Ningbo International School
A Community of Learners
Dates to Remember
2nd March School Starts
(Please note that this is a tentative date and may change
as the situation unfolds.)
Greetings from Sunny Ningbo!
I didn’t think that I would ever say this … but today, I was SO PLEASED … to see a
traffic jam! Surely a sign that Ningbo is gradually opening up again and that things
are indeed heading towards normal.
Some smaller shops have opened, service garages, banks, Taobao is on the move …
many more people out and about, and – with the new app-based Health Security
Card, there is pretty much freedom of movement if you don’t have a fever.
NBIS E-Learning:
We know that our community has been enormously dislocated and dispersed by the
Covid-19 outbreak, and that, for some, teaching/learning at home is really a
challenge. Spare a thought for many of our teachers, too, who have been stranded in
third countries, sometimes with little access to technology and resources, but doing
their best to support their students with the provision of meaningful learning tasks.
Despite all those challenges, we are delighted with some of the feedback we’ve been
getting and hope that you’ll enjoy these photos and reports as much as we did!
Early Years E-Learning
Over the past few weeks the children of Reception C have been receiving some
revision work and activities via our class WeChat group. Topics have included,
Healthy and Hygiene, and Spring growth (beginning with naming the parts of a
plant). The children have been busy practicing their skills in phonics, letter formation,
blending sounds together, number recognition, shape recognition, and completing
repeated patterns. The Reception Chinese Language teachers have also been sending
activities and work home for the children. This has all been done with the help and
support of the children's fabulous parents. Without their support this would not have
been possible. As a class we have shared photos of the children at work, and the
children's completed work as well. Here is a sample of the photos that have been
shared.
Chinese Department E-Learning
After two weeks of our E-Learning Programme, our Chinese Teachers are using
diverse tools to deliver the programme, whatever works best for them and their
students. This Tuesday (Feb.18) Chinese Department had an online meeting to share
the teaching resources and sum up the experiences in E-Learning. Chinese teachers
are working really hard to offer the best learning for our students. Besides regular
Chinese learning, the knowledge about Coronavirus is integrated into the teaching.
Ms. Jessie Gong’s class is making posters about nCov-19.
We are particularly aware of our examination students whose face-to-face time with
Teachers has been severely affected by this crisis. Chinese Department set up regular
online courses via Virtual Learning Platforms, such as ZOOM, RTX(腾讯会议),荔枝
微课,WeChat…that makes a fixed schedule for our students and a better
communication. We tried our best to ensure the learning for exam students will not
be affected much.
Here are some learning feedbacks from students.
Ms.Emily Zhang’s class learning ancient Chinese prose”Cao Gui Lun Zhan”, Chinese
Reading via iChinese Reader.
Ms. Alice Fang’s class using the mind map for character introduction
Mr. Simon Liu’s class preparing for the HSK Test
Ms. Monica Dong’s class is having the
Screencast Chinese courses.

GO CHINA GO!
It’s been super to see some of our children and parents sending messages and photos
of encouragement for China and for our NBIS Learning Community! Take a look at
these. So uplifting! Thank you! And … you can see more … including some video
clips … on our latest WeChat publication.
Letter from Year 6A
Dear Lovely Friends in China,
I hope all of you are safe and
healthy. It is sad to hear that you
are stuck in your apartment or in
your house. We think of you daily
and will always help if needed.
Please take care of yourself and
best to not see anyone else. We
hope that China will get rid of the
CORONA virus. If needed we can
always donate some masks.
We all wish you the best of the
best!

Work from Year 3
The children were asked to make a
poster of how to care for the earth.
This was a unique way to show this.
Also so much fun!

Like so many others around the world, and in China in particular, we have all been
affected by the Covid-19 outbreak. As Mr Ying, President of WEG, said this morning in
our leadership meeting:
This is a test for us all. Teachers, students and parents. But when we are faced with
such a test, we have the opportunity to show a ‘golden heart.’
Teachers are returning to Ningbo. Students too. And we are hoping to open school very
soon!
On behalf of all NBIS school staff, I send you warmest greetings and best wishes from
Ningbo!
