Feeder cables are typically used formobile telecommunication applications, such as GSM, WCDMA (UMTS), TDMA,D-AMPS, PCN, CDMA and TETRA. Thefunction of the feeder cable is to transmitsignal power between the transmissionequipment and the antenna in allenvironmental conditions.
Low attenuation at high frequencies, uniform characteristic impedance andexcellent return loss as well as highmechanical strength and stability are themost important qualities of NK Cables’Ohmax® feeder cables.
The connectors supplied with our cablesprovide excellent electrical performanceand ensure waterproofness per IP 68.The corresponding tools are presentedon the following pages as well as in theAccessories section of this catalog.

HIGHLIGHTS OF NK JUMPERS
• Excellent return loss values and lowand stable intermodulation
• Waterproof per IP68 water immersiontesting specifications
• Test report with return loss and intermodulation measurements attached to each jumper
Stable electrical performance is ensuredby high quality Ohmax® superflexiblecable and special connector head design.
The design is based on three mainprinciples ensuring compliance with IP68water immersion testing:• 7-16 head sealing with O-rings• induction soldering of the inner and
outer conductors providing 360 degreesof contact and sealing
• enclosing the connection at the rear of the connector with injection molded plastic providing the external waterproof seal.
Additional protection is maintainedduring storage and transport bywatertight protective cap on each end.

The extraflexible RFE range can be usedfor indoor and rooftop applicationsthanks to the excellent bendingperformance. In some cases the RFErange can replace the use of jumpers.
The superflexible RFF cables are typicallyused as jumpers to connect the feedercable to the transmission equipment orto the antenna in mobiletelecommunication applications.
The connectors and corresponding toolsare presented on the following pages.

CONNECTORS
For feeder cables NK Cables offers lowintermodulation, “one-piece” connectors that feature two different solutions for providing primary weatherproofness: sealing compound and O-ring technology.• Sealing compound: Plast 2000 is
injected into the connector/cable junction during the connector installation to form a complete seal.
• O-ring: These connectors employ precision O-rings to provide the primary weatherproof sealing forthe cable/connector interface.(A secondary shrink sleeve is recommended.)
For superflexible RFF cables the sealingis done with a shrink sleeve. Theseconnectors utilize a heat activated shrinksleeve that has been coated with anadhesive on the inside, to provide theprimary weatherproof sealing for the connector. Technical details and part numbers are presented in the sectionsFeeder Cables and Superflexible Cables.
Following the instructions the cable/connector interface will meet IP 68.

SEALING COMPOUND PLAST 2000
CHARACTERISTICS
• Guarantees optimum corrosion protection of the outer conductor contact point between cable and connector.
• Ensures perfect sealing between connector and cable.
• Features a special bonding system which protects the copper from corrosion attack of any kind.
• Relieves mechanical stress in the contact point of outer cable conductorand connector, which is most important for RF-technology. Any forces affecting the cable are distributed along the whole length of the inlet sleeve up to the contact point.
Plast 2000 is supplied in tubes of 20 cm3
or 70 cm3. The 20 cm3 tube can bescrewed into a threaded hole into thecable inlet. The required quantity ofPlast 2000 is indicated in the relevantconnector assembly instructions.

Drums
45
The drums used for our cablesare made of wood.
On the following pages we presentthe drum types for different cablesas well as simplified instructionsfor the transportation.
46
DrumsWOODEN CABLE DRUMS
The drums are made of planed barklessboards. The standard drum sizes used fordifferent cable types are specified below.Special non-standard drums can besupplied on request. Also impregnationis available on request.
HANDLING AND TRANSPORT
Handling instructions are attached oneach drum. The reeling direction of thecable is indicated by an arrow. Fortransportation and storage the cable isprotected by using wooden (19 mm)lagging nailed on the outer rim of theflanges. Plastic cover is placed on the drumunder the cable and also over the outerlayer of the cable beneath the lagging.Cable ends are sealed with a shrinkableplastic tube.
For detailed instructions for the handling of drumsplease see our multi-lingual booklet “The right wayto transport and move drums” (in English, Spanish,Portuguese, French, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, andFinnish).
