New Hampshire's award- winning filmmaker Ken Burns tells Robinson's story in a new two-part series premiering this month. Born in 1919 to tenant farmers in rural Georgia and raised in California, Robinson challenged institutional racism as a teenager, long before he integrated baseball. In the spring of 1947, Brooklyn Dodgers General Manager Branch Rickey signed Robinson to a major league contract. To help ensure the success of his career, and protect the big league prospects of future African-American players, Robinson ignored the threats and abuse from other players. Meanwhile, he dazzled fans with his brilliant play and helped lead the Dodgers to the National League pennant. He became one of the most famous and popular men in the country at that time. After baseball, Robinson sought to fight inequality yet struggled to remain relevant during a time of social upheaval in the U.S. Monday - Tuesday, April 11 - 12 9 PM on NHPTV PRIME Jazz Follow the story of the quintessential American art form: jazz. Catch Opening Season With Ken BurnsJackie Robinson

He rose from humble origins to integrate Major League Baseball, performing brilliantly despite the threats and abuse he faced on and off the field. In the process, Jackie Robinson challenged the prejudiced notions of what a black man could achieve. New Hampshire's award-winning filmmaker Ken Burns tells Robinson's story in a new two-part series premiering this month.

The personal and professional lives of the nurses remain entwined, as events in their work impact their personal lives.
