Report prepared by
Jennifer Weber, Ph.D., NDUS Institutional Research
METHODOLOGY
Degree completion data presented in this report summarizes the data reported by each NDUS institution to the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) for the Summer 2016, Fall 2016, and Spring 2017 academic terms. Inclusive dates of degree completion are from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017.
IPEDS reported data includes student program completion by Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) code and level of award (diploma, certificate, or degree). CIP codes were originally developed by the National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) and consist of a taxonomy in which every postsecondary instructional program is classified by a six digit code. CIP codes are used in this Programs Completed report to identify programs in which NDUS students were awarded diplomas, certificates, or degrees. The table below identifies the IPEDS award level for completed programs, as well as the corresponding abbreviation used in this report.

Total degrees completed reflects both first and second majors in cases where dual degrees were reported. In total, NDUS institutions awarded 10,810 degrees of which 10,393 were first majors and 417 were second majors. This is an increase of 2.6% over the number of degrees awarded during the 2015-16 academic year (10,534). A summary table by institution is presented in Table I.
Total program completion data is presented for the North Dakota University System, collective summaries for NDUS Community Colleges, Regional Universities and Research Universities, and summaries for each of the eleven NDUS institutions.
The appendix shows total completions for the North Dakota private and tribal institutions.
