology Hymn 300 (vs. 4)
All praise to the Father, From whom all things come, And all praise to Christ Jesus, God’s only Son, And all praise to the Spirit, who makes us one: And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, By our love; yes they’ll know we are Christians by our love.
Celebration of the Lord’s Supper The Invitation to the Lord’s Table
Solo We Gather at Your Table, Lord arr. Ehret
Great Prayer of Thanksgiving
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.
We offer you praise, dear God … your unending greatness:
Holy, Holy, Holy © 1986 by GIA Publications, Inc
Hear us, O Christ … Great is the mystery of faith:
Christ Has Died
© 1986 by GIA Publications, Inc
It is in this mystery … in the words you have taught us:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
Communion of the People Our Lord invites all who trust in him, and all who long to trust in him, to share in this meal, which he has prepared. Communion will be received by intinction. Please come up the center aisle and return down side aisles. (If your diet requires gluten-free bread, please go to the station at the foot of the steps in the center.)
Prayer after Communion You have given yourself to us, Lord; now we give ourselves for others. Your love has made us a new people; as a people of love we will serve you with joy. Your glory has filled our hearts;
help us to glorify you in all things. Amen.
WE DISPERSE TO SERVE GOD IN THE WORLD
*Hymn 700 I’m Gonna Live So God Can Use Me
*Charge
*Benediction
*Congregational Amen Hymn 568
*Postlude Lord, Whose Love Through Humble Service arr. Marohnic
*Those who are able, please stand.

Remember Our Friends on the 9th Floor Today! (see insert)
Today is our last day of this year’s Veterans Mission Project campaign to raise funds for our
friends at Willow Lodge. Will you make a difference?
Cereal, Tuna, and PB&J, Oh My!
The folks at University Presbyterian Church (UPC) have asked us to thank all of you for your
generous support of its food pantry. The Mission Committee echoes their gratitude. You have
responded to our request to regularly bring donations of non-perishable food.
Summer is a difficult time for food pantries; folks go on vacation and donations decrease.
Children who have been in school all year are now home for breakfast and lunch. The UPC
food pantry needs our help once again.
Usually the easiest way for us to help is to send a check from the Mission budget or the
Turkey Basket Fund, but not this year. The Mission budget has been greatly reduced, and
although we still will be using excess funds in the Turkey Basket Fund for hunger-related
needs, everything will be stretched further—a lot further. And then there is the big question
of the federal budget.
Therefore the Mission Committee is asking the congregation of North Church to respond as
they always have to specific needs. We need you to keep items for the food pantry on your
grocery shopping list and to purchase something(s) every week. Especially needed are cereal,
peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti sauce and pasta, canned tuna, and canned vegetables and fruit.
If you buy it and bring it to church with you on a Sunday, the Mission Committee will take
donations to UPC. Thank you as always for your overwhelming generosity!
Hey Kids, Let’s Go to Darien Lake!
On Monday, August 7, children going into grades four, five, and six are invited to Darien Lake
for the day. Lunch and park ticket for each student will be provided. This trip is provided from
proceeds received from our fundraisers during the year. Those who plan to attend must RSVP
by July 9 to pre-teen coordinator Kim Will at [email protected].
Join Sarah Circle on a Mission Project with Harvest House
“Bottles for Babies” helps more than 5,800 children in our community. Beginning in mid-June
there will be bottles available for you to take and fill with loose change and bring back to
church by the beginning of November.
Peace Pole Flower Pots
Wanted: peace pole flowering containers to join one at the peace pole (formerly the
labyrinth). Originally the plan was to plant a garden around the peace pole, but the deer and
the need for constant care makes this idea not feasible at this time.
Faith Formation and Bible Study for Adults
Join us for Bible study in the New Testament book of Hebrews on one or more summer
Sundays at around 10:30 a.m. in the library. We will hang our study around the topics in the
2017-18 PW/Horizons Bible Study Cloud of Witnesses, by Melissa Bane Sevier.
Bible study in the resource center
The study of The Parables of Jesus will resume in the fall.
All Aboard!
Join Journey’s End and Casual Cruise for a Cause on Sunday, August 13, from 6:30-9:00 p.m.
to set sail on the Grand Lady for a marvelous two-hour trip on Lake Erie with music, light
snacks, and a cash bar. Of the $28 per person ticket price, $10 goes directly to Journey’s End.
You can make a difference and have a fun-filled night with friends! Watch the bulletin and
next week’s email for links on how to register or go to the church’s Facebook page.

throughout July. Azubike Kalu-Nwiwu will deliver them. Thank you.
Interfaith Playgroup

Thursdays this summer. Join us in the nursery at North Church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on
July 13 & 27; and August 10 & 24. No formal agenda is planned. Our goal is making friends
among all of God's children. (Note: caregivers must stay with their children. This is not a
drop-off activity.)
