North Central West Virginia AORN Chapter members are employed in nine hospitals and live in three states. Chapter members travel over many bridges and highways to attend meetings at the five hosting hospitals.The New River Bridge, pictured above, connects part of the state, spans 3,030 feet in length, and it is the second highest bridge in the US. At 876 ft., and the arch length of 1700 ft. it is the longest steel single arch span in the world. (http://www.worldtravelattractions.com)

Option 1: Community involvement
Hosting hospital members select a local charity for members to support at their monthly meeting.
Members collect $90 cash donation for the Dove Center of Garrett County Maryland, a domestic abuse and sexual assault shelter, during the May meeting at Garrett County Memorial Hospital.
Canned goods, nonperishables, and cash donations are collected for the Marion County Soup Opera. The Soup Opera offers a hot meal and daily necessities to those in need in the community.
Chapter members annually support Camp Kno-Koma, a children's diabetic camp, with needed food supplies.
Chapter members support surgical mission trips. Pictured above Chapter members (L-R) Mary Wilson, Jay Bowers, Dawn Yost assist with packing surgical supply in preparation for trip to Niagara.
Members attending each meeting earn one (1) Continuous Education Unit from presentation. Presentations are open to all regardless of membership.
Option 2 : Education
Chapter members learn about Scope management at Garrett County Memorial Hospital during the April meeting.
Chapter members earn one (1) CEU from
presentation by 3 M Corporation at June meeting hosted by Fairmont General
Hospital.
NC WV AORN partners with ASPAN for annual education and vendor fair.
Chapter members can earn up to 6 CEU’s for attending

The study, Prospective Evidence on the Use of Clinical Indicators as Discharge Criteria in Perianesthesia Phase II Recovery: A Descriptive Study, has been completed and an abstract of the study is presented.
The study, Hospital and Academic Partnership: An Approach to Identify Significant Predictors of Surgical Count Inaccuracies in the Operating Room, has been completed.
The study, Evaluation of the Perioperative Glycemic Screening Protocol on the Identification and Early Intervention of Persons with Undiagnosed Diabetes in the Perioperative Setting, is currently underway

Each year a Chapter member is selected by vote of the Scholarship Committee to receive $50 upon successful completion of CNOR certification.

earn six (6) contact hours of education. Educational sessions are open to everyone regardless
of membership. Chapter members involved in research projects. Chapter member selected by vote receive annual $50
upon successful completion of CNOR certification.
