THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS A big thank you to our Sponsors for the 2018 School Diaries. We are very appreciative of the support we receive and would like to thank those businesses who sponsored our diaries this year. BOOK FAIR Nilma Primary School hosted our annual Scholastic Book Fair last week from Monday the 15th to Friday 19th October. All purchases made help support the school library and our literacy program by receiving books from scholastics as part of the commission made. This year we sold just over $1,000 worth of products with the school receiving $253 worth of books! Your support is appreciated and we wish you all happy reading! Thank you to the senior students who worked at the Book Fair developing their customer service and accounting skills.

Narrative Writing During our writing sessions students have been experimenting with ‘Sizzling Starts’, tension and excitement, as well as considering their use of punctuation and paragraphs.
The siren sounds. The teams run out of the
rooms and through the banner. It’s Carlton vs.
Sydney. Something’s odd!
Quarter time… The commentator notices
Buddy Franklin is not there but the game has
to keep going. At half time Buddy comes out
of the change rooms as a walking talking toilet!! Everyone is
shocked and surprised.

One night two teenagers knock on the door early in the morning. Mum woke up from it. The teenagers thought it was funny. Mum wasn’t happy. Mum went back to bed. Chapter 1 In the morning mum was so tired. Under her eyes was so black. Then I had to go school but what happens next … Chapter 2 Mum and I heard something when I was getting ready for school. I peek through the window. I saw the teenagers doing something. I jump out the window. I said “hey you get out off our property. So they run off. Then I go back inside and get ready. Then we tied up the dog. Then we left but something happened… Chapter 3 Mummy left the door open and guess what? The teenagers came back and robbed us. They took everything but I shout then they drop it. By Charlotte

are sourcing information of their selected
‘Travel Destination’ in preparation of
their travel brochure.
Formatting and Layout skills are being acquired by
individuals as they develop and manipulate their
brochure design in Word or Publisher.
Specific information and areas of interest are to be
researched and presented in a persuasive manner.
As part of their project students are to man a booth
for the upcoming ‘Travel Expo’ afternoon – this may
be something you could discuss at home… ideas for
their ‘Expo’ display.

We are particularly enjoying
our study of Japan—learning
about their customs and
culture. We have made koi
kites and a beautiful cherry
blossom ‘tree’. The children
are looking forward to sharing their
knowledge later in the term. Every
second Wednesday is our craft and
cooking morning. After reading and
spelling the children use their creative
hands to make something. The
children made honey crackles and
then loved eating them. Yum! Many
thanks to Debbie for her help and
patience.

The back segment of shelves are getting reattached to the van wall and the van will be back in action next week. The junior grades have listened to the humorous Oi Cat! by Kes Gray, and The Unscary Book by Nick Bland. Please have a look at our online catalogue of books at: http://bookmark.central.sa.edu.au/taragomarc.htm Email me if you would like to request a book to borrow, or offer a suggestion of titles for the MARC library to purchase. SCHOOL FUNDRAISER—ICYPOLE SLEEVES There is still time to get your orders in! This is not one that you want to miss out on… Save your fingers from the freezing cold with a reusable, washable icy-pole holder. Select your colours and personalise your very own icy-pole sleeve. This is perfect timing coming into summer and a terrific gift idea too! More order forms are available at the office. Money raised will go towards new materials or equipment for our students to use. Thank you to our senior students who are coordinating this great fundraiser.
BOTTLE CAP COLLECTION Don’t forget to collect and hand in your plastic Bottle Caps. Check the caps first to see that they display number 2 as this is the plastic we are recycling. Bottle caps are also one of the top polluters in our oceans. Recyclable, unfortunately bottle caps fall through the machinery and get sent to landfill. So let’s do something about it!
