Three awards programs have been designed for the 2006 Nobel Biocare World Tour™ conference.The accepted entries will be displayed at the conference venue so you can view them throughoutthe meeting. Take the opportunity to check out the amazing results of the Creative Circle awards,the outstanding clinical documentation of the C&B&I™ award competition and the fantasticresearch reports from the poster programs.

Poster Program

For the poster program individuals submit a structured abstract and report of a basic or appliedresearch project, or a detailed explanation of a clinical technique or technology used in patienttherapy. The accepted entries are displayed on large-scale posters where the findings are pre-sented together with high quality photos documenting the project.

C&B&I™ awards

The C&B&I™ competition is divided into three different categories of clinicians. The participantshave submitted documentation of the rehabilitation of a patient using treatment proceduresinvolving crowns and bridges and implants with Nobel Biocare products. The report can besupported by up to eight digital photographs of the therapy.

Creative Circle awards

The Creative Circle competition is designed to demonstrate beauty and esthetics in dentalceramics. Individuals have submitted documentations of their best ceramic rehabilitation usingthe NobelRondo™ veneering porcelain. The patient summary includes a description of thetreatment performed together with up to twelve digital photographs of the restorations.

Award ceremony

The award ceremony honoring the most outstanding entries is held on Saturday afternoon inthe Congress Center. Don’t miss the chance to see if the judges shared your views on thedisplayed posters and award entries.

DR. BODO HOFFMEISTER

Prof. Dr. Dr. BodoHoffmeister graduated in1968. He did his medicaland dental Education at theDental School, MedicalSchool Christian-Albrecht-

University Kiel where he received his D.D.S in1975 and his M.D. in 1977. In 1982 he becameSpecialist in Maxillofacial Surgery and in 1986Specialist in Facial Plastic Surgery in theDepartment for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery,University Hospital, Christian-Albrechts-UniversityKiel. In 1989 Prof. Hoffmeister became Deputychairman and in 1992 Associated Professor ofthe Department for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery,University Hospital, Christian-Albrechts-UniversityKiel. Since 1994 he is Chairman of the Departmentof Maxillofacial Surgery and Facial Plastic Surgery,University Hospital, Charité Campus BenjaminFranklin Berlin. Prof. Hoffmeister’s specialties are: treatment offacial deformaties, orthognathic surgery, plasticand reconstructive surgery and implantology.

MR. ERNST A. HEGENBARTH

Mr. Hegenbarth receivedhis master dental technolo-gist degree followingextensive experience as adental technician and

ceramist in Germany. He is the owner of ZenLine Dental, an advanced dental laboratory withan attached post-graduate teaching institutefocusing on Premium dental restorations for inter-national customers. Zen Line Dental is also a con-sultancy for marketing and development of ceram-ic products, education and publishing. He is thedeveloper of the Creative Color System and theconcept for the new NobelRondo™ – Creative Circleceramics for Alumina and Zirconia. As a memberof the European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and

the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, hehas lectured at numerous international meetingsand conducts seminars for postgraduate studentsand ceramists around the world. He also serves onthe editorial boards of several journals and haspublished a textbook with Quintessence. CreativeCeramic Color: A Practical System, as well as arti-cles in several dental journals on esthetics, dentalimplants, dental ceramics and CAD/CAMTechnology.

Siegmund Döttelmayer

studied general medicine in

Graz, Austria, and received

his PhD degree in 1982. He

joined the University

Hospital in Graz and got an education in general

surgery and accident surgery. 1988 he joined

once more the University of Graz for studying

dentistry and received his degree in 1990. He

opened his own office in Bad Aussee in 1990,

with a early specialization in implant surgery.

2002 he became the head of the department of

Implantology at the Emco Privatklinik in Bad

Dürrnberg. Since many years he active in educa-

tion and OP-curses for Nobel Biocare and was

involved at the pre-lunch study for NobelGuide™.

DR. CHRISTIAN FOITZIK

Dr. Christian Foitzik studieddentistry and medicine atthe Johannes GutenbergUniversity, Mainz andobtained his doctorate withthe title Dr. med. dent. in

1975 and Dr. med. in 1977. In 1975, also inMainz, he started his studies in anthropologyspecializing in biology and completed them in1990 at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe Universityin Frankfurt/ Main, graduating to Dr. phil. nat.After his specialist training as in oral and facial sur-gery at the University Hospital of Mainz in 1980,he set up his own practice as an oral and facialsurgeon in Darmstadt. He specializes in boneregeneration, implantology and emergency ther-apy. Dr. Christian Foitzik is also a member of scientific associations such as the DGMKG, theFederal Association of Physicians for Oral andFacial Surgery, the DGI and the DGP etc.

DR. ROLAND GLAUSER

Roland Glauser is a graduateof the University of Zürich.Since 1997 Dr. Glauser isassistant professor and seniorlecturer at the Departmentfor Fixed Prosthodontics

and Dental Materials, University of Zürich. Dr.Glauser is president of the scientific board of theSwiss Society of Oral Implantology SSOI and anactive member of the European Association forOsseointegration EAO. He has published numerousarticles and text book chapters on the subject ofrestorative dentistry and osseointegrated implants.He lectured extensively throughout Europe andreceived an Academy Award for his presentationat the annual AO meeting in Los Angeles in 1999.

Dr. Dario Adolfi received his DDS degree from theUniversity of São Paulo in1979. Director of CMceramics – InternationalCeramic Training Center –

Lisbon. Lecturer, practical courses and hands ondemonstration in South America, Europe, UnitedStates, Australia and Asia. Technical Advisor forCeramic’s Company and private clinic in SãoPaulo – Brazil. Author of book «Natural Esthetics»,in Portuguese, English, Spanish and Russian,published by Quintessence International.

DR. NITZAN BICHACHO

Dr. Nitzan Bichacho is pro-fessor of prosthodonticsand head of the Ronald E.Goldstein Center forAesthetic Dentistry,Department of Oral

Rehabilitation at the Hadassah Medical Campus,Faculty of Dental Medicine, Hebrew University,Jerusalem, the institution from which he gradu-ated in 1984. He is Past President and an activemember of the prestigious European Academy ofEsthetic Dentistry (EAED), and serves as the sci-entific editor for the professional journal PracticalProcedures & Aesthetic Dentistry. He is the recip-ient of numerous awards conferred by interna-tional institutions for his outstanding professionalachievements and contribution to esthetic den-tistry around the globe. Roman M. Cibirka, DDS, MS,received his DDS from theUniversity of Detroit-Mercyin 1988 and Master’s degreein Prosthodontics from theUniversity of Michigan in

1990. Dr. Cibirka maintained a practice limitedto prosthodontics in Michigan and was a facultymember at both the Universities of Michigan andDetroit Schools of Dentistry until 1996. At thattime he joined the faculty at the Medical Collegeof Georgia where he serves as the Associate VicePresident for Academic Affairs for the entire insti-tution and is a tenured Associate Professor in theDepartment of Oral Rehabilitation. Dr. Cibirkamaintains an active intramural clinical practice.His research interests include dental implants, bio-compatibility of dental materials and the recon-struction of complex patients. He is a Fellow inthe Academy of Prosthodontics and a memberof the American College of Prosthodontics,American Dental Association, Omicron KappaUpsilon and is Past-President of the AmericanCollege of Prosthodontics Georgia Chapter. Hehas actively participated on numerous craniofacialreconstruction, forensic and disaster teams inMichigan and Georgia. He has lectured nationallyand internationally on the subjects of dentalimplants, forensics, removable partial denturesand biocompatibility.

DR. MICK DRAGOO

Dr. Mick Dragoo has beenactively involved in teach-ing, clinical and histologicalresearch, and in privatepractice in periodontologyand restorative dentistry.

He has lectured extensively for over 25 years inthe United States, Canada, Europe, UnitedKingdom, South Africa and Australia. He haspublished over 40 original articles in DentalJournals as well as published several booksincluding The Regeneration of the PeriodontalAttachment in Humans and Handbook for Scalingand Root Planing with Power Driven Instruments.His research on ultrasonic instruments for subgingi-val instrumentation and glass ionomer compositesclearly define the future for the preservation ofthe dentition. His most recent research on guidedtissue regeneration and guided bone regenerationwill establish new standards of care when appliedto periodontal regeneration and implantology.The results of his research will revolutionize thedelivery of dental services.

DR. BERNHARD DRÜKE

Dr. Bernhard Drüke, born1951, studied dental medi-cine at the WestfälischeWilhelms University, inMünster and acquired theadditional designation, “oral

surgery”, in 1985 after receiving further trainingin oral surgery at the dentosurgical hospitals inBremen and Osnabrück. In 1986, Dr. BernhardDrüke set up his own practice in Münster concen-trating mainly on oral surgery and implantology.Beside the scientific work in prosthetics and sur-gery, he conducts various seminars and practicalcourses and also published a book in 2004(Spitta Verlag).

DR. ANNETTE FELDERHOFF

Dr. Annette Felderhoff, born 1969, studied dentalmedicine at Ruprecht-KarlsUniversity Heidelberg aswell as at the University ofRegensburg and obtained

Since1998, he has been working on an independentbasis with the company which he founded, DentalX GmbH, a laboratory specializing in implantol-ogy, anaplastology and functional and aestheticreconstructions, in Munich. Dr. Stefan Hümmeke, born 1972, studied dentalmedicine at WestfälischeWilhelms UniversityMünster and obtained hisdoctorial title as Dr. med.

From2001, Dr. Stefan Hümmeke was working in theDepartment for Oral and Facial Surgery at theOsnabrück Clinical Center and since January2004, as a senior physician of the ImplantologyCenter of the Clinical Center. MR. OLAF VAN IPEREN

Dipl. ZT Olaf van Iperencompleted his dental tech-nician studies in theNetherlands and has beenworking as a qualified den-tal technician since 1984.

Dr. Marko Knauf, born1975, studied dental medi-cine at the Georg AugustUniversity Göttingen andacquired his doctorate withthe title Dr. med. dent in

DR. GEORG-H. NENTWIG

Professor Dr. Georg-H.Nentwig started as an assis-tant doctor at the clinic fororal and maxillofacial surgeryat the LMU Munich in 1979.In 1982 he got his qualifica-

tion as an oral surgeon and finished his PhD-Thesisin 1986. In 1988 he accepted a position as a C2professor at the clinic for oral and maxillofacialsurgery in Munich and since 1991 has been direc-tor of the clinic for dental surgery of the ZZMKat the University Frankfurt am Main, which wasrenamed to clinic for dental surgery and implantdentistry in 2002. DR. MANFRED NILIUS

Dr. Manfred Nilius studiedmedicine and dental medi-cine and received his licenseto practice medicine in 1996(medicine) and 1999 (den-tal medicine). After working

DR. ERIC ROMPEN

Dr. Eric Rompen is Professorand Head of the Depart-ment of Periodontology/Dental Surgery at the Uni-versity of Liège in Belgium.He is also responsible for

the post-graduate program in Periodontology aswell as the post-graduate program in Implant-ology. Dr. Rompen received his Degree in DentalScience in 1986, and his Post-graduate degree in Oral Rehabilitation in 1989. He completed hisDoctorate in Dental Medicine in1991. His teach-ing responsibilities at the University of Liègeinclude Periodontology, Dental Surgery andImplant Surgery. His research interests includeepidemiology and systemic impact of periodon-tal diseases, surgical management of tissue defi-ciencies, mechanisms of bone regeneration andsoft and hard tissue integration of dental implants,as well as the development of biomaterials fortissue augmentation. He served as the Presidentof the Belgian Society of Periodontology from2001–2004.

MR. STEFAN SCHERG

Mr. Stefan Scherg studieddental medicine at theBayerische Julius-MaximiliansUniversity Würzburg. From1995 to 1997, he worked asa dental assistant at Retzbach

and Thüngen and took over a practice in Thüngenin 1997. He moved the practice to Karlstadt in2002. His work is mainly concentrated on peri-odontology, implantology, endodontology, andaesthetic dentistry with several publications andlectures. Dr. André Schmitz, born1958, completed his train-ing as a dental technician in the dental laboratory ofCremer at Cologne andworked there as a dental

technician until the start of his dental medicinestudies at Cologne University. In 1992, he obtainedhis doctorate with the title Dr. med. dent. at thesame university. From 1990 to 1992, he was onthe scientific staff in the Materials TechnologyLaboratory at Cologne University. In 1992, he setup his own practice in Hürth mainly concentratingon prosthetics, aesthetic oral and dental medicine,mucogingival surgery, implant surgery and laserZMK. In 1999, he set up ImplaVision GmbH (insti-tute for aesthetic and implant-supported artificialdentures). In 2000, Dr. André Schmitz acquiredthe area designation Implantology with his workconcentrating mainly on implantology and quali-fied as a DGZI implantology specialist in 2003. Heis currently attending further education to obtainhis Master of Science in oral surgery. Among otherthings, he is a member of the BDIZ, the DGZI andChairman of the Working Group Implantology ofthe dental profession in Hürth.

DR. PETER M. SCHÜPBACH

Peter Schüpbach studiednatural sciences at theFederal Technical HighSchool of Switzerland and received his PhDdegree in 1979. He joined

the Dental Institute of the University Zurich in1981 and was head of a histological researchteam. He had combined teaching and researchwhile in Zurich. He received the PD for «OralBiology and Pathophysiology» from the Facultyof Medicine of the University Zurich in 1996. Heis member of several international organizationsand author of over 50 publications in the fields

of implantology, tissue regeneration and oralmicrobiology. He is an international lecturer inimplantology. Today he runs his own servicecenter for microscopic analysis.

DR. TORSTEN SIEPENKOTHEN

Dr. Torsten Siepenkothen,born 1967, studied dentistryat Johann-Wolfgang-GoetheUniversity in Frankfurt/Mainand obtained his doctoratein 1994 with the title Dr.

med. dent. From 1993 to 1995, he first workedas a dental assistant and was then employed as a dentist in an oral-surgical practice in Frankfurt.In 1995, he set up his own practice at Kelkheimim Taunus and has since then been working inimplantology. In 1997, he set up the WorkingGroup for Periodontology and Implantology withDr. Mick Dragoo. Apart from further training forcertification with an emphasis on implantology(LZK Baden-Württemberg 2002 and LZK Hessen2003), he qualified in 2003 for the specialismperiodontology and as an EDA specialist of peri-odontology in the same year. Dr. Torsten Siepenkothen is, among other things,a member of the DGZMK and the DGP.

DR. RUUD SIPS

Mr. Sips, after a technicaleducation at the M.T.S.Electronics of Breda, stu-died as a dental technicianat the I.V.T. of Utrecht.During this time he opened

his own dental laboratory, TandtechnischLaboratorium Sips BV, in 1977 in Oosterhout.Today, that laboratory employs 20 dental techni-cians, and services other dental laboratories inBelgium and The Netherlands, in addition to itsreferring dentists. Tandtechnisch LaboratoriumSips BV, in an effort to enhance service, hasobtained a NEN-EN0ISO-9001 certificate, result-ing in the development of a software system, Q-Bridge, a workflow tool that includes administra-tion, planning, billing and management informa-tion. Mr. Sips has focused many of his efforts inthe area of gnathology and CAD/ CAM proce-dures and has presented on these subjects atnumerous dental conferences around the world.

DR. MILOS TOMIC

Dr. med. dent. Milos Tomic,born in 1966, studied den-tal medicine at the Universityof Zurich and obtained hisdoctorate with the title Dr.med. dent in 1996. In the

year 1993, he completed the “Pindborg Courseof Oral Pathology” at the University ofCopenhagen with diploma. From 1992 to 1993,he was employed as assistant doctor for oral sur-gery at the University of Zurich. He completed aspecial training as assistant dentist in maxillofa-cial traumatology and jaw surgery in 1994. Afterworking as resident from 1994 to 2000 inSwitzerland, Dr. Tomic was designated clinicalhead of department and research coordinator forthe Clinic for Dental Prosthetics at the UniversityMedical Center Freiburg in 2000. Since the

beginning of 2006, he is the responsible directorof the Dental Center at the private hospital“LACLINIC” in Montreux, Switzerland.

DR. ERIC VAN DOOREN

Dr. Eric Van Dooren attendedthe Katholieke UniversiteitLeuven, Belgium, where hereceived his degree in den-tistry in 1982. After gradu-ating he opened a private

practice in Antwerp, Belgium, which is limited toperiodontics, fixed prosthodontics, and implants.Currently Dr. Van Dooren is a active member ofthe European Academy of Esthetic Dentistry. DR. PETER S. WÖHRLE

Dr. Peter S. Wöhrle received his DMD degree«cum laude» and a Masterof Medical Sciences in OralBiology from the HarvardSchool of Dental Medicine

(1988). In addition, Dr. Wöhrle completed theAdvanced Education Program in Prosthodonticsand the Advanced Education Program in ImplantDentistry at Harvard, and a four-year certified den-tal technician program in Switzerland. While atHarvard, he worked with his mentor, Dr. PaulSchnitman, on the groundbreaking concept ofimmediate loading of Branemark implants. Oncein private practice in Newport Beach, California,Dr. Wöhrle applied these principles to the conceptof immediate tooth replacement in the aestheticzone. More recently, Dr. Wöhrle developed theNobelPerfect® scalloped margin implant system.Furthermore, Dr. Wöhrle conceived the digitalwide-screen format that many lecturers haveadopted worldwide. assistant at the Hospital for Dental Prosthetics andMaterials Technology of the Rhine-WestphalianTechnical University in Aachen and has been asenior physician of this department since 1996.n2000, he was nominated as specialist with quali-fied education by the „Deutsche Gesellschaft fürProthetik und Werkstoffkunde“ (German Societyof Prosthodontics and Dental Materials). ZTM Susann Zülow, born1963, completed her trainingas a dental technician andobtained her diploma inHamburg in 1996. Since1997, she has been working

Dr. Brien R. Lang receivedhis DDS degree from theUniversity of Michigan,School of Dentistry in 1961and Master of Science inProsthodontics in 1965. He

joined the Michigan faculty in 1965, and wasappointed Chair of Prosthodontics in 1987. Hehas combined teaching, research and private prac-tice while at Michigan. DR. JONATHAN L. FERENCZ

Dr. Jonathan Ferencz graduated from RensselaerPolytechnic Institute in 1967and New York UniversityCollege of Dentistry in 1971.He joined the faculty at NYU

in 1972 where he has taught pre-clinical, under-graduate clinical and post-doctoral prosthodontics.In 1990, Dr. Ferencz became Clinical Professor ofPost-Graduate Prosthodontics and was certified bythe American Board of Prosthodontics in 1998.Active in dental organizations for many years, Dr.Ferencz became a Fellow of the Greater New YorkAcademy of Prosthodontics in 1984 and served asits President in 1995. He became a Fellow of theNortheastern Gnathological Society in 1988 andits President in 1995 and 1996. He has served inmany leadership positions in the American Collegeof Prosthodontists and was its President in 2003.In addition, Dr. Ferencz is a Fellow of the Academyof Prosthodontics, New York Academy of Dentistryand a member of the American Academy ofRestorative Dentistry and the American Academy ofFixed Prosthodontics. In addition to private practiceand part-time teaching at NYU, Dr. Ferencz hasbeen very active in continuing dental education,having given over 150 courses and programsthroughout the United States and several othercountries.

Dr. Parel is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, theAmerican and InternationalCollege of Dentists, and is amember of many profession-

al organizations, including the American DentalAssociation, the Academy of Prosthodontics, andthe American College of Prosthodontics. His litera-ture contributions include over 45 scientific articlesas principal author, and multiple textbook contri-butions. He was editor and co-author of Estheticsand Osseointegration, a landmark reference sourcefor implant dentistry. He authored his second book,The SmiLine System in 1991, and recently com-pleted a third book, Esthetic Implant Restorations.He is past president of both the American Academyof Maxillofacial Prosthetics and the Academy ofOsseointegration. Dr. Parel is currently a profes-sor at Baylor College of Dentistry – Texas A&MUniversity System Health Science Center anddirector of the Center of Oral MaxillofacialProsthodontics in the Department of Oral andMaxillofacial Surgery/ Pharmacology.

DR. JÖRG R. STRUB

Prof. Dr. J. R. Strub, born in1948, received his DDS, Dr. Med. Dent., and PhDdegrees from the Universityof Zurich, Switzerland. Hewas a Visiting Professor of

Biomaterials at Louisiana State University and wasformerly Associate Professor and co-director ofthe Graduate Program in Periodontal Prostheticsat the University of Zurich. Mr. Hegenbarth receivedhis master dental technolo-gist degree following exten-sive experience as a dentaltechnician and ceramist inGermany. He is the owner

of Zen Line Dental, an advanced dental laborato-ry with an attached post-graduate teaching insti-tute focusing on Premium dental restorations forinternational customers. Zen Line Dental is also aconsultancy for marketing and development ofceramic products, education and publishing. Dr. Carol A. Lefebvrereceived her DDS in 1983and MS in Prosthodonticsin 1986 from the Universityof Michigan. Dr. Lefebvre isa Professor in the Depart-

ments of Oral Rehabilitation and Oral Biology atthe Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistryand the School of Graduate Studies and isSection Director of Removable Prosthodontics inthe Department of Oral Rehabilitation. She is arecipient of the School of Dentistries Excellencein Teaching and Outstanding Faculty Awards. Dr.Lefebvre is a Diplomate of the American Boardof Prosthodontics, a Fellow in the Academy ofProsthodontics and the American College ofProsthodontists, and a member of the AmericanDental Education Association, American Associationof Dental Research and the InternationalAssociation of Dental Research. She is the Editorof The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. Dr. Lefebvrewas recently selected as a 2005–2006 fellow inthe ELAM (Executive Leadership in AcademicMedicine) program.

DR. REGINA MERICSKE-STERN

Regina Mericske-Stern iscurrently the Director andChairman of the Departmentof Prosthodontics, Universityof Bern. She completed hergraduate training inRestorative Dentistry and in

Prosthodontics in Bern and Toronto, and in OralSurgery in Basle. She received her Ph.D in Bern.She is still a frequent guest professor of theUniversity of Toronto. She is a Specialist inProsthodontics (SSRD) and in Implantology (SGI)and frequently lectures at international meetingson these topics.

Her teaching obligations are tooth- and implant-supported prostheses and geriatric dentistry. Thestudents elected her «Teacher of the Year». Sheis a member of various national and internationalsocieties, board member and president elect ofthe International College of Prosthodontics (ICP)the President of the Scientific Committee of theSwiss Society for Reconstructive Dentistry (SSRD)and President Elect of the Swiss Society of OralImplantology (SSOI). Her activities, both in clini-cal practice and clinical research, cover the fieldof oral implantology/implant prosthodontics andgeriatric dentistry. These are represented in vari-ous publications, abstracts and book chapters.

DR. PETER K. MOY

Dr. Moy received his dentaldegree from the Universityof Pittsburgh, a certificate inGeneral Practice Residencyfrom Queen’s Medical Centerin Honolulu, Hawaii and his

certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery fromUCLA Hospital and Medical Center .He presentlylimits his practice to Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeryfocusing primarily in the areas of Osseointegrateddental implants and the reconstruction of theseverely atrophic ridges. He is currently on staff inthe departments of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeryas well as Hospital Dentistry at UCLA. He is alsothe Co-director of the UCLA Dental Implant Center.Dr.Moy has written numerous articles related toImplant Dentistry and Osseointegration, specifically,on bone grafting and augmentation proceduresfor the atrophic ridges. He has lectured nationallyand internationally, most recently at the 98thAnnual Meeting of the American Association ofOral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Professor Massimo Simion is Chairman of the Department ofPeriodontology andImplant Restoration at the Dental School of the

University of Milan. He is a founder of the ItalianSociety of Osseontegration and one of the firstexperts in implant surgery in Italy. Actually, he isan Active Member and Vice-President of the ItalianSociety of Periodontology (SidP) for the years2003– 2005. He is Member of the Board of theEuropean Association for Osseointegration (EAO)since 1998 and he has been President of the sameAssociation from the years 2001 to 2003.
