Term 2 Week 4 20 May 2020

Principal’s Report

Dear Parents and Carers, Return to School

Our staggered return to school has been continuing this week. Thank you to parents for your ongoing support

over this time in supervising your children at home wherever possible, other than on their allocated days at school.

As you may have heard in the media this week, students will be returning to full-time attendance from next

Monday 25 May. This will mean normal hours of attendance, five days per week for all year levels K-6. Please

keep in mind that, despite the return to full attendance, there will be ongoing measures and precautions. This

means we will not be able to hold assemblies, events, extra-curricular activities or excursions at this stage. The

Department of Education has provided an increased cleaning allocation, as well as supplies to promote good

hygiene practices.

I would like to acknowledge the amazing work of our staff over the last couple of months in planning and

implementing quality remote learning activities and using new platforms to connect with and provide feedback to

our students. It is a pleasure to be part of such a collaborative, dedicated team of people who step up to meet

challenges.

Keeping our School Community Safe

With increased numbers on our school site each day with the full return of students next week, we are seeking

the support of all parents and carers in promoting the health of all members of our school community:

- Please do not send your child to school on any day they are unwell, even if they only have mild symptoms

of illness

- We request that parents / carers please minimise visits to the school site and use social distancing

practices if you do need to be on site. Please do not enter the school site at all if you are unwell.

- Consider using the drop-off / pick-up zone rather than entering the school site in the mornings and

afternoons

- Please communicate with staff via email / telephone wherever possible.

It is important we continue to observe practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and reduce close contact

wherever possible. Thank you for your cooperation.

Student reports

Processes for preparation of our Semester 1 student reports have commenced. These will be distributed as per

usual in the last week of Term 2. Because students have completed their learning through a combination of face-

to-face lessons and remote learning programs this semester, our report format is a modified version of our

school’s usual format. This modified format is aligned with Department of Education requirements for Semester

1 reporting.

Invoices

We have had a number of enquiries from parents / carers regarding wanting to check what outstanding amounts

they have on school invoices. As such, today our office staff are emailing these invoices such that all families

have this information. If your financial circumstances have changed and you need to make arrangements for a

payment plan, please contact me directly. In light of excursions and activities not being able to proceed this term,

there are obviously minimal new costs on invoices.

Uniforms Term 2

Students should now be wearing full winter school uniform on days they are attending school. Kate in our Uniform

Shop has been working hard to pack and deliver online orders and appointments can be booked if items are

needing to be tried on. The students who are wearing their full school uniform look great!

Positive Behaviour for Learning

During this fortnight all classes are learning about expectations for after school and how our three values relate

to our bus lines, pick-up waiting area and departing school in the afternoons.

Striver Badges

Congratulations to the following students who are being presented with a Striver badge this week:

Red badge – Mia K, Lachlan M, Patrick O, Megan S

Green badge – Haile M, Kirby M, Summer W, Hailey W

Yellow badge – Joanna C, Oliver P

P & C News

Last Monday evening we held our first Zoom P&C meeting to great success. Over the COVID “break” our P&C

has been working to coordinate our community building grant allocation of $35000 which will be put towards our

top oval resurfacing project. Our P&C has agreed an additional $15000 of funds from our account towards this

project, despite fundraising efforts this year being hampered by government lockdowns. Earlier this year we put

out a call for donations to our fundraising account in lieu of participation at fundraising events. If you would like

to make a contribution, please feel free to do so as it is unlikely that fundraising events will be held this year.

Name: Normanhurst Public School PC Ref: FR and {Child SURNAME}

BSB: 032 084

Our committee is calling for volunteers to form a sub-committee to coordinate a Normanhurst Public School

Cookbook to be published later this year. We invite all families to please begin to submit your favourite family

recipe to be included in this book to [email protected].

If you are interested in being a part of this project, please be in touch with me, [email protected]

Uniform Shop News

Last week was a very busy week for the Uniform Shop as we worked hard to get your orders processed as quickly

as possible. Thank you to everyone who made an appointment for Friday for sticking to your allotted time,

enabling us to adhere to social distancing measures in the shop.

We will continue to operate by appointment only until further notice. Appointments are available for those

wishing to try uniforms for size, or to access the second-hand clothing pool. To book an appointment, please

send an email to [email protected].

If you already know the size and items you require, please send us an email with your completed order form and

proof of payment. The order form can be found here: http://www.npspandc.com/uniform-shop/. You will be

advised when the order is available to collect from the office. At this stage, delivery to the classroom is not

available.

We are still accepting donations to our second-hand clothing pool. Please leave your items at the school office.

We ask that all donations are in good condition, freshly washed and please remove/scrub through any names.

We are unable to accept items that are not school uniform. Your donation not only helps the school community,

it also helps to keep clothing out of landfill and reduces the consumption of new items. Thank you.

Returns Policy

If you are unsure of size or the item required, we ask that wherever possible you make an appointment to try

before you buy. We appreciate that sometimes the wrong size will be purchased and we are happy to exchange

for another size.

On the rare occasion that an item just isn’t suitable for your child, we can issue a store credit that you can use

against future purchases. Unfortunately we are unable to provide refunds.

In order for a return or exchange to be accepted, the items must be returned within 28 days and be unworn,

unwashed and in the original wrapping with all tags still attached. We ask that you let the shop know (by

email) that you intend to exchange/return the item and provide date of purchase.

Unfortunately we cannot accept any return or exchange of hats, or socks and stockings (unless unopened) due

to hygiene reasons.

Faulty/defective items can be returned anytime within the warranty period (usually 12months) and will be returned

to the manufacturer for repair.

We thank you for your understanding.
