SOME GREYHOUNDS have a longer learning curve than others, and that probably sums up Major Nui-sance. Winless since scoring at San-down in the middle of March, Jacob Hunt’s white and blue chaser got his act together and landed the 525 me-tres Scotty’s Meats Grade 5 in town last weekend. A $6.70 chance from box two, Major Nuisance easily led them to the post the first time, clocking 5.05 to show the way over Paper Chaser and Marcus Girl, while odds-on pop, Zambora Blueboy ($1.60) was next after missing the kick from the rails draw. With trouble occurring on the initial bend, the Tonngabbie based leader sneaked away to a three lengths break and reached the next checkpoint ahead of Zambora Blue-boy. And just when you may have thought the son of El Galo and Public Nui-sance might not see out the trip, he dashed further ahead.

Prepared by Pam Tabone, Major

Nuisance went to the line full of run-ning, scoring by four and a half lengths to Paper Chaser in 30.40, while there was a half length to third placed Zambora Blueboy.

Notching his first victory at The Meadows, Major Nuisance has won eight times with nine placings from 39 career starts.

Winner well hidden A DOUBLE by Lara’s Jamie Ennis was kick-started by Adulterous, who took out the Drums Social Club Grade 5 over 525 metres.

In a race that took punters a long time to sort out a favourite, that hon-our eventually belonged to the in-form Ferrari Bale ($3.10), with next best being Adulterous at $3.20 and

the third elect was Chris Bale ($5.50).

With most of the better creden-tialled runners drawn awkwardly, it was Ferrari Bale in the blue vest that led from Axels and Mungo Man a lap out in 5.16.

But Mungo Man speared to the front and led them along the back straight in 18.03, with Adulterous poised to pounce behind the paceset-ter, while both Suron Undercover and Chris Bale were running on.

Sporting the black vest, Adulter-ous dashed past Mungo Man on the final turn then edged clear for a one and three quarter lengths win when equalling his PB of 30.08, downing Mungo Man, with Suron Undercover five lengths further adrift.

Raced by Paul Westerveld, Adulterous (Meticulous - Aisha Magic) has raced on 26 occasions, gathering 13 wins and five placings for $38,150 in stakes, whereas Ja-mie’s other winner, One Last Chance has had seven starts for four wins.

When early leader, Restless Teddy copped a couple of checks on

the initial turn, One Last Chance ($2.30 fav) found the front and clocked 17.99 coming off the back.

The Michael Jones owned son of Path To Power and Dance Token was

still a couple of lengths clear round-ing the final corner and held on to beat the more seasoned Larocco in 30.20, with Icebox third in the 525 metres AJS Corporation Grade 5.

Winless at his past eight outings didn’t deter Lasting Effect’s chances of capturing the Mixed Grade 4 & 5 600 metres event on Saturday night. The honest and versatile chaser, raced by Tim Winter and prepared at Wangaratta by Neville Tait, the hard black chaser notched his 18th win from 72 career starts with his 34.99 victory.

The Paddy’s Flame sired Fiery stormed home to score second up in 30.19. Raced by Andrea Bahen and trained at Yuroke by Cameron Bahen, the Paddy’s Flame and Step Out sprinter has now won five of his 14 starts.

Finally a cigar for Havana. Kooroocheang based Paul Mc Coll had to wait until the last event to get the chocolates with the luckless Proven Havana. Placed in three of seven previous outings at The Meadows, the brindle daughter of Velocette and Thanks Blue appreciated the cherry alley and proved too strong for her rivals, stopping the clock at 30.57 to land the Grade 5 win.

CHARLIE LISTER, Britain’ most successful greyhound trainer of the post-war era, made history on Satur-

day, May 5, by collecting the first ever OBE for Services to Grey-hound Racing from Prince Charles

at Buckingham Palace. The service in the Ballroom

recognised Charlie’s sustained suc-cess over 40 years in the sport.

Dedication usually precedes accomplishment, and it wasn’t long before he set off for Wimbledon stadium to watch his five runners in tonight’s second round of the wil-liamhill.com Derby, the sport’s flagship competition that he has won a record six times.

Speaking at the Palace, Charlie said, “It’s a tremendous honour and obviously I’m very proud, but I’d like to think it reflects well on grey-hound racing as a whole.”

“It’s great for the greyhound industry.”

Charlie is universally respected and admired by his peers.

In addition to his greyhound Derby successes, he has won the Scottish Derby six times and 14 of greyhound racing’s other ‘classics’.

With another 46 other major greyhound competitions to his credit, no other active greyhound trainer can match this incredible haul of big-race successes.

He was crowned Trainer of the Year in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007, and won the coveted Trainers Championship competition in 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011.

At the age of 72, he remains at the height of his powers and is a true role model for other greyhound trainers across the length and breadth of the country.

Greyhound Board Chief Execu-tive, Barry Faulkner said, “I’m ab-solutely delighted that Charlie has received his OBE. He is passionate both about the sport and the grey-hound themselves.”

“The greyhounds in his care are trained to perfection and are kept in outstanding condition.”

RECKONED to be more of a San-down greyhound than The Meadows, mainly due to her two fast sub-29.40 wins at the Lightwood Road venue, Hannie Bale altered those opinions by handing in a new PB and Best Of Night 29.88 victory at the Broad-meadows layout last weekend.

From the three trap, Hannie Bale was rated at $4.30 behind $2.50 fa-vourite, Smoke Home, who seem-ingly had better form.

Boxrise at the 525 metres start in the Macro Meats Free For All saw

Hannie Bale lob right behind the lure, and after delivering a fast 5.01 split, showed the way from Smoke Home and Glenda Bale around the first bend.

Sizzling along the back, the Paul Wheeler owned daughter of Go Wild Teddy and Dyna Celeste paused the timer at 17.70 when holding a three lengths break on Smoke Home, while Streetbike Tommy was coming into the picture. But after beginning so well there was to be no catching Hannie Bale, who cruised past the judge four and a half lengths in front of Smoke Home, while Streetbike Tommy was a length and a half away third.

Prepared at Anakie by ‘Team Dailly’, Hannie Bale has contested 15 races, winning seven times with three placings, earning $31,625, whilst over the sprint journey at the northern suburbs track she’s posted two quick wins from four attempts. ANOTHER good winner on the night for the Dailly/Wheeler combo was Dyna Steal.

After drawing box four in the 525 metres MTD Grade 4, Dyna Steal was third pick at $4.20, and in a tough race, Lektra Johnson was sent out as the $3.40 favourite ahead of Dannie Bale at $4.10.

But Dyna Steal was fast away and ran to the front. leading Darlin Bale and Ellie Bale, recording 5.12.

With plenty of rough stuff occur-ring on the first bend, Dyna Steal powered clear along the back and halted the timer at 17.85 when hold-ing a three lengths lead over Bardot Bale and Dannie Bale.

But they couldn’t catch Dyna Steal, who saluted the judge three and a quarter lengths ahead of Bardot Bale in 30.07, with Dannie Bale a

further two and three quarter lengths away third.

At the track and distance, Dyna Steal (Collision - Gold Rush Bale)

has notched three wins from 11 tries, whilst his CV reveals 40 starts for 14 wins and eight placings, earning $43.380 along the way.

Young Mick Delaroche was entrusted with the handling duties of the very capable Dyna Steal, who landed a Grade 4 sprint event in 30.07. A member of that illustrious litter of Collision and Gold Rush Bale, the injury-prone sprinter is still ultra competitive and his weekend victory was his 14th from only 40 outings.

Robert Camilleri shares the foreman duties at the Bate kennel with Joe Briffa, and the pair have been busy running the huge Lara operation, whilst their boss Graeme Bate recovers from a knee operation. Robert looked after the very honest Flip Bale, who captured a Mixed 4th/5th Grade sprint event in 30.08, which took nearly eight lengths off his previous 30.57 PB for the 525 metres trip. Unplaced just three times from 13 starts over the Broadmeadows sprint distance, Flip Bale is a son of Where’s Pedro and Horizon Bale.

EL BROOKLYN led throughout to take out the Group 2 Macey’s Bistro Warrnambool Classic final over the 450 metres last Wednesday night. Two of Victoria’s best bitches, El Brooklyn and Zara Zulu had drawn

boxes one and two and were booked for a rematch of their semi-final, where the latter scored in 25.22 by a length and a half over the former.

Punters had them at the top of their list, with El Brooklyn running favourite at $3.00 ahead of Zara Zulu ($3.60). Fastest qualifier, Cape Hawke out of box five was at $3.70, with the pink vested Great Chase winner, Fully Advanced the only other runner under double-figure odds at $7.10.

The remaining four were at around 20/1 or better, with Joshua ($20.20), Make The Call ($21.30), Max A Zillion ($24.20) and Quo Vadis ($41.80).

The start was crucial to so many of the runners’ chances, and this race might have been run and won by whatever chaser got out of the traps first and found the front.

When the traps flew open to send them on their $70,000 quest, it was almost a perfect start, although Max A Zillion marginally won the jump with Fully Advanced and El Brook-

lyn was also quickly out. Once they found their feet it was

El Brooklyn that showed the best early speed to narrowly find the lead and was the first one down to the first peg in 6.55.

On her outside, just a neck down was her main rival, Zara Zulu, while Make The Call had possied third with Fully Advanced on his outside, and they’d already put a couple of lengths on the rest, headed by Joshua.

With the advantage of the inside, El Brooklyn shrugged-off Zara Zulu and went past the second marker in 11.49 with what was now a two lengths break.

Zara Zulu was trying to keep in touch in second spot, while Fully Advanced was improving on the out-side into third place, with Make The Call and Cape Hawke close at hand.

On the final bend it was still El Brooklyn in charge, and by sticking hard to the fence she maintained con-trol as they entered the home straight.

Zara Zulu was back on her ham-mer and giving her all trying to rein-

in the leader, with Fully Advanced losing ground by coming wide, and he was being followed by Cape Hawke.

But El Brooklyn had plenty of petrol left in the tank and was basi-cally untroubled down the running, scoring by a length and a half.

Zara Zulu picked up second money with a gallant effort, whilst Fully Advanced was certainly not disgraced with his third, a length and three quarters away.

Cape Hawke was the fourth one home ahead of Make The Call, Max A Zillion, Joshua and Quo Vadis.

El Brooklyn did what she needed to do to win this race and never wasted her draw to record 25.27 when making it two from four at the trip.

The daughter of El Galo and Dark Marne has now scored in 11 of her 16 efforts to date, and along with three seconds, has put $84,175 in the bank.

The white and blue youngster, owned and trained by Seona Hood

and Jason Thompson, who raced El Brooklyn’s sire, El Galo, and they also stand him at stud.

Red boxes make all the difference in big race finals. El Brooklyn, with Luke and Jason Thompson, after the white daughter of El Galo and Dark Marne triumphed in the $70,000 to the winner Macey’s Bistro Warrnambool Classic on May 2.

DYNA BERT broke through for his first Group victory by taking out the final of the Group 2 Norlane Hotel Warrnambool Cup over 450 metres last Wednesday night.

In a star-studded line-up, the son of Collision and Gold Rush Bale was one of four chasers vying for favour-itism in the $40,000 to the winner race.

Drawn box two, the red brindle chaser wound up second elect at

$4.00, whilst his litter brother, Dyna Tron from box six was the one that punters finally opted for at $3.80.

Peggy May in the seven was at $4.30, while Classy Maldini out of box one was at $4.70.

The only other runner under dou-ble figure odds was the fastest quali-fier, Come On Rodge, who was rated at $9.80 out of box four.

The remaining trio of Wy Yung Tiger, Jordy Pordy and Garett Bale

weren’t afforded much hope, and were respectively $18.70, $27.50 and $28.20 on SuperTAB.

With many of the runners need-ing to be up on the speed early to have any chance, the start was vital.

As the traps flew open it was a great start, with only Classy Maldini and Come On Rodge being a bit slowly away.

Dyna Bert quickly put the speed on to find the lead and raced down to

the first peg in 6.59. Jordy Pordy was sit-ting second, three quarters of a length down, while Classy Maldini had im-proved on the fence to be third. Dyna Bert had the pace on to the second mark, getting there in 11.46, but Classy Maldini was right on his hammer, and they’d broken away from the rest, headed by Jordy Pordy and Dyna Tron. On the home bend it was Dyna Bert in charge, but Classy Maldini peeled off his back and tried to come around the leader, losing ground in the proc-ess by drifting out half a dozen dogs off the fence, and they seemingly had the quinella between them.

The reality though was that Dyna Bert was always travelling like a win-ner after the first few metres, and he made his way to the line to score comfortably by three and a quarter lengths in a new PB and Best Of Night 25.18, making it two from two at the trip.

Classy Maldini picked up his fourth Group podium finish with his gallant second, whilst Jordy Pordy ran the race of his life for third, a half length away.

Dyna Tron came in fourth, hot on the heels of the placegetters, with his kennelmate, Garett Bale fifth in front of Wy Yung Tiger, Peggy May and

Come On Rodge. All the accolades belong with the

winner; as he is a most deserving victor, having been runner-up in two other ‘black type’ races.

Owned by Brendan Wheeler, Dyna Bert has now raced 53 times for 18 wins and 23 placings, whilst his stakemoney is now a very healthy $205,363.

Trained by Andrea Dailly, we caught up with George Dailly, who told us, “Yeah, it was a great win; he probably deserved one.”

“He ran second in the Geelong Cup and the Egg, and I think he only needed a bit of luck on his side.”

“He’s been a good little dog for us and I suppose he might have lived in his brother’s shadow a little; the other bloke might have had a bit bet-ter luck eh,” quipped George.

“But there’s not a heck of lot be-tween them (Bert and Tron) and it’s been a great litter, as they’ve made more than a million dollars, which is really amazing.”

We asked George what was com-ing up for Dyna Bert, and he re-ported, “He’ll go into The Dawson at Sandown next week.”

BRENDAN WHEELER was a very happy man after Desalle Bale took out last Saturday nights Evans & Son Ladies Bracelet at Wen-tworth Park last Saturday night.

‘Team Wheeler’ won the Bracelet the year prior with Tonelli Bale, and it was “mum” Jan, who got to keep the most sought after hand-crafted Bracelet prize.

However, with Desalle Bale’s victory, it is Brendan’s wife, Nichole who gets to wear this year’s prize, so all is well balanced in the trainer’s eyes with the two most important females in his life. Desalle Bale has really emerged on the scene in the past few months and has a great affinity with the Glebe circuit.

To date, the daughter of Go Wild Teddy has had 10 starts at the track for four wins and five plac-

ings, which now include a GEE placing, plus this Group 3 victory. The race had plenty of pace, and when the lids opened it was the rank outsider, Cosmic Image that emerged from box three to lead and clocked a 5.36 first sec-tion to take them around the first corner from Desalle Bale in the black vest, with Wez Da Risk from box five just behind them. The leading trio all negotiated the first corner safely, and Cosmic Image led to the back with Desalle Bale drifting up the track, as has become customary, whilst right on their hammer was Wez Da Risk, with Tifia moving up out wide to look a hope. Approaching the home bend Cosmic Image still led and the bookies started to get excited, while Desalle Bale was gradually edging closer.

Nearing the post the class fac-tor told.

Desalle Bale grabbed the as-cendancy and scored by a half length over Cosmic Image, run-ning the 520 metres trip in 30.10, with Tifia running on to take third prize, a further two and a quarter lengths back. Desalle Bale who will front the Sapphire heats at Sandown tonight (Thursday), is from a March 2010 litter of Princess Bale and overall has had a career of 24 starts for 11 wins and six placings, with this $25,000 prize taking her earnings to $84,000.

Cosmic Image (Miagi x Clos-ing Conquest) gave a great thrill to the Becroft family, and after 27 career starts has registered five wins and 10 placings, whilst Tifia (Collision x Tifi) for trainer, Chris O’Brien, in her short career has grabbed three wins and three plac-ings from six starts.

Kev returns EARLIER ON, one of Australia’s wealthiest men got a dividend when Captive scored a scintillating win in the Schweppes Stake over 520 metres.

Kevin Maloney has been most successful in the Mining Industry for the past 20 years and recently expanded his thoroughbred racing portfolio, which now boasts own-ership of the iconic Segenhoe Stud in the NSW Hunter Valley.

It was father, Joe, who was a past NCA Vice President, and the greyhound industry ties have never been broken, despite his own wealth far outstripping anything in this sport. Captive, a new purchase, has taken a little while to come to hand, but judging by his dominant nine lengths victory in fast time, the $9,000 purchase price is like “chicken feed” for what might come later on this year. From box two, Captive was third away but gathered momen-tum quickly and was a comfortable leader over Flying Lee and Red Orphan at the first turn.

Stepping it up a notch, Captive raced away down the back and was clocking fast sections. Turning for home it was a mere formality for Captive, as the 32kg chaser raced right away to win by an impressive nine lengths over Red Orphan, with Tarawi Shiraz running on for third, a fur-ther two and a quarter lengths astern. A career best time of 29.86 was handed in by Captive, a son of Collision and Vizcaya, trained by Marie Burton, who now had 20 starts yieldiing five wins and eight placings.

Red Orphan (Mandagery Man x Glen Abbey Treat), trained by Les Whitton, from 54 career starts has collected 10 wins and 17 plac-ings, whilst Tarawi Shiraz (Bombastic Shiraz x Tarawi Gem) has raced 22 times producing four wins and eight placings for trainer, Russell Mansley.

Happy team: Brendan Wheeler and Desalle Bale stand centre stage after annexing the Group 3 Evans & Son Ladies Bracelet last Saturday night, whilst the placegetters, Cosmic Image (3) with Norm Becroft and Tifia (8) with Chris O’Brien, can only look on, wondering when it will be their turn.

Last weekend Captive won a 5th Grade at Wenty Park, showing why Kevin Maloney paid $9.000 for the Collision and Viscaya product.

THERE ISN’T MUCH that Hall of Fame trainer, Ron Ball hasn’t achieved, but at Albion Park last Thursday night Cakes And Pies gave him his first Young Guns victory.

The daughter of Big Daddy Cool and Ultra Swift scored by two lengths over Hanson Senor, with five and three quarter lengths to Bessy Blue third.

The pint-sized 25kg bitch took her record to four wins and seven placings in 13 starts with the victory.

Cakes And Pies is raced by Bob Fairbairn, a long-time Ball kennel client who had also shared in the ownership of National Derby winner, Pretty Tardy back in the 1990s.

Terry Hines, who sponsored the Young Guns through his stud dog, Give Me Five, bred the winner from his former star race bitch, Ultra Swift.

Give Me Five sired runner-up, Hanson Senor.

Cakes And Pies ran 30.10, which disappointed Ball.

“I thought she would go quicker than that,” he said.

Cakes And Pies had broken 30-seconds when chasing home Innis-plain Jet when second in a heat the previous week.

“This is a very good litter,” said Ball, “but they are all spooks.”

“She is only tiny but she is all heart and is coming good now.”

Ball said professional trainers live off box draws, and that was the story of the Young Guns victory for Cakes And Pies.

When she drew the rails, she was always going to the one to beat in the final.

Hines said Ultra Swift had won 12 races at Albion Park, and her dam was a Sydney Cup winner at Wen-tworth Park.

“Ultra Swift also finished second to Buckingham Chuck in a State Fi-nal of the National Sprint,” said Hines.

“She has a litter now eight months old by Surf Lorian.”

Cakes And Pies will now go on to the Young Guns series at Ipswich on Tuesday week.

“I’ll have to check if she is eligi-ble first,” said Ball.

Cakes And Pies led through a 5.74 first section and gave nothing

else a chance, with an 11.61 middle section and then came home in 12.75, which was good enough.

Knocka to Victoria TOP TRAINER, Reg Kay is sending Knocka Down to Victoria to be trained by Jason Thompson.

Kay said this after Knocka Down (Knocka Norris - Surf Queen) had led throughout to win a 520 metres Fifth Grade at Albion Park last Thursday night.

He scorched through a 5.62 first section and then raced right away to win by eight and three quarter lengths, downing Sarah’s Ace, with a length and three quarters to Cool Trick third.

And Kay will send the dog off to Victoria with a huge wrap.

“This dog is just as good as Don’t Knocka Him,” said Reg.

Don’t Knocka Him is a litter brother to Knocka Down, and re-cently established a race record when winning the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg.

Knocka Down was always the boom dog of the pair, especially when he won the rich July Maiden at Grafton last year in impressive style, beating kennelmate, McElle.

Early this year McElle made the Group 1 National Derby final, so the ability of Knocka Down is obvious.

He is on the comeback trail after injury, and last Thursday night’s win was his first in four starts since his return.

He finished third in a heat of the Young Guns the previous week, but Kay admits the dog went into that race underdone.

He was beaten only three lengths by Innisplain Jet in a flying 29.82.

Knocka Down showed his un-doubted class with a 29.85 victory at Albion Park last Thursday night.

Greg continues reign FROM the moment Greg Stella broke-in Rylee’s Reign he has known the dog is a natural.

But Greg has had to be patient with him.

Last Thursday night at Albion Park, Rylee’s Reign showed the sort of ability Greg has always known he has with a brilliant all the way win in a 520 metres Novice.

Rylee’s Reign (Bit Chili - Reneen Lass) was ultra impressive when leading throughout in 30.23, scoring by seven and three quarter lengths to Raine Rose Hi, with a further four lengths to third placed Cool Rio.

It was his second win in six starts after scoring impressively in a Graf-ton Maiden in March.

Stella had run the dog through the Vince Curry Maiden series at Ips-wich.

“He was very inexperienced when he ran in the series,” said Greg, “but he spiked his webbing and had to be scratched from the semi-finals.”

Rylee’s Reign is just 22 months of age.

Stella said the dog broke-in as a natural, and he was expecting further improvement.

“He trialled 30.27 here a couple of weeks ago, and tonight he has run up to his trial time,” said Greg.

Stella had planned to back-up Rylee’s Reign in the heats of the Ca-palaba Derby two days after his Al-bion Park win.

“He does go well up there, but not as good as his kennelmate, Ry-lee’s Enforcer. who is unbeaten at Capalaba.”

Stella was particularly impressed by his dog’s middle section tonight.

He sped through an 11.60 time to open a huge break on his rivals.

“The rails box helped him to-night, but he is also very promising,” said Greg.

Atop the dais after landing the 520 metres Young Guns final in 30.10 at Albion Park on Thursday, Cakes And Pies and trainer, Ron Ball seem quite satisfied with their night’s work.

A member of a top litter, Knocka Down, pictured with Reg Kay and Julie Edmondson at Albion Park, could be something special after running a very quick 29.85 in a Fifth Grade last week. The blue fawn racer is about to head to Victoria, having won half of his 14 starts.

Rylee’s Reign posted a 30.23 gallop when taking out a Novice last Thursday night. The Greg Stella prepared black dog has won just two races from a handful of starts, the other being at Grafton in March.

PINTS DELIGHT maintained his impressive strike rate at Angle Park last Thursday night when he won the Henley Raiders Rugby League Club Grade 4 feature final for trainer, Brian Rayner. A 29.73 Best Of Night heat win-ner a week earlier, Pints Delight was expected to be hard to beat again in the final and started at $3.30 behind race favourite, Head Tuner ($2.30). Nicely drawn in box three at the 515 metres start, Pints Delight com-menced nicely and accelerated to share the lead with Full Embargo through the first turn. Racing to a clear lead over Full Embargo entering the back straight, Pints Delight slipped into overdrive and kicked clear, reaching the top turn with a five lengths break. Rounding the final bend well clear of Head Tuner, Pints Delight finished the race off powerfully. The son of Superman and Cool Pints crossed the line four and a quar-ter lengths ahead of Head Tuner in Best Of Night 29.84, with Cambrian Rock finishing well in third place. One of the state’s most talented chasers, Pints Delight took his record to an impressive 25 wins and 16 plac-ings from 54 career starts.

Dancing to victory DANCING JAY LO brought up her 15th win at Angle Park last Thursday night when victorious in the 515 me-tres British Hotel Port Adelaide Mixed 2nd/3rd/4th Grade for trainer, Ossie Chegia. A $5.00 chance drawn box two, Dancing Jay Lo jumped safely and showed great field sense to position up in second place behind Crazy Heart through the first turn. Railing through to join Crazy Heart down the back straight, Danc-ing Jay Lo edged away and reached the top turn with a clear lead. Rounding the final bend still un-der pressure from Crazy Heart trying to regain the lead, Dancing Jay Lo proved too strong.

Although Kalden Aurora flashed home, the daughter of Meticulous and Tilka Lee scored by a neck to Kalden Aurora in 30.12, while Crazy Heart hot on their heels in third place.

Bosco’s stars shine FIVE HEATS of the Group 3 Breed-ers Plate series were run at Angle Park last Wednesday, with the first three runners past the post in each heat, along with the fastest fourth place, going through to this week’s semi-finals.

AMARA JANE made it two ca-reer starts for two victories when she took out heat one for trainer, Howard Gray. Starting at skinny odds of $1.10 from box two, Amara Jane settled down second then snatched the lead in the shadows of the post, scoring by a nose to Bindi’s Angel in 30.55, with Footrot Fiora third.

SUPER LOOPER notched his second win on the track for trainer, Nicole Price when successful in heat two. Starting well in the market at $3.80 from box seven, Super Looper settled third and raced to the lead through the final bend, racing away for a five and a half lengths victory over Sheza Grenade in a new per-sonal best 30.07, with Belford mak-ing late ground in third place.

IZZY MAIN maintained her strong form for trainer, Don Turner when she won heat three in sterling fashion. Sporting the pink vest, Izzy Mai ($1.50 fav) jumped nicely and raced to the front in the back straight before going on and score by nearly seven lengths over Footrot Foo in 30.15, with Miss Mosh third.

MY LITTLE STAR recorded up her seventh consecutive victory for trainer, Bosco Stamenkovic, when she won heat three. Starting at tomato sauce odds of $1.20 from box seven, My Little Star was third early but improved into second place down the back.

FORTISSIMUS gave Bosco his second heat winner by taking out the final heat. Donning the check singlet and sent to the boxes at $4.80, Fortis-simus settled down third early and worked home well, scoring a run-away five and a half lengths win over Unity in 30.18, with Wicked Fish third.

Winners are grinners MAD MONZA racked-up her first win at Angle Park last Monday when

she ran the fastest time of the night in a Grade 5 event for trainer, George Cooper. Starting as a $4.40 chance from box three, Mad Monza jumped well and took the lead through the first turn then raced away to score by seven and a half lengths over Roman-tic Time in 29.98.

SNEAKY SPIRIT handed in a personal best effort for trainer, Don Turner at Angle Park last Wednesday when she ran best of day in a Grade 5 event. A $5.80 chance wearing the yel-low vest, Sneaky Spirit came out run-ning and made every post a winner, crossing the line more than a length ahead of Lagoon Raxy in 30.03.

PAUA TO ROCK made a big impression for trainer. Petar Jovanovic when he won a Grade 5 at Angle Park last Thursday night. Drawn box eight and starting $2.80 favourite, Paua To Rock began sweetly and charged to the lead through the first turn before going on for to reg-ister a three and three quar-ter lengths win over Koubek in a new personal best 29.85.

Jessenia here to stay JESSENIA BALE main-tained her strong form over the 731 metres journey at Angle Park last Thursday night when she landed the sportscentre.com.au Mixed 4th/5th Grade for trainer, Shaun Matcott. Exiting box seven as the $2.30 popular elect, Jessenia Bale came out running and easily led Miss Woods through the first turn. Showing the way by three lengths over Miss Woods with a lap to run, Jessenia Bale maintained her pace passing the catch-ing pen and increased her lead down the back straight, reaching the top turn with a five lengths break. Rounding the final bend with Miss Woods trying desperately to make an impression, Jessenia

Bale proved too strong. And whilst Kalden Petroni finish-

ing fast, the daughter of Bartrim Bale and Serene Bale won by three and a half lengths in 43.71, while Miss Woods occupied third place.

Top Dog MURRAY BRIDGE TRAINER, Shaun Matcott has spaced his rivals in the Leading SA TAB Trainer, with 113 winners to the end of April. Petar Jovanovic is a clear second on 50 winners, followed by Lisa Ras-mussen (45) and Troy Murray (44). Don Turner is still showing the way in the Leading Non-TAB Trainer

with 6 winners, three clear of ben Rawlings (3) with Neil Mann, David Hall and Alisha Sutherland locked together on 2 apiece. The Leading SA Stud Dog is turning into a tight contest, as Emer-ley Carlos holds a narrow lead with 15 winners to date. Scull Murphy is close behind on 14, well clear of Lucky Pristine (7), while Coulta Bomber and Falcon share fourth on 5. Judi Hurley still holds the front in the Leading SA Breeder with 45 points, closely followed by Ben Mur-phy (43), with Don Turner third (36).

Pints Delight, with trainer Brian Rayner and the Henley Raiders Rugby League senior squad at Angle Park last Thursday night. A son of Superman and Cool Pints, Pints Delight made it back to back sub 30-seconds wins at the Cardigan Road venue, with this latest completed in Best Of Night 29.84.

WHAT a great result it was for trainer, Charlie Riccio when Off My Trout led throughout to win over the 720 metres at the 31kg black chaser’s first attempt at the half-mile journey around Wentworth Park last Friday night.

The likeable trainer has had some health issues in recent times, but fol-lowing some terrific news and a doc-tor’s clearance, things couldn’t get much better, so the win just added to a great couple of weeks. The dog is owned by the No. 23 Syndicate, and with great sports-manlike Michael Jordan and Shane Warne wearing shirt 23 in their vari-ous sports, the number has that win-ning feel. Boxrise saw Off My Trout step nicely to lead from box three, with Folksinger in the four and Pure As in the pink vest close up as they hit the first corner.

Off My Trout rolled clear at the lap mark, with Pure As the best of the rest to give chase. Those who supported the leader were hoping he could keep going at his first long race, but they should have realised that his trainer knew what could be achieved with a clear run, and distance wouldn’t be a worry. Turning for home Off My Trout was full of running and raced to the line a comfortable five and a half lengths winner over Pure As in 42.39, with Lolo Jones running home strongly to be a nose away third. Off My Trout, by Collision from Ate Bucks, to date has had 26 career starts for five wins and seven plac-ings.

Trained by Andy Lord, Pure As,

a son of Pure Octane and Curi Lee, has produced five wins and 13 plac-ings from 31 starts, whilst Lolo Jones (Where’s Pedro x Proven Babe), trained by Carolyn Hore, after 65 career starts has notched 15 wins and 21 placings.

A DROP in class was well re-ceived by Yo Cool Maxie, who was far too good for his rivals in the Cen-trebet Stake over 520 metres. From the outset, Yo Cool Maxie was well away from box six with Odette close up from box two, and they raced into the first corner to-gether.

Yo Cool Maxie worked to the lead leaving the straight, with Romba getting into second spot to give chase, along with Odette, who was still nice and handy. Yo Cool Maxie was travelling well down the side, with Romba the best of the others, and he gradually reduced the deficit after heads were turned for home. Despite reducing the margin, Yo Cool Maxie were able to hold on to win by a length from Romba in 30.25, with Odette holding down third place, a further three lengths away. Yo Cool Maxie, who’s by Big Daddy Cool out of Be My Girl, trained by Barry Evans, has now had

29 career starts for eight wins with 12 placings.

Kylie McDonald’s Romba (Bombastic Shiraz x Aruba Assassin) has had 41 career starts for nine wins and 16 placings, whilst Odette (Give Me Five x Munyahna) has produced five wins and five placings from 20 career starts for Gwenda Whitehead.

Retro revs up NEIL STAINES grabbed a win with his veteran sprinter, Retro Zarr, who was far too good in the petsnacks.com.au Stake over 520 metres.

Take Over Fox began best from box seven, with the green vested Retro Zarr also away well, and by the first turn was able to hit the front. Retro Zarr got clear down the back with a bunch of chasers behind him, including El Caballo, who was working through the pack to give chase. Retro Zarr was travelling well coming to the home corner and looked all over a winner in the home straight.

Racing clear over the concluding stages, Retro Zarr defeated the fast

finishing El Caballo by three and a half lengths in 30.23, while Bravado Dos wound up third, a further three and three quarter lengths away. By Hallucinate out of Fast Liner, Retro Zarr has contested 54 races for 17 wins and 15 placings.

Trained by Doreen Drynan, El Caballo (El Galo x Eluthra) from 38 career starts has recorded seven wins with 18 placings, whilst the Diane Wells trained Bravado Dos (Pure Octane x Dos Santos) has had 77 career starts to date for seven wins and 28 placings.

NSW

Ron Arnold

Veteran sprinter, Retro Zarr, trained at Yass by Neil Staines, made it 17 wins from 54 starts when he won a 5th Grade at Wentworth Park last Friday night, clocking 30.23 over 520 metres.

SILENT GIGGLE made an impres-sive start to the Vets Medley Series in Hobart last Thursday night with a gallant last-stride win in a heat over 599 metres. The Loretta Luttrell trained bitch was sent out a short-priced favourite, but had those who took the short odds holding their breath as she tried to gun down the leader, Megastar Spargo all the way along the home straight. However, in the end it was her courage that got her home, scoring by a neck from Megastar Spargo, with Monahan Bully a closing third. The Vets Medley Series com-prises two rounds of heats over dif-ferent distances, with the top eight points-scorers from the two rounds to progress to the final over 599 metres. The field for the final is deter-mined on a points-score basis, with 11 points for first, eight for second and six for third diminishing by one point through to seventh, with no points for last. Silent Giggle has struck peak form and Luttrell says she will be just as competitive over the shorter trip of 461 metres in the second round of heats. “To get into the final you have to win at least one of the heats, so we’re off to a good start,” Luttrell said. “She is so courageous, and we saw that tonight the way she chased Megastar Spargo down in the straight.” “She copped a bad check early and overcame that, and then to re-cover and run a personal best over the trip is very pleasing,” she said. Silent Giggle is owned by Len Harley, who purchased the bitch as a pup in Victoria. Luttrell says Silent Giggle is very versatile and will be just as competi-tive over the sprint journey in the next round of heats. Silent Giggle covered the 599 metres trip in 34.63, which was well inside her previous best (34.70).

Fresh approach PREPARED by Anthony Bullock, Classic Camdale made a great return to the middle distance in Hobart with an emphatic win in a Vets Medley heat. The son of Collision began well

from box six and had the leader Shafah Tiger in his sights as they sped down the back stretch. Classic Camdale hit the front rounding the top turn and then dashed clear, going on to score by almost two lengths from Shafah Tiger, with the heavily backed favourite, Miss Hetti a closing third, a neck away. Bullock said his attempt to keep the dog fresh for the event paid off. “The dog is much better suited on the Launceston track, probably be-cause the lure isn’t loud enough here in Hobart, but he’s done a good job to win,” Bullock said. “It’s been a while since I’ve run him over the 599 metres, so he’s bound to improve at his next couple of runs here (Hobart),” he said. Bullock expects the dog to be as good over the sprint trip in his second round heat.

“I’ve kept him away from this track to keep him fresh for this series, and so far it’s worked out well,” he said.

Charlie blitzes rivals SHANLYN CHARLIE was impres-sive when winning a heat, scoring by over seven lengths in 34.75. The Graeme Moate trained dog began well from box eight and settled second behind Whitney’s Rose, who had two lengths on them by the time they hit the first turn. Shanlyn Charlie moved alongside the leader turning for home and when he slipped into overdrive he left his rivals in his wake. His acceleration was impressive, and would only need to take the same form into his next heat over 461 me-tres to accrue enough points to pro-gress to the final on May 17. From the inside box, Hellyeah Reggie motored home after suffering interference early and could be a con-tender for the final, whilst Miss Astro also made up good ground over the concluding stages to finish third.

Jet flies high WYNBURN JET picked up maxi-mum points when he proved too strong in a Vets Medley Series heat. The Sandy Elphinstone trained dog had only modest form going into the race but when he moved along-side race leader, Bosco nearing the top turn, he quickly put the end result beyond doubt. Wynburn Jet (Big Daddy Cool - Swift Azz) had good form early in his career, especially over the middle distances in Hobart and Devonport. His form is not as good over the sprint trips, but he only has to get a wide box at his next outing to be competitive. Proven Lotus stuck to his guns and held down second, thus earning decent points, while Peter Pines made up many lengths in the home straight to grab third, with Bosco tiring over the final few metres to cling to fourth.

Cheergirl on song WELL BRED bitch, Cheergirl deliv-ered a quality performance to notch her first win in a Juvenile over 461 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last Thursday night. Cheergirl (Premier Fantasy - Flick The Switch) showed great track sense to weave her way through the field after being slowly away from box four. The Mick Stringer trained bitch went into the race with only three runs to her credit, with a third on de-but her best effort. But she is obviously a quick learner, as was evidenced by the way she made her way through the field from an awkward position nearing the home turn. Kennel spokesman, Brett Gordon said Cheer-girl was a handful at times. “She has a few little quirks around the kennel but she is starting to come to terms with racing and I think she showed that to-night,” Gordon said. “She missed the start a bit and then had a wall in front of her, but she eased and baulked to take the run on the inside when it presented. so it was a very encouraging effort.” he said. P r emie r Fan tas y showed good early speed to vie for the lead to the top turn, with Arthur Pines and Rosie Cheeks, and they travelled three abreast to the top turn. Just when Premier Fantasy had shrugged-off the other two, Cheergirl slipped through on the rail and went on to score by just over three lengths from Pretty Fantasy. It was the first of three winners for Stringer, who also prepared New Recruit to win the Invitation over 461 metres, and Millie Grace, who gave her ri-vals a galloping lesson in a Grade 4 over 461 me-tres.

Intense suspense ROD RANSLEY only has a handful of dogs in his kennels at Brighton, but what he has is quality, and that was evidenced by the effort of Intense Suspense

to land a heat of the Vets Medley Series. Intense Suspense (Where's Pedro - Cold Ethyl) was having only his third start in Tasmania for Ran-sley, but this was clearly his best ef-fort. He jumped well from box eight, but not as quick as Hellyeah Kristy, who flew the lids wearing the black vest and landed two lengths clear at the first turn. But when Intense Suspense

closed in to make a race of it, Ran-sley’s dog put the end result beyond doubt in the blink of an eye. Intense Suspense went on to score by seven lengths from Western Ruby, who worked home nicely after being near last nearing the top turn, while Rocket Tadmore finished the race off well to grab third, a head away. Intense Suspense stopped the clock at 34.69, which was the second best of the five heat winners.

One of three winners for Mick Stringer, Cheergirl took out a Juvenile event in Hobart last week, running the 461 metres trip in 26.62.

Classic Camdale wins a heat of the Vets Medley Series at Tattersall’s Park last Thursday night, clocking 35.18 when notching his 10th career victory.

Loretta Luttrell holds Silent Giggle, who got up in the last few bounds to annex a heat of the 599 metres Vets Medley Series in 34.63.

AYE AYE CAPTAIN scorched around the Cannington circuit on Saturday night and took out a Grade 5 by nine lengths in 30.35.

The Linda Britton trained chaser will head into this week’s Group 2 WA Derby heats as a strong con-tender for owner, Robert Crawford.

Aye Aye Captain headed the mar-ket at $3.10, with two other Derby hopefuls, Kalden Bolt and Canning-ton debutant, Dynamik Bolt both well tried.

Dynamic Bolt, trained by An-drew McLaren, was squeezed early but railed to a length lead at the open-ing marker, while Aye Aye Captain mustered well from box three and Kalden Bolt blew the jump and was last. Aye Aye Captain ran a fantastic bend and emerged with a two lengths break over Dynamik Bolt onto the far side.

The regally bred son of Bombas-tic Shiraz and Leprechaun Pace left the back section four lengths clear in a solid 18.94, increasing his break on a stretched out chasing brigade. Turning for home nine lengths clear, the January 2010 whelp main-tained the pace to record his fifth and quickest victory, taking his earnings over $12,000.

Dynamik Bolt railed well throughout to record a solid placing at his first step up in distance, with Kalden Bolt making up ground to be fourth. CITY RUMBLE is another Derby contender on the rise, stepping into city graded company with a strong win in 30.57.

The Terry Erenshaw prepared son of Brett Lee and Rumble Amour stepped cleanly and was level-pegging with Bustling Shiraz into the first turn. After being taken wide by Bus-

tling Shiraz, the $2.40 favourite steadied, powered to the paint and was working to get past the leader as they swung onto the back.

City Rumble blitzed through to lead passing the 642 metres boxes but had not shaken off a stubborn Bus-tling Shiraz. City Rumble was clear turning for home and ran out a three lengths winner over Bee Tee You and Bus-tling Shiraz.

The Shaun Miller owned grey-hound has won four of his six race starts and looks assured of a very bright future. VOCAL ENFORCER again con-firmed himself to be the best Free To All sprinter in WA with a gutsy come from behind win.

The Andrew McLaren trained dog was sent to the boxes a $3.40, with the pacy Uno Reltub well sup-ported at $3.90. Uno Reltub was away slickly to record a sensational 5.65 opening stanza, with Vocal Enforcer having a share of second place travelling three wide in the pink vest.

After copping a heavy check into the turn, the favourite accelerated through the bend to find the rails, four lengths off the lamplighter. Uno Reltub was high flying leav-ing the back in 18.87, with the others spread out and in single file in his wake.

But the early speed had taken its toll, with Vocal Enforcer and Spring Ruler maintaining strong charges through the turn to close the break to

two lengths. Vocal Enforcer pushed through on the rail and won going away by two lengths in 30.39, with Spring Ruler nosing Uno Reltub out of sec-ond placing.

It was the 23rd win from 47 starts for the son of Black Enforcer and She’s Vocal, whose earnings are over $160,000 for owner breeders Rod and Peta Noden.

Topper’s Sandgroper AT MANDURAH on Friday night, the Linda Britton trained Our Topper made it five wins from his past six outings when taking out ‘The Sand-groper’. Our Topper (Big Daddy Cool - Miss Diaz) pinged the 490 metres boxes to lead but was quickly joined by Wicked Party from box seven.

At the 302 metres boxes leaving the back, Wicked Party had burst to a clear lead, with Our Topper a length away outside of Jake’s Brother. Wicked Party extended, opening a two lengths break through the ex-pansive turn, with Our Topper work-ing overtime in second.

The leader botched the home turn, drifting seven wide, allowing Our Topper to level-up and push past to lead. There was no coming back for Wicked Party, as Our Topper crossed the line a length ahead in 27.94, with Light Years Away rattling home for third.

The $3,750 first prize pushed Our Topper into double figure earnings, with a record of seven wins from 13 outings.

Hostess flies THE Maiden Series heats on Wednesday night look to have un-earthed a couple of handy runners.

Paul Stuart’s Funky Hostess flew around the Cannington circuit to re-cord a very smart 30.65 victory for the Closea Jorzac Syndicate. The January 2010 daughter of Path to Power and Runway Model was sent West on the back of some

moderate exposed Victorian form in races late in 2011.

Paul Stuart re-qualified the 31kg bitch at Cannington and she ran a solid second on debut the previous Wednesday. In a moderate field, Funky Host-ess was sent out the odds-on favour-ite and punters were counting the cash a few metres after boxrise.

A 5.69 opener saw the favourite well clear and she emerged onto the back with a commanding four lengths break. A strong sectional saw her enter the second turn 1o lengths clear in a express 19.01.

It was all Funky Hostess, who drove to the line a nine lengths win-ner over Reference and Miss Muza. SO SINFUL and Winter Breeze look to be Funky Hostess’ biggest dangers in picking up the double Maiden victory.

So Sinful for Glen Debski, was sent out the firm $2.20 favourite at her second race start and was quickly way from the inside draw to lead over Antun into the bend. The favourite left the paint through the turn allowing Antun to rail in the lead, with So Sinful a half length off to his outside.

So Sinful edged her way back to the front leaving the far side in 19.20, with Winter Breeze two lengths off the lead duo and closing. So Sinful worked three wide through the turn and straightened a length to the good of Winter Breeze. The daughter of Where’s Pedro and Real Macoy worked home the strongly for a length win in 30.74.

`It was a good run by Winter Breeze who is definitely knocking on the door for his first win, having re-corded his third placing from 12 jumps.

Aye Aye Captain was accompanied by Jordan Turnock for Joe Mulder’s photo shoot at Cannington last weekend. The Linda Brotton trained, Rob Crawford owned racer won by nearly nine lengths in 30.35.

Terry Erenshaw and Glen Graham kneel beside City Rumble, who began fairly and landed a Grade 5 at the city venue on Saturday night, running 30.57 for the 530 metres journey.

MIATA had to pull out all of her champion qualities to land The Liz-rene Classic over 715 metres in a photo.

Drawn in box one at the prohibi-tive quote of $1.10 and obviously favourite, the Paul Stuart trained stayer was away well to be third on the fence at the first mark, where Lady Grey held sway in 6.07 with Sisco Turbo sitting second.

Lady Grey led them around to the post the first time in 15.87 with Gold Affair Two by two lengths adrift, while Miata was a clear third on the inside but over four lengths down.

Miata started to improve her post in the back, where she came to the outside and swept around them to hit the lead and take the split in 31.12, but Thrilling Brat had cut loose and had moved to be second on her outer.

They singled out for a battle to the line, with Miata sticking to the inside and Thrilling Brat racing wide as usual, and they hit the line locked together.

After the Judge examined the photo, it was Miata by a half head over Thrilling Brat ($25.00), with Granduer ($14.00) getting home for third, three lengths in arrears.

Miata, a daughter of Bombastic Shiraz and Winsome Bluebird, is part owned by her trainer along with Nichole Wheeler.

The red fawn chaser recorded Best Of Night 42.39 at her first start on the track and took her career tally to 23 wins from 26 starts, the last 14 in succession.

Is Don, is good DON CHENDO beat a real high class field to land the Bert Bryant Memo-rial over 595 metres.

Coming from box two at $4.70, the son of Where’s Pedro and Kilby Supreme was out well and second on settling as they raced into the first bend, with Cloak Of Gold in charge.

Don Chendo railed through to hit the lead at the first mark in 9.24, with Cloak Of Gold on his outside a neck down, while three wide was Cousin Callum, just a half length away.

Don Chendo upped the tempo in the back and arrived at the back turn in 23.52 with a four lengths lead over Cloak Of Gold and Dyna Morris was on the improve along the rails, now third.

But Don Chendo was in no dan-ger of being caught as he raced to the Judge four and a half lengths clear of Dyna Morris ($4.80), while Lektra Jay ($6.70) was a length and a half away third.

Don Chendo clocked the BON 34.48 when making it three wins from six goes at the trip.

Trained by Len Ketelaar for Joy Davis, the black chaser has now started 68 times for 24 wins.

Proven double WAYNE VASSALLO and The McGrath Syndicate combined to land a double, with Proven Maddy being their first leg when she ran 29.79 to score in heat four of the Berwick Mazda Grade 5 over 515 metres.

The daughter of El Galo and Proven Lilly lined up in box three as favourite at $2.80 but missed the start badly before improving to be sixth at the first peg, where Chilly Babe was in control in 5.02.

Proven Maddy railed to third out of the straight before coming to the outside, and in a surge, she took over going through the second split in 19.18 before coming away to score by six lengths over Diamonds At Dusk ($15.50), with Black Saharrah ($4.40) a length and a half further adrift.

Proven Maddy has now scored in both her runs on the track, and her career tally now shows 11 wins in 18 outings.

PROVEN CHEVY completed the double for connections by posting 30.35 to score in heat five of the Ber-wick Mazda Grade 5 over 515 me-tres.

After lining up in box two at $6.10, the son of Pure Octane and

Proven Babe was fourth at the trip mark, where Lorita Bale led in 5.05.

Proven Chevy railed his way through the first bend and found the front into the back, running a second split of 19.30.

He held on in the run-in to ac-count for the fast finishing Dude Rancher ($33.00) and Jet Blast ($4.00), with a half length both ways being the margins. A winner of 21 of her 72 runs, Proven Chevy has scored four times in 19 ef fo r ts a t the t r ip .

Memorial win YOUNGSTER, Imry Bale finished best to take out the Bill Collins Me-morial over 515 metres.

Sent to box three at $5.50, the Graeme Bate trained chaser actually won the jump before having a great three-way battle to the first mark.

Spiral Ballerina kicked up on the inside to have her head in front in 5.07, with Imry Bale on her outside second and Allen Elroy out three deep was just a neck away.

Spiral Ballerina had the pace on in front and arrived at the second checkpoint in 18.92, with Imry Bale doing the chasing, two lengths down, and a further length and a half to Al-len Elroy ahead of Glen Gallon.

Imry Bale put it into top gear to claim the leader on the final turn, where he hit the front then came away down the running to score by four and a half lengths over Spiral Ballerina ($4.70), with David Bale ($8.00) a length and a half further afield.

Imry Bale, a son of Go Wild Teddy and Amity Bale, owned by

Paul Wheeler, recorded the new PB and BON time of 29.57 when making it three wins in four goes at the trip, as part of his 14 wins in 19 starts.

He’s no ham: Don Chendo doesn’t know how to run a bad race and pushed his stake earnings to $177K with a four and half lengths win in the Bert Bryant Memorial. Comfortable over the city sprint or middle distance trips, the son of Where’s Pedro and Kilby Supreme now boasts 24 wins on his CV and has claimed some decent scalps at either Sandown Park or The Meadows recently.

Allen Lawson is a dyed-in-the-wool Sandown specialist. Once again he came from near last on the first bend and overhauled Whispering Wind and Lektra Ottens to grab a last-stride victory in the Berwick Mazda Mixed 3rd/4th Grade in 29.85. It was his seventh win from 24 outings over the 515 metres trip and pushed his prizemoney total to nearly $100K.

The runt with grunt: It was reminiscent of the great tussle staged between Dyna Tron and Rewind in last year’s Hobart Thousand. WA’s champion, Miata and New Zealand’s Thrilling Brat battled out a thrilling finish in the $10,000 to the winner Lizrene Classic. The ‘Best from the West’, as broadcaster, Ron Hawkswell labelled the fawn flash, clung to the fence in the home straight, whilst the Kiwi, who appeared to have Miata’s measure on the home bend, drifted to the centre of the track. This slight detour by the stayer from the ‘land of the long white cloud’ gave Miata a slight advantage on the rails and she held on to score a narrow half head victory in 42.40, thus keeping her 14 consecutive wins sequence intact. It was the second year in a row that the Lizrene Classic has gone west, as Pillow Torque created a track record (41.64) when successful last year. I bet the New Zealand camp will be looking forward to the Sandown Cup series when the two stayers will meet again as they chase the Group 1 $100,000 first prize.

Jungle Hero, handled by Doug Condon, returned to the winner’s list by leading all the way to secure his second win over the 595 metres journey. Raced by the Morris clan and trained by Robert Britton, the son of Surf Lorian and Miss Chilli hit the line in 34.96.

“How good is this pup?” The Bate kennel gets a continuous supply of ready-made city sprinters from the Wheeler farm, and they certainly live up to expectations. Sprinters and stayers alike, these Wheeler line bred chasers often go on to bigger and better things, like winning Group races. Bate kennel co-foreman, Joe Briffa doesn’t normally get carried away with these promising pups but he did get excited after Imry Bale ran away with the $10,000 to the winner Bill Collins Memorial in a BON 29.57. A son of Go Wild Teddy and Amity Bale, Imry Bale has now won 14 of his only 19 starts and prompted his handler to give him the above wrap.

Green eyes: The lightly raced Emerald Bomba, who notched his fifth win at Rockhampton from only eight career starts with his latest effort in 30.51 on May 2. Pictured with the well bred son of Bombastic Shiraz and Rumble Amour is Dave Pollard.

GREYHOUND RACING in Queen-sland is yet again at the crossroads. Hope in recent years of an indus-try owned, stand-alone greyhound complex (without harness horses there) was high.

There was the promise by the controlling body known as Grey-hounds Queensland of a facility at Logan on Brisbane’s southside.

Then Racing Queensland pro-posed a track being built at Deagon on the northside of town.

That was to be a shared facility with the harness code.

Then Logan entered the fray again, for greyhounds only.

Now, well, we’re like Sergeant Schultz in that very popular televi-sion program, Hogan’s Heroes – we see nothing, we hear nothing and we know nothing. There’s a new Racing Queen-sland board headed by former Bris-bane Racing Club Chairman, Kevin Dixon.

Greyhound racing is represented on this board by John Falvey, re-cently the head of a group called United Greyhounds.

The new state government under Campbell Newman is yet to make any promises concerning greyhound racing.

Readers of this column will re-call that I mentioned last week that I have written to new Racing Minister, Steve Dickson, with an idea.

My suggestion to the Minister is to replace the current Albion Park greyhound track with a larger circuit.

I would like to see it be the spit-ting image of the recently recon-structed Bendigo track.

I reckon with a ‘one turn’ track at Albion Park that we could run three Thursday nights per month there. Run one Thursday per month at Ipswich to cater for the grey-hounds that are better suited on a smaller circuit and keep the other racing days as a mixture between

Ipswich and Albion Park. I am yet to receive a reply from

the Minister to my suggestions, but have been assured by his office that my letter has been placed in the queue.

I’ll let you know if and when I hear back from the Minister.

One supporter… at least WIDELY TRAVELLED and experi-enced trainer, Geoff Allen likes my idea of making Brisbane’s main track a ‘one turn’ circuit.

“No other capital city on the mainland has that, and I was sur-prised when The Meadows was built that it wasn’t done as a ‘one turn’ circuit,” Allen said.

“Remember the glory days of Harold Park?”

“If Albion Park had a track like that for its main prizemoney meeting of the week, we would be the envy of the whole country,” Allen sug-gests.

And I agree with him whole-heartedly.

When we had the Gold Coast (Parklands) in operation until 2008, I often suggested that some Thursday night meetings should be run there for metropolitan prizemoney.

The various controlling bodies of the day wouldn’t come into the idea.

And the Gold Coast club wasn’t influential enough to get anything changed.

The late and great Queensland greyhound racecaller and media man, Mick Cox used to call the Lawnton greyhounds, which were daytime meetings.

In the late 1970s, following the success of the Gabba racing at night, the Lawnton club wanted to switch to night racing.

Cox thought it was a great idea and started, with the club, a cam-paign called “Let’s Light Lawnton”.

A steering committee knocked on the right doors, and guess what, they got funding for lights.”

Sky Channel and a few other things eventually killed-off Lawnton by 1995.

But lighting the track was a great idea when it happened.

And so is providing a ‘óne turn’ track in Brisbane right now.

Nobody is expecting miracles from the new Racing Queensland board overnight, but the need for a ‘one turn’ track in the south-east of the state is imperative.

Positive outcome THE NEXT feature event to be run at Ipswich will be just after this month’s Ipswich Show. Young Guns heats for grey-hounds up to 30 months of age are scheduled to be run over 520 metres on Tuesday, May 22, whilst the fi-nal, of $10,000 to the winner, will be a week later. Whether it’s Ipswich or any track, Young Guns races are always keenly contested and usually pro-duce a crackerjack field for the final.

Look at last Thursday’s race at Albion Park that was won by Cakes And Pies.

What a top field that was! Think what we like about the former Greyhound Racing Authority and Greyhounds Queensland boards about the lack of action concerning a new south-east Queensland race-track, but introducing Young Guns races was one thing they definitely got right!

Consider this It’s not hard to meet expenses, they’re everywhere.

AT BETCHOICE GARDENS last Wednes-day night there was a rare happening when two trainers had success with their respective chasers that carried parts of their surnames into the racing name. A daughter of Bit Chili named Jenni-fer Robbo is prepared by Eileen Robert-son, while Mr. Donaldson, by Big Daddy Cool, is trained by Troy Donaldson.

Jennifer Robbo is not quite two years of age but appears to have a bright future, with her first four starts producing two wins and this victory in completed in a slick 29.84 gallop. Boxrise in the Woy Woy Poultry Stake saw Jennifer Robbo well served from box four, however, it was the two widest drawn runners, Cypress Hill and Beejay Rowe that showed the superior early dash. Leaving the straight Cypress Hill ran clear before Jennifer Robbo worked into second spot and was stalking the leader as they went down the back. Approaching the home turn Cypress Hill still led with Jennifer Robbo looming large, and as they flattened out for the run-home, Jennifer Robbo drew to the front.

She then dashed away over the con-cluding stages to score by three and three quarter lengths, downing Cypress Hill and third placed El Sutro, who was a further three quarters length adrift. Jennifer Robbo (x Miss Sort) has been confined to the Newcastle venue at present, however, this 26kg chaser has that ‘real feel’ about her as being very suited to the Wentworth Park circuit.

Cypress Hill (Bombastic Shiraz x Cool Kiahni), trained by Kevin Smith, has had 15 career starts for a win and four placings, whilst the Tom Halley trained El Sutro has produced a win and four plac-ings from 13 starts to date. Man in black MR. DONALDSON grabbed his second career victory when a big winner of a 515 metres 5th Grade, clocking 30.11. Beginning smartly from box seven, Mr. Donaldson matched motors with Lek-tra Rice in the run to the first turn.

Lektra Rice held the fence and had a slight advantage over Mr. Donaldson, but once they headed down the back it was obvious the latter had the race in his keeping. Mr. Donaldson surged clear ap-proaching the home turn, and although

Lektra Rice tried hard he was no match for the leader. Down the home straight Mr. Donaldson skipped right away then passed the judge five and a half lengths ahead of Lektra Rice, with Swale third, a further three quarters of a length away. Mr. Donaldson (x Wild Rascal) has now had eight career starts for two wins and three placings.

Lektra Rice (Pure Octane x Miss Gabby) has notched five wins and 11 placings from 35 career starts for trainer, Terry Callen. whilst Swale (El Galo x Ve-locity Queen), trained by Peter Neilson, after nine starts has recorded three wins and five placings.

PETER NEILSON sampled success when Shak Attack led throughout in the Multicam Mixed 4th/5th Grade and clocked 30.09 when snaring her first race at the track in five appearances. When the lids rose, Shak Attack was well into stride from box five, with both Hamish Tanga and Baracus also well served. Leaving the straight Shak Attack took up the front running role with Baracus giving chase, and from the red box, Impe-rial Design took short cuts to give chase along the fence. And whilst Shak Attack was always travelling well, the immediate chasers wouldn’t drop off and kept the leader on his toes.

Turning for home Shak Attack kept finding plenty and at the judge was one and a half lengths clear of Baracus, with Imperial Design a neck away third. Shak Attack, by Big Daddy Cool from Miss Shak, carerr-wise has had 22 starts for five wins and five placings.

Baracus (Black Enforcer x Eve), pre-pared by Alexander Verhagen, has gath-ered nine wins and 14 placings from 34 career starts, whilst Imperial Design (Mandagery Man x Home Design), trained by Scott Kelly, has faced the starter 41 times for six wins and nine placings.

Page 14 - National Greyhound Form, Thursday, April May 10th, 2012 NATIONAL GREYHOUND FORM NOW ON SALE WEDNESDAY IN NSW - Distributed by John Fairfax.

Miata’s MIA’s THE LIZRENE CLASSIC was not as strong a field as I thought it would be, and I would think that was because of Miata’s presence.

However, having said that, it is possi-ble that the dogs that I thought might have been there had other more suitable engagements. Recent Group winner in Adelaide, Cousin Callum, although in fine form as a stayer, is an extremely good middle dis-tance galloper and he was tackling the Bert Bryant Memorial, which was being run over the 595 metres and for exactly the same money.

Adelle Bale was a reserve for the Bert Bryant, and had she been nominated for The Lizrene Classic, I think she most likely would have been a reserve there too.

Irma Bale is only a novice when it comes to staying, yet was engaged in the 650 metres Special Event at Warrnam-bool on Cup night, and Kiltanon Skye was also in that race, but both were defeated by another novice stayer, Yowyeh.

Atelier was also entered for that race but scratched, so I guess that was a bit of a moot point… still, he’s a high class stayer and he may be getting ready for the Sandown Cup. Recent Group 1 winner, Kiwi stayer, Thrilling Brat was one of the runners booked for The Lizrene, and I daresay his mission is definitely the Sandown Cup. Granduer was also engaged in The Lizrene Classic, as too was Double Jeop-ardy, who boasts a PB on the track of 41.84, plus some other up and coming stayers to make it an interesting test for Miata.

Still, with the red box, I won’t be sur-prised if she’s broken yet another track record! Tron’s future SEEING as the topic of the moment is Dyna Tron, at the time of writing he’s run his last race, and that was in the Group 2 Warrnambool Cup final. He finished fourth there to make his final tally read 61 starts for 31 wins and 13 placings and a whopping $519,753 in stakes.

That puts him in fifth place on the Australian stakemoney tally behind High

Earner, El Grand Senor, Radley Bale and Rapid Journey.

When one considers that Dyna Tron only turned three in February and was in really good form, a lot feel his retirement is a bit premature, especially with the $75,000 to the winner Harrison-Dawson coming up eight days after his swansong race.

That event is being held at Sandown over 515 metres, and those of us with good memories will recall that just six months ago that Dyna Tron won the Mel-bourne Cup there at that trip.

Who knows, there might be a change of heart; we can only hope! Bewdy Bert I DOUBT there’d be anyone anywhere who would begrudge Dyna Bert winning a Group race.

After living in the shadow of his litter brother, Dyna Tron, Dyna Bert scored his first victory at Group level by taking out the Warrnambool Cup.

Winding the clock back, Dyna Bert’s first taste of Group racing was in the WA Derby where he ran sixth, with Allen Elroy scoring.

He then made the final of the Group 1 Maturity, where he ran eighth to Sher-een Bale.

He then reached the final of the Group 2 Geelong Cup, finishing second to Dyna Tron.

Next, he ran third in the Group 1 Hobart Thousand and again it was his brother, Dyna Tron that scored.

Prior to the Group 2 Warrnambool Cup he was runner-up in the Group 1 Golden Easter Egg.

“Bert” has been a very honest chaser all through his career, with 18 wins and 23 placings in 53 starts and prizemoney now sits on a very healthy $205,363. A bit close YOU KNOW how I’ve been going on about names being a bit close, well, Dyna Bert just won the Warrnambool Cup, and victorious on the same card was Dyna Bernt. Okay, they might not sound the same, but it’s only one extra letter the difference. Getting close too CLASSY MALDINI, who chased Dyna Bert home in the Group 2 Warrnambool Cup, probably took that crown off that chaser as the State’s “most deserving of a Group win” dog.

He made the final of the Group 2 Great Chase at the end of last year and finished seventh to Fully Advanced.

He followed that up by being runner-up in the Group 3 Devonport Cup to Re-wind.

He then made the Group 2 Warragul Cup final, running second to Stagger.

He followed that up with a third in the Group 2 Bendigo Cup to Peggy May.

I think where he’ll get his best chance

at “Group Glory” will be in the upcoming Healesville Cup, having already posted some fast wins along the Don Road straight. Shortages AS I’VE mentioned before, I believe we’re going to have mass shortages within the next two years unless we can come up with a better idea ASAP.

It’s all very noble prolonging the life of our racing stock, and by putting on more and more meetings to cater for these dogs might be a great short-term concept, but it’ll kill this Industry off.

Quite simply, people aren’t breeding the numbers required to replace the dogs we need racing.

There is possibly an easy fix to this, and it goes along the lines of what we already have in place… GOBIS.

Make it worthwhile for people to breed and they will, and if that means subsidising costs, then so be it.

We’ve just jumped stakemoney up $6 million.

I’d like to see half of that going to helping the breeding industry get back on its feet, rather than throwing fistfuls of dollars at five year-old greyhounds that haven’t won in three years, or making winning one race the same as winning Tattslotto.

In other words, find the middle ground on the prizemoney and then use the rest to make sure we keep going. Such audacity I RECKON you can count on the fingers of one hand the dogs that have broken 30-seconds around the Cranbourne 520 metres trip. I’ll gladly stand corrected if that’s not exactly right, but breaking 30-seconds is definitely a rarity.

I guess that really makes Pororoca’s 29.68 track record look like an even more amazing run.

Anyhow, the brilliant Audacious Elle almost joined the elite list on Monday April 30 when she ran 30.00 to take out the Free For All.

The daughter of Bombastic Shiraz and Pure Elle certainly loves “Cranny”, as she’s never been beaten at the trip; hav-ing scored in all three runs there, and her most recent by nine lengths.

The Mick Fearnley trained sprinter has also posted some slick times at other venues, including 29.46 over 513 metres at Traralgon and 29.75 at The Meadows over 525 metres.

She’s also had a taste of Group rac-ing, having made the final of the Austra-lian Cup.

I’m pretty sure she’ll make more of those down the track and I’m tipping the Traralgon Cup might be one that’s on the cards.

And if she is set for that race then she must be one of the pre-post favour-ites, as she’s won eight of her nine starts at the Cup trip.

Two greats I WON’T get many arguments from too many people if I say that Australia has the world’s best racecallers. Those of us who lived in Victoria in the 60’s and 70’s had a choice of two of the best at the trade that there was.

If 3UZ was your cup of tea, you would have listened to Bert Bryant, and if you leaned towards 3DB, then you would have been listening to Bill Collins.

Both were great callers, and to this day are considered two of the best we’ve ever produced.

Anyhow, Sandown has honoured these two legends with races named in their honour, and for the first time, they’ve come together on the same program. The Meadows has its three races, The Temlee, The Rookie Rebel and The Zoom Top, as part of their autumn carni-val, and Sandown has followed suit (so to speak) with the Bill Collins Memorial over 515 metres, the Bert Bryant Memorial over 595 metres and The Lizrene Classic over 715 metres all on the same card. I would imagine this year, like in pre-vious years, fellow racecallers from Bill and Bert’s era will be in attendance at Sandown. Big debuts BENDIGO had three heats of a Debu-tants Maiden on over 425 metres on April 27, with the three winners all scoring easily.

In the first heat, Great Force led from pillar to post to score by nine lengths in 24.33.

An April 2010 son of Premier Fantasy and Imperial Jet, Great Force is owned and trained by Noel Jarvis.

In the second heat, Fremont Street, a son of Vee Man Vane and Katy O’Reilly, bolted in by 15 lengths in 24.05.

The June 2010 whelp is trained by Scott Stefanos for Brooke Mazzonetto.

Finally, in the third heat Sweet Galo led all the way to score by nine and a quarter lengths in 24.03.

Sweet Galo, a daughter of El Galo and Saint She Sweet, whelped in Decem-ber 2009, is trained by Yvonne Andres for Gary Ennis.

Should be an interesting final. Got a stayer? HAVE you got a stayer that you want to win a sprint race with?

Then the answer is simple, take the dog to Cranbourne and race over the 520 metres.

For as long as I can remember, stay-ers have always raced extremely well over the tough 520 metres trip, and I’d say hundreds of half-miler’s have scored there since the track opened.

I’m not talking about chasers that hadn’t commenced a staying career, I’m talking about dogs that had recent staying form, like in their last six starts and more than one run, that have dropped back and scored.

The most recent stayer to win there is the Mick Fearnley trained Alpe D’Huez.

He’d dropped back to sprinting to tackle the Warrnambool Classic before fronting at Cranbourne on April 30.

Lining up in box five in a Grade 5, the dual record breaker ran a very smart 30.35 to score by seven and a quarter lengths.

My guess is that the son of Bombas-tic Shiraz and Joop Muse will be back up to the longer trips again real soon, and I wouldn’t mind betting that a start in the Group 1 Sandown Cup will be consid-ered. Friday the 13th FRIDAY the 13th was a horror flick, some say it was scary, I actually found it rather comical.

I guess the original had one thing going for it; it had Kevin Bacon in the cast.

Anyhow, it was popular, so they made more of them.

Friday the 13th is considered a bad luck day in some circles, to me, it’s al-ways been a lucky day.

I reckon I got the biggest Quadrella I’ve ever won on Friday the 13th.

Plus for whatever quirky reason, my

dogs always seemed to race well on that particular day. Good luck, bad luck or whatever, if you fear that day there is a name for it, and it’s “Paraskavedekatriaphobia”. Anyway, Friday the 13th proved to be unlucky for a few greyhound folk, as there seemed to be a spate of injuries on a provincial track on that night. Was it the dark side at work? Perhaps so, but it seems similar problems, although to a lesser extent, occurred the following week too. I will point out that the following week after that and everything seemed back to normal. Maybe it was just one of those cases of “You really can’t help bad luck”. Some logic I WAS amusing myself with some of the things that are said by those not having much success with their dogs.

Blaming the grading for your dog being beaten 10 lengths in the slowest race on the card is just plain ridiculous, and even moreso if the race happens to be a Tier 3 event.

The logical explanation is the dog is just too slow.

However, it may have met interfer-ence in the run.

In that case it’s usually the box that is blamed for that, isn’t it?

A dog in trouble is in that predica-ment because it had a poor draw, and if it gets into trouble when it has a good draw, it’s some other dog’s fault, right?

In fact, I really tire of excuses, ex-cuses, excuses.

Because time and again we see dogs that win from bad boxes, or come from behind and work through a field or just plain do it the hard way, whatever that is.

And do you know what? Most of those have ability. The other major gripe is that the “big”

trainers win all the races. Why? Maybe because this is how they earn

their living and realise that the harder you work the more likely you are to be suc-cessful. And success really does breed success, as many who have risen through the ranks will tell you. Knees up I CAUGHT UP with Australia’s leading trainer, Graeme Bate to see how he was going after his recent knee surgery. He told me he’s coming good at last after a setback, where his knee devel-oped an infection, resulting in more sur-gery. He’d been home from hospital for five days when I spoke to him, and it was the first day he’d been able to stand on it. We all wish him a speedy recovery. Your Say Malcolm Hirtzel on the blower with, “Regarding that story you did with dogs with similar names, we had Sheylea (pronounced Shay Lee), and I see up in NSW there’s a bitch racing called Shaylee (pronounced Shay Lee).” I guess we’re lucky yours is retired, eh? “Three Bee-Oh” asked, “Did you see what happened on Friday the 13th?” Yes I did! “Nosey Parker” asked, “Why on Earth would they want to retire Dyna Tron?” Perhaps the stud carrot is bigger than the race carrot. “Spot On” bemoaned, “I agree with you about people who have no manners, “please and thank you” seem words from a bygone era.” Ain’t that the truth. This week’s Teaser AN EASY one for you this week; is it pos-sible to win more than one Maiden? Last week’s answers 1. Fine Carousel 2. At The Helm 3. Our Daisy 4. Brumby Lad 5. Ace Hi Rumble 6. Deception Bay 7. Bordain 8. Compacto

Fractures I have recently attended the world veterinary conference in the UK.

Fortunately for them, the veterinary profession seems to be doing much better than the wider European community. It was certainly the largest gathering of vets I have been amongst, and we were dispensed information from some of the world’s most prominent academics. The conference provided many different ‘special interest’ streams, and obviously my main area of interest was canine orthopaedics and rehabilitation. Indeed I was so intrigued by a master class in rehabilitation that I decided to attend the lectures. We had a series of lectures from a United States “expert”, Dr. Van Dyke, who was introducing us into the new discipline of rehabilitation. She spent the four hours teaching us to how use an ultrasound, contractor, magnetic field and laser. I believe that Dr. Jim Gannon gave the same series of lectures in the early 1970’s, so it is comforting to know we are at least up with the rest of the world, if not a little bit ahead. Apart from these talks there was

much discussion on the trends of fracture treatment. In the 1980’s and 1990’s the philosophy with treating broken bones was rebuild them perfectly and then screw them together tightly with as much stainless steel as possible. There has been a significant drift towards a much less invasive approach… I call it the Australian way… ‘near enough is good enough!’. The academics who have tried all methods, and have studied them, are now recommending a functional, rather than a rebuilding approach to healing. They have observed that pedantic rebuilding of bone fragments can be slow-healing without any great benefit to the long-term result. I have certainly observed this many times in my own career, for example with broken metacarpals of the left front foot. As a young vet in the 1980’s it was

recommended to plate and screw them, and most healed very well, but usually with complications of stiff toe joints and long recovery time. I then took the advice of one of my (much) older colleagues, Dr. Peter Yore from Newcastle, who encouraged me to allow them to heal in a plaster cast, and I was amazed how quickly and how well they healed without my surgical intervention. Now, after 20 years, I have discovered that it just wasn’t my surgical skills that were to blame! There is no question that plates and screws still have a significant role to play in repairing fractures, especially long bone fractures. The days of surgeons ogling over beautiful post-operative radiographs are behind us. It is important to stabilize the fracture and allow healing to occur, but if the leg is correctly aligned the bone will heal much quicker, if small fragments of bone are not disturbed within the fracture site.

NO, not really. Allan Ferguson’s Beyond Brooklyn

had to endure a pre race vet check before she was allowed to take her place in the fifth race at Warragul’s Tuesday night meeting on May 1.

It’s happened before and on this oc-casion the vet in charge pronounced the white and black bitch fit and the Briagolong kennelled sprinter took her place in the Mixed Grade 4 & 5 460 me-tres event.

A slick 24.74 BON winner on her home track at Sale two weeks earlier, the well bred daughter of Where’s Pedro and Avon Lyla May stepped out quickly from the cherry alley and was never headed, clocking another BON performance in 25.95.

However the 29 months old speed-ster was required to confront the vet again after her four lengths plus victory, where the canine doctor discovered that she was in fact in season and was handed a 28 stand down period.

But there’s more, the vet was also instructed by the stewards to facilitate a sample from Beyond Brooklyn and the bitch had to undergo a squat for the silver ladle.

Then on the same evening, but about three hundred kilometres away at Hor-sham, the pre race antics of Dungey Bale necessitated the second race being held up for five minutes while the youngster was given a pre race vet check, similar to what occurred with Beyond Brooklyn.

The first starter, raced by Paul Wheeler and trained by Graeme Bate, is one of the first of Dyna Lachlan’s progeny to hit the tracks.

The fawn and white 20 months old puppy apparently put on a performance on arrival at the boxes and according to the Stewards Report text “was in substan-tial pain for approximately one minute”.

NGF’s mail is that the playful tail wag-ging belied his demeanour and the young-ster put on a real performance, similar to a new kid going off to school for the first time.

“He barked at attendants, squealed even gave the impression he was badly lame with pronounced limping”, a source told OTL, and Sky Channel’s vision cer-tainly backed up those views.

It was a real tantrum.Once again the sports animal medical practitioner gave him a through once over and declared fit to participate in the 410 metres Maiden event.

All’s well that’s end’s well and the 32.4 kg shot straight to the front and opened his racing career with a 23.61 victory.

The silver ladle was also produced at the Wimmera venue for the youngster but OTL was not privy as to how the preco-cious pup performed for this ritual. Hot times READERS who like to keep abreast of record runs should take note that two track records were lowered on the week-end.

The Gardens 600 metres benchmark was lowered to 34.40 by Cawbourne Haze last Friday evening..

A blue and fawn bitch, Cawbourne Haze is raced by Michael Eveleigh and trained by Ron Bell.

A competitor of 35 races, the daugh-ter of Knocka Norris and Cawbourne Smokey has won ten races and apart from her latest record outing, has gone under the 30.00 second mark at Wen-tworth Park.

The John Burow owned and trained Spin A Yarn was the other record breaker.

Trained in the Western District at Penhurst, Spin A Yarn, a fawn daughter of Talk’s Cheap and Hi Hopes Barbie, lowered the Mount Gambier 400 metres record with a runaway nine lengths win in 23.16.

A winner of four races at the South Australian venue, Spin A Yarn has also scored at Warrnambool and Horsham. Happens in threes FINLEY’S Peter Dundon is used to acci-dents. He runs the local panel beating shop. But I reckon even he wasn’t prepared for what eventuated over the past week. The likeable bloke travelled down to Sandown Park last Thursday night with half sisters and kennelmates Stetson Donna and Stetson Lily, the former last year’s Macro Meats Laurels winner. Unfortunately, when bringing Stetson

Lilly onto the track for her engagement, Dundon slipped on the wet grass and broke his leg in two places. Pins and a plate were inserted in his left leg in a lengthy operation at Vimy House and as you could imagine, he’ll be off the racing scene for quite some time. But that wasn’t the end of Pete’s bad luck. Both bitches will join their trainer on the sidelines after veterinary checks re-vealed that Stetson Donna was found to have a broken toe after her Thursday night run. Stetson Lily, who just failed to grab Jungle Hero over the 595 metres trip, buttered up at The Meadows on Sat-

urday night and finished a disappointinglast behind Adulterous. Sadly, “Lily” dropped a back muscleand will be confined to her kennel for aslong as her trainer is hobbling around oncrutches. Best wishes on your recoveryPete from all in the greyhound industry. Contacts IT’S all official now.

Now that’s the real Hannie Bale. A steady 30.21 winner at The Meadows on April 21, the outstanding sprint prospect stepped up to tackle a Free To All field at the Broadmeadows venue on the weekend and promptly gave her more fancied rivals a through thrashing. Breaking quickly the daughter of Go Wild Teddy and Dyna Celeste was never threatened and hit the line in a sizzling BON and PB of 29.88. Hannie Bale was considered very unlucky in the recent Group 3 Launching Pad and was hit with everything but the kitchen sink when she made the Bendigo Cup final on April 8. With just 15 runs under her belt and a 29.32 PB and BON win at Sandown Park to her credit, this brilliant bitch has the potential to be one of the real finds of 2012.

ZOOM ZOOM. Two champion racing animals meet for the first time. Greyhound racing’s Miata and possibly the best racehorse in the world, Black Caviar. Pictured with the champions are Paul Westerveld, Paul Stuart, David Hirst and Peter Moody. Now if photographer Clint Anderson can get a couple of autographs plus a paw and hoof print, this photo may be worth some big bucks later on. I reckon even without the “john henrys”, the pic is one of the all time greats of both racing codes. Anyone interested in obtaining a copy from Clint Anderson can make contact through Blue Stream Pictures.

THE SECOND ROUND of the williamhill.com English Derby got off to the best possible start for the Irish at Wimbledon on Friday night, as we had four winners, and the fastest of the night was the Dolores Ruth trained Razldazl Bugatti, as he took the final heat in 28.45.

It completed a double for the Rathangan kennel, as she also won with Razldazl Rioga, and the other Irish win-ners were Ruthless Man and Tinas Nova.

There was no luck for the Irish in the opening heat, where Rockview Head was out of contention on the opening bend and, despite running on strongly, failed to qualify.

Victory went to John Gardner’s Coolavanny Bert (Wheres Pedro x Mer-cury Queen), which flew to the bend and led Mill Maximus by three lengths down the back.

He went on to win by one and a half lengths in 28.64, with Mill Maximus just holding the fast finishing Taylors Cruise by a short head.

There was much better fortune for the Irish in heat 2 as Dolores Ruth’s Razldazl Rioga (Brett Lee x Razldazl Pearl) made one of his flying starts and had the race won in a few strides.

Micheal O’Muircheartaigh’s Laurels winner immediately moved across to the

inside and led by four lengths into the back.

He maintained his gallop all the way to win by five and a quarter lengths from Farloe Iceman in 28.54, with Farloe Mys-terio three parts of a length third. The Irish dominated the third heat, but it was the outsider of the pair that led them home, as John McGee’s Ruthless Man (Top Honcho x Hillcroft Josie) broke well and just took the bend from Lenson Ginger.

Shelbourne Geoff was a well placed third into the bend but took a bump and dropped back to fourth.

As Ruthless Man raced into a clear lead down the far side, Shelbourne be-gan to improve and went second on the final corner.

He flew up the straight but failed by a length to catch Ruthless Man in 28.54, with Lenson Ginger over three lengths back third.

After a disappointing first round run, defending champion, Taylors Sky (Westmead Hawk x Rising Angel) opened his account for the 2012 at the odds of 1/4 in heat 4, but one would have to say that it was a slightly below par effort.

He came away well but was only third to the bend, as French Blue set the pace from Farloe Luigi.

Taylors went second on the bend and disputed at half-way.

He then gradually eased ahead to win by two and a quarter lengths from the fast finishing Westmead Adonis in 28.81, with French Blue a similar dis-tance third. Tinas again PJ Fahy owns Tyrur Justin, who main-tained Irish interest in heat 5 but he again failed to deliver after leading for much of the journey.

He broke smartly and led Bucks Blade by two lengths down the far side.

He was still two in front until running very wide off the final corner, and this allowed kennel companion Bucks Blade (Droopys Scolari x Mottos Dawn) to go on for a length margin over Tyrur Justin in another time of 28.54, with Droopys Lorenzo three parts of a length third. Again no Irish trained runner in heat 6 and here the fast start of You Mind Me (Bit Chili x Miss Shauna) settled it.

He was clear around the bend and was never threatened as he came home almost two lengths in front of strong finishing Go Go Sonic, with Longwood Days claiming third place.

The third Irish winner of the night arrived in heat 7 where Sean Muldoon’s Tinas Nova (Big Daddy Cool x Sunny-side Tina) quickly assumed control and

was never troubled. After a fast start, Tinas Nova was

clear of Farloe Ironman around the bend and raced on independently to beat that rival by two and a half lengths in 28.59, with Bit View Micko three and a half back third.

The fourth of the Irish winners came in heat 8 when Razldazl Bugatti (Brett Lee x Razldazl Pearl) shot out of the five box and sped to the corner ahead of Castlebride Dan.

The other Irish challenger, Tynwald Bolt made a complete mess of the break and never figured.

But Razldazl Bugatti went from two in front around the opening bend to four by the back straight and that settled it.

He eventually won by four and three quarter lengths from Brinkleys Pearl in a fastest of the night 28.45, and it was half a length to Castlebride Dan in third. Ruled out by stewards STEWARDS yesterday announced that Irish challenger, Burst Of Magic would not be allowed to run in Saturday night’s heat 13 following a first round test prov-ing positive for steroid.

His defection means that fancied Irish runners Razldazl Jayfkay and Droopys Jet will have only three rivals and trap four will be vacant.

Talking Greyhounds I’M IN BUSINESS stamped herself as a genu-ine Wagga Cup contender next month with a scintillating win in the TAB Number 1 Final at Wagga on Sunday night.

I’m In Business ($7.90) overcame the five alley and jumped to the front to show them a clean set of paws in an eye-catching win.

The victory continued a good run recently enjoyed by Wagga trainer, Peter Dooner.

Doubles were the order of the night, with both Henty trainer, Dan Walker and Wagga’s Gary Mitchell leading in dual winners.

Walker found success with the well sup-ported Gift Of Time ($1.80) and Secret Sense ($9.20), while Mitchell would have to be the in-form trainer at Wagga at the moment, saluting with Flash Are ($2.60) and Jaz’s Adder ($2.20).

Other winners on the night were Major Quake ($15.90) for Wagga mentor, Mat Ad-ams, whilst Victoria’s Graeme Radford made the trek to the MIA and headed home with Jay Jay’s Girl ($3.10) an impressive winner.

Jindera trainer, John McClelland joined the winners circle with Creative Pip ($2.50) and another Jindera trainer, Brian Lord took out the Free For All with Big Dude ($7.70).
