2014

It is hard to believe that 2014 is half over and fall is coming . This has been an extremely busy and productive year for NNA . So much has already been accomplished with many exciting projects in the near future . I am truly amazed at what NNA has accomplished in advancing nursing and patient care in the State of Nevada . As you read through the following pages, articles and reports, please remember that all of this has been accomplished by volunteers giving their time to support nursinginNevada.Iamveryhonoredtobeworkingwithsuchan outstanding group of professionals .

Nurses Day at the Legislature (NDAL) 2015 will be coming in February 2015 in conjunction with the State of Nevada 2015 Legislative Session . In 2013, NNA made a strong showing inCarsonCityandwearelookingforwardtoanevenlargerattendance next spring . It is crucial for nurses to play a pivotal role in the changing healthcare policy platform . Please plan on attending or contacting NNA to become involved in the legislative process .

TheHorizontalViolenceandHealthyNurseinitiativesandavarietyofothereducationalCEUprogramsareinfullforwardmotion.NNAhasalsolaunchedanonlineeducationandconferencingplatformthatwillincreasetheaccesstoCEUs,webinars, andotherNNA programs . Additionally this platform includes a video conferencing system that will allow for greater member communication and involvement . NNA is establishing a Practice Committee that will be focusing on issues specifically related to nursing practice in Nevada such as the staffing legislation from 2013 .

NNA is growing and becoming even more active in Nevada and needs your help . Organizationscanonlybesuccessfulwhenmembersareinvolved.Networking, education, advocacy, and practice are all part of what we do as nurses and being part of a professional organization is a great way to accomplish a great deal .

I have been a Registered Nurse for over forty years . During this time,Ihaveseennursingasaprofessionmaketremendousstrides in education, practice, and political advocacy . Much of this progress is because of the organizing of nursing through the American Nurses Association and the individual state nursing associations, including Nevada Nurses Association .

Whennursescometogetherforacommongoal–ourpatients–we are a very powerful group . We are voted the most respected profession year after year by the public . As a profession, we have always been focused on what is best for the individuals for whom we provide care, in a variety of settings .
