/ Which of these lead ing cameras in theNizo range is right fo r you? When you decide on one of the t hreecameras, you have, in the main, chosen aparticular lens, or more precisely, aparticular telephoto capability. For example,if you plan to fi lm animals or similarsubjects, the Nizo S 800 camera is recom-mended. With its 80 mm zoom you havea high-performance lens with boundlessscope for creative work.

The Nizo S 560 camera has an above-average zoom also although not with thesame scope as the Nizo S 800 camera.Even so, ambitious filming is yours withthis camera. If you dont need picture-synchronizedsound recording and prefer hand shooting, the Nizo S 480 camera is the answer. Itsacceptance angle using the 48 mm telephotosetting is comparable to that of a 300 mmlens on a 35 mm still camera.

There are 73 focal length millimetersbetween the extreme wide-angle and tele-photo settings on the lens of the Nizo S 800camera. The Nizo S 560 has 49 mm andthe Nizo S 480 has 40 mm. Each focal lengthmillimeter provides a different pictureangle, giving fresh creative scope. Thesevarious focal lengths can be set easily andsmoothly by the automatic power zoom-controlled by push but tons on top of thecamera. And you can vary the speed of the

    Nizocameras S 800 S 560 and S 480 -basically similarbut with different lenses

zoom: press the buttons lightly for slowand firmly for fast. The power zoom on theNizo S 800 camera can be cut out, too and jumps i n focal length can be obtainedby a lever movement.

    7 mm Focal distance

Compare these pictures. Its a series madewith a 35 mm still camera having pictureangles roughly equivalent to the statedSuper 8 focal lengths. So the photographerhad to use extreme telephoto lenses toget them: 300 mm for the 48 mm Super 8focal length, 375 for 56 mm, and at least500 mm for 80 mm.

    The three cameras have reflex focusingn t h r o u g h t h e l e n sexposure systems

In the large bright viewfinder image youwill first note the spl it-image rangefinder ofthe focusing system. This device doesnot al low the eye any scope for estimatingwhat is sharp or otherwise, but thiscan be overcome by adjust ing the eyepiece- as you would adjust binoculars- usinga diopter compensating device( 5 diopters) to suit indiv idual eyesight. You can tell when the focus is correct, because the outlines of the subject appearunbroken in the rangefinder circle.

An accurate focusing system is essentialin a camera with such efficient lenses. When you operate the drive mechanism, you will notice a signal lamp above theviewfinder image. This shows whether thefilm is being transported, and also

the zoom section and the basic lens, diverts a small portion of the l ight to theviewfinder and, via a mirror system,to the CdS photoresistor of the automaticexposure system.

magnified almost 20 t imes. The viewfinderimage is bright, clear and aberration-free, corresponding with the picture seenlater on the project ion screen. Thesame conditions apply to exposure control, which measure the same amount of lightfor the automatic system and correspondingaperture settings, to that which reachesthe film.

On its way to the eyepiece, the lighttraverses a rangefinder lens and goesthrough a reversal arrangement. Both thisand the eyepiece system, mean that the

7 viewfinder image appears at the eyepiece

    au tomm an u al

indicates that the end of the film has beenreached.

Underneath the viewfinder image is a scalewhich indicates the lens aperture setautomatically by the exposure system. Thisillustration of the special purposeinstrument made by Gossen shows theinterior. Like a good quality watch itis ruby-mounted and it adjusts two bladesto give the correct aperture. When thecartridge is loaded into the camera, theexposure system is automatically setto suit the film type. The exposure controlfacility on Nizo cameras suits all f ilm types current ly available on the inter-national market. You can cut out theautomatic system and manually set to thedesired aperture on the scale. You willalso find a t iny pushbutton in the center ofthe knob to check the condition ofthe two 1.35 volt cells supplying the CdSexposure cont rol circuit.

he automatic time lapseystem of Nizocameras givesall settings for quick-actionfilming from 6 frames sec.to one frame min.Continuous running andautomatic exposure too

Lets take an example. If you expose onlyone frame per minute with your Nizo camera, you can project later for 3.3 seconds at18 frames a second and show whathappened during one hour. This facilityopens up a new world of creative filming.

A flower blossoms out in a few seconds. The sun plunges into the sea, producingcolour effects that change as quicklyas a firework display. You can filmbuildings and landscapes in which the sun, light and colour change rapidly to providewonderful scenic effects. The Nizo camerawill do all this for you automatically, even over a period of several days if youwish; camera observations like this overlong periods of time can be obtained using

an accessory called the Power Set. Inone bag are contained an accumulator, itsmaintenance kit and a lead for connectionto an external supply; the handle canbe folded back and the camera fixed to atripod.

    182454

An additional component called the MagicSwitch is supplied with the Power Setto enable you to set the quick-action range.A further facility is slow-motion. This isreally triple quick-action filming at54 frames a second for later projection at18 frames a second. Slow-motion withthe Nizo camera lets you follow very quickmovements which are hard to watch withthe naked eye.

Trick shots and trick films are no problemwith the automatic time lapse techniqueof Nizocameras anda Braun flash unit

During the period of time betweenshooting single f rames using the automatictime lapse facility, you can manipulateinanimate subjects. For example, objectscan be brought to life providing puppetor animated f il m shows. When using thistechnique you can employ a f lash unitwhich provides illumination equivalent todaylight; this removes the need forlamps which produce heat or spotlightswhich could harm the subject.

The Nizo camera incorporates a socket foran electronic flash synchronization lead.High performance and quick recycling arecalled for here, and these requirementsare met by the Braun 2000 Vario Computer(illustrated) or the Braun F 800. Note, too, that the accumulator or power supplyof the F800 can also be used to powerthe Nizo camera.

The variable shutter of Nizocamerasgives t ime exposures and fades

The variable shut ter of the Nizo camerais a disc with an open sector which rotatesin front of the film aperture; its angleof opening may be altered by means of alever on the camera side. If you ful lyclose the open sector while taking pictures, the film will receive a gradually-decreasingamount of light and finally none at all; inother words a fade-out has been achieved.A fade-in can be carried out by reversingthe procedure.

If you place the lever in this position, theopen sector is set at a smaller thanusual angle. The aperture is automaticallyopened up by one stop. Th is proceduremakes grey filters unnecessary in excessivelight; you can manipulate depth offield and sharper reproduction becomespossible in certain conditions.

Even though very little difference may beseen in the rangefinder, movies withgood definition will appear on the screen. With the lever locked in this position theshutter remains open until the automatictime lapse system advances the nextframe for exposure. The Nizo cameraprovides for exposure times of 1/Sth sec.continuously variable up to 1 minute.

If you make a fade-out and then wind backthe amount of film you have used, andfinally add a fade-in on the same length offilm, you get a double exposure on theprojection screen. This is easier than itsounds, because the Nizo camera does it allautomatically. All you need to do is pressthe pushbutton to start the fade-out follow-ed by the rewind, then within 3.5 secs, youare ready to press the pushbutton again
