CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR MESSAGE BY LIMPOPO PREMIER

CHUPU STANLEY MATHABATHAThe Festive Season is upon us again. This age old tradition also marks the end of the year and the beginning of a new one.

As a provincial government, we wish all those who will be travelling to different destinations, and those who will be coming to Limpopo a safe jour-ney. All our roads have been upgraded to cope with traffic volumes, but safety still remains with individuals. Our po-lice and traffic officials will be out in force to ensure that all people are safe, either on the roads or wherever they will be.

I wish to welcome millions of Christian pilgrims to the Zion City of Moria and other Churches for a safe prayerful Christmas. Your prayers for the nation are most welcome.

Let us use this Christmas and New Year as a time of re-flection as a nation. We celebrate 20 years of democracy with much joy and hope. The New Year 2014 is a year of elections. Let us exercise our freedom and democracy responsibly.

Together we can still do more.Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !

BOODSKAP vAN POTGIETERSRUS DLU vOORSITTER, OCKERT SCHERMAN

Die jaar 2013 is so te sê ver-by.

Boere bly positief soos ek julle ken. Hou moed, dit is altyd te gou om tou op te gooi. Word deel van jou gemeenskap. Skakel in by die Landelike Veiligheidsforum.

Also in January more than 1000 Medupi workers marched from Section 7 in ÎOnverwacht to the Medupi site. The strikers were unhappy about the bonuses they received over Christmas. The strike turned violent and several vehicles were damaged.

Mokopane mayor, Thlalefi Mashemaite, ends up in hospital after a car accident in the Îearly morning hours one Sunday Morning. At the time it wasn’t clear what caused the ac-cident. The municipality simply confrimed that friends of the mayor took him to Voortrek-ker hospital and that he was later transferred to Polokwane. He didn’t sustain any major injuries.

In February the Carte Blanche team visited Lephalale to cover the strike action at ÎMedupi. The team were in the midst of violent protest action where several vehicles were burnt in Marapong.

APRILIn April is drie renosters by Zinyathi Î

Police thwart the plans of a gang of Îarmed robbers on their way to rob the Shell filling station in Mahwelereng. The five suspects from Seshego were caught by a specialist unit that has been on their trail for months.

The Vodocom Blue Bulls played Îagainst the Limpopo Bulls at the Mogol club in Lephalale. They won the match 110 – 0.

Hy praat sommer so tussen-in van verskeie goed tegelyk.

“Voel party keer vir my ek is klaar in die beloofde land elke keer as ek kamp,” sê Servaas.”

Eight people were arrested when Îthey vandalised shops belonging to foreign nationals in Marapong.

does Rhue in Marken teen ‘n wêreldrekord prys van R1,65-miljoen verkoop by die Oljaco vangkrale in Vaalwater.

SEPTEMBERIn September the news that Umbono Î

Captial hold mining rights to 2000 ha of land which borders Onverwacht has resi-dents worried about the prospect of having a coal mine on their “stoep”.

Mogalakwena municipal Îmanager, William Kekana returns to work after he has been illegally suspended three months earlier. Kekana’s return follows a council meeting where the majority of councillors voted to have him reinstated despite pressure from the mayor to keep him ‘suspended’. The week is marred by bogus arrests and intimidation, but Kekana holds his ground despite his office being burgled and all his computers being removed. A charge of breaking and entering is laid against the mayor.

NOVEMBERIn November thousands of Rands were stolen at ATMs in Lephalale Î

by ATM scammers. The public is warned to be vigilant at all times.
