The purpose of this handout is to showcase the features of Standards Gradebook that support standards-based grading.

Depending on a school district’s philosophy of standards-based grading, a district may find that one gradebook product may

support their efforts more than another.

Standards Gradebook

The Standards Gradebook organizes grade information under Subjects, Skills, and Events (Assignments).

Teachers can choose whether to add Events or simply click on the Skill header and grade each Skill individually. When an Event is added, it can be attached to multiple Skills, in which case you will see the

same assignment nested under each Skill it is attached too, as illustrated below. Skill, Subject, and Term

Grade calculations are all based on the configured calculation options.


Gradebook Calculation Options: Standards Gradebook Using a Pure Rubric Scale for Academic Standards WS\EA\GB\SE\PS\CF\VS

If standards are scored using a 4 or 5-point scale rather than assigning points to each standard, a Pure Rubric Scale can be set up. In the example below, each time a teacher attaches an academic standard to an assignment, 4 points would be the maximum a teacher could score for each standard. See screen shot on Page 7 for an example, where the Max Score column is 4.00.

Non-calculating option available

Grades can be calculated based on points or weighted percentages.

Trend Grade option yields a trend that best represents how the student is progressing toward a

standard and does not calculate grades based on average scores, based on Marzano’s Power Law.

Weighted Trend Grade option allows teachers to attach a weight to events in the gradebook and still yield a trend grade, based on the Weighted Least Squares Regression formula.

Both letter (A, B, C, D, F) and numeric (4, 3, 2, 1) grade marks can be used.

Note: Percentages are used for all grade calculations but are hidden in Standards Gradebooks that use Trend Grading. Teachers and Family/Student Access users will only see Grade Marks.


There is an Entity Configuration option, Do Not Display Trend Grades for the Current Grading Period in

Family Access, Student Access, and/or Gradebook Reports. Additionally, an entity can opt to not display

Trend Grades until a specific date, or after a certain number of assignments have been entered, among

other options.


Attaching and Scoring Academic Standards Standards Gradebook can be configured so that teachers may enter Points or Grade Marks for Assignments or Events. Standards can be scored individually or all at once.

Standards Gradebook Teachers can attach an Event to multiple Skills in Standards Gradebook. One Skill must be selected at the

top of the Event Maintenance screen, and additional Skills can be attached by checking the box next to the

appropriate skills under Skill Options. If a teacher wishes to use points to score the event instead of Grade

Marks, the Use Points to Score this Event box must be checked.













Standards Based Report Card Basic Report Card Setup Configuration WS/OF/GR/RC/Setup/CF/SB/RP Prior to the 1st grading period, verifying the Report Card Setup is important. The Page Header and Page Footer has options of what will be displayed plus a Logo can be added if desired. You can choose to have Attendance included or excluded on the Standards Based Report Card.


With the Basic Report Card each entity has option to Print a Grade Mark Legend, change Font and various printing options including printing Test Scores.


Standards Based Report Card Configuration There are various locations Standards Based Report Cards can be run from. The teachers may run Report Cards from within their Gradebooks. Use the Reports drop down and choose Standards Based Report Card, then either Add a new template or Edit an existing template.

Then choose the term you wish to print for, whether you want to print for First Family only or additional Families and other options available. Click Save on the Template and Print on the Template List Screen. The Report Cards can be printed for a Single Class or for all of the Students Classes.


Report Cards in Student Management WS/OF/GR/RC/RE/SB/BR Office Personnel can also print Report Cards. These can be printed by Range, by Individual or by Teacher. The grading period much be chosen, and the option for 1st Family or additional families is available also. There is also Sort By available using this option.
