Nils Amadeus Lange

(*1989 Köln) works as a performer and choreographer in Zurich. After completing his drama studies at Hoch-schule der Künste Bern, he began withdrawing from theater, shifting his focus to abstract forms of expression, dance and performance history during his master's program „Scenic Arts Practice“ (also at Hochschule der Künste Bern). He uses his body as a weapon, with which he pierces through the audience's heads, in order to subsequently dissect memories of conventions, role models and gender stereotypes from their brains. With his series 666, he created a trilogy consisting of a solo, a duet and a group piece. The witch as the ultimate figure of resistance - against the hegemony of patriarchy as well as capitalist modes of production - is trans-ferred into her contemporary environment. In his solo, he established a radical feminist aesthetic based on the witch. This aestethetic was a central theme in both, the duet, as well as the group piece, with which he conclud-ed the series. His aesthetic is characterised by cooperations with other artists in addition to interdisciplinary thinking. Thus, in 666, he worked with fine arts artists on the set design, fashion designers created the costume designs and com-poser Tamer Fahri Özgönenc developed the musical composition. For the piece „under the influence“, he received the Publikumspreis des Performance Award Schweiz 2015 along with Janet Haufler. RRecent years have seen the emergence of not only his own work, but also various collaborations. Among other works, the online series and stagepiece „body and freedom“ was developed in collaboration with Florentina Holzinger, Vincent Riebeek, Annina Machaz and Manuel Scheiwiller, which premiered at Tanzhaus Zürich. (Fur-ther performances: ImPuls Tanz Wien, Liste Basel, Haus der Berliner Festspiele). At the lithuanian pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2015, he was part of the young boy dancing group, a company with open authorship. Furthermore, he gives workshops, mentors students (SNDO Amsterdam, HKB Bern, ZHDK Zürich amongst others), and works as a dramaturge in other productions. His works have been shown at various locations such as Swiss Dance Days, Zürich moves!, Gessnerallee, Frascati Amsterdam, ZÜRICH TANZT, Berliner Festspiele, Kunsthalle Bern, Les Urbaines Lausanne, Südpol Luzern, Tan-zhaus Zürich und CounterPulse San Francisco.

"You millions, I embrace you. This kiss is for all the world!"

In the safe haven oIn the safe haven of self-imposed isolation, the fear of diversity and intermingling keeps growing. The increasing calls for „I“ are rapidly replacing former ideas of „we“ only to, at times, be outsounded by pathos-laden calls for the community to „Come together!“. But can these really stop the increasing sense of alienation within our society?

TTOGETHER embraces this pathos, aiming to create a visualisation of solidarity and stories of people together in unity. Let’s live «togetherness» to all it’s pathetic po-tential along to Beethoven’s ninth symphony, a hymn of comradery, and experi-ence community through trust.

BEETHOVEN / NEUNTEPART 1 Gessnerallee Zürich, 2017

With his With his Symphony No. 9 (1824), Beethoven created an anthem to camaraderie. Nearly 150 years later, the Council of Europe honored the final movement by choos-ing it as its own anthem. In light of closed borders, exiting EU countries, and xeno-phobia, today–as in 1824–Beethoven's Ninth and the European anthem contradict the current political environment in Europe. The intended camaraderie has become enmity.Nils Amadeus Lange counters these developments with a choreography of equality and democracy. Through a live stream, this work can be experienced and learned by everyone.

YYoung boy dancing group is a lose performance collective around Tomislav Feller, Nils Amadeus Lange, Maria Metsalu, Ofelia jarl Ortega, Vincent Riebeek, Nicolas Roses, Manuel Scheiwiller. From event to event the cast, title and scenes are changing according to the venue. The show is constructed with different scenes addressing sexuality, digital age, fe-tishes, contemporary dance, pop and youth culture. The scenes are often structured improvisation with a prepared aesthetic approach aiming for an entertaining spectacle. Ybdg is critiquing the institutionalized performances and dance shows produced by the theaters, some shows being constructed within a day, quickly built up and vivid labeling. Thereby all the participators are having an influence on creating the scenes and carry the same authorship
