The pace in the final quarter was much faster as Whitley County scored with ease while Harlan County kept the game close behind the play of Brooklyn Massingill, Miranda Davenport and Kaitlyn Stittums.
However, Whitley County responded with points by Hallie Jones, Kandace Craig, Bethany Powers along with Smith and Anderson.
The win was Whitley County fourth in a row and
eighth of their last nine games.
The Lady Colonels will be at Corbin Friday night in a game that could decide the district’s number one seed. They will continue their four-game road trip to Middlesboro and North Laurel next week.

The Corbin Lady Redhounds lost a heart breaker to the Knox Central Lady Panthers, 61-60 in overtime at Gilliam Gym Saturday night.
Corbin (13-8) fell behind in the first quar-ter as the Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Redhounds 18-14. However, Corbin, led by Kayla and Miranda Wilson, made up some ground in the second quarter by outscoring the
Lady Panthers, 15-13 and closed the gap at the half to 31-29.
The third quarter saw the Lady Redhounds take control of the game with their defense as they held Knox Central to seven points while tossing in 12 points. Corbin led at the end of three quarters, 41-38.
Knox Central (15-7) was able to come back and force the overtime in the fourth quarter behind the play and scoring of Cassi Shippy, Elizabeth Barrett and Melanie Gregory.
Corbin had several chances to win the
game in regulation, but couldn’t put the game away.
The extra period was nip and tuck, but it was Knox Central coming away with the one-point win, 61-60.
Miranda Wilson topped all the scorers to finish the game with 19 points. Kayla Wilson added 11 points. Sarah Ashley finished in double figures with 11 points.
Corbin rolled over the Lynn Camp Lady Wildcats Friday night, 55-34 as ten Lady Redhounds got in the scorebook. Miranda
Wilson led the way with 17 points.
