NOVEMBER 2018

“The local church is the hope of the world.” I heard those words spoken at a ministry conference about 20 years ago. The speaker communicated with passion the message that the local church is still the front lines of bringing the hope of Jesus to one person at a time.

I have always been inspired by those words! It’s the reason I believe so deeply in the ministry of Redeemer, and of every local church. I believe Redeemer can make an incredible difference in the lives of the people in Redwood City. I believe the people of Redeemer can take the hope of Jesus into their neighborhoods, places of work, and communities. I believe people who don’t know the hope of Jesus can be reached by the people of Redeemer. I believe God can use Redeemer to reach the next generation for Jesus.

Sunday, November 11 will be a special day at Redeemer. Between services the Fellowship Hall will become a “Café for a Day!” It will be a day of celebration as the people of Redeemer bring their pledges for our capital campaign Investing in the Next Generation. Every Redeemer household received a letter and pledge card in the mail. I hope that you will take some time to prayerfully consider how you might be able to give. Every gift matters! Loved and Sent: Helping people find their identity and purpose in Jesus.

As part of the Investing in the Next Generation campaign,

a prayer wall was constructed in the church foyer. The

initial use was for the Vision and Prayer night and for the

week of Morning Prayer. Feel free to use the prayer wall

in several ways:

Write out your prayer request and hang it on the wall

so others can pray for you.

Take a couple prayer requests home with you and

pray for other people – bring them back the next

week.

Stop in at church, grab a few prayer requests and pray

for them in the sanctuary.

While the prayer wall is available for all kinds of prayer

requests, we want to be especially mindful for praying for

people who are far from God, who don’t have the hope

and peace that comes through faith in Jesus. Please pray

Capital Campaign Update

October was filled with some exciting and powerful events at Redeemer as part of the capital campaign. A capital campaign is about a lot more than money – it’s about unity, vision, prayer, new experiences, and renewing our commitment to God’s mission in Redwood City!

Here are a few of the highlights:

The Family blessing night – over 70 people of all generations experienced using a family blessing bowl to share how God is at work in their lives, and to pray for one another! Families were invited to be a part of the 6-week Sunday night challenge – having a family devotion, using their blessing bowl, and joining in prayer.

Vision and Prayer Night – Over 70 people gathered in the fellowship hall for a night of music, vision, and prayer.

Prayer Wall - a new prayer wall was constructed in the church foyer for the Redeemer community to use to pray for each other!

Upcoming Campaign Events

Morning Prayer – every morning the week of October 29 – November 2 from 6:30-8:30 am people will be welcomed to stop in the sanctuary to pray.

Pledge Sundays

November 4 and 11 are pledge Sundays. Bring your pledge cards to worship and place them in the offering plates. We will keep you updated on the progress toward our goal of $800,000.

Sunday, November 11 –

Café for a Day – Celebration Sunday

Join us at church at 9:30 and 11:00 for celebration Sunday – and between services when the Fellowship Hall will be set up for a special breakfast and coffee hour!

RedeemerKIDS Sunday morning ministry is in full

bloom! Literally! You see, each Sunday we have been

growing and blossoming as we study the FRUITS of the

SPIRIT : Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness,

Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control ! We thank

God for giving us these gifts…and we pray that God

would lead us to share them with others! God will

certainly use these kids to change the world as they “color

it” with the love of JESUS!

RedeemerKIDS Junior Leads have been busy

preparing “exciting and engaging” large group openings.

We believe that God is using intergenerational leadership

to impact the lives of all ages at Redeemer! It is powerful

to witness God in action through our 5th grade through

High School age leadership on Sunday mornings! We are

blessed to have them—we are deeply grateful for their

commitment to show up and BE LOVE!

RedeemerKIDS recently hosted the “Family Blessing

Bowl Night”. Families that attended took home a

ceramic blessing bowl with hand painted stones, as well

as a 6-week family devotion challenge. We know that

families will discover God’s presence in their homes as

they take time to share around the blessing bowl

moments, open the Bible, have a devotion, and pray for

each other, as well as Redeemer’s current emphasis to

impact the next generation.

How beautiful to witness our families engaging with

their very own “next generation” right in the warmth and

security of their own homes!

We are already planning ways to continue to share the

Blessing Bowls with more families ---look for another

family event coming right away in the NEW YEAR!

we will not have communion on those days.

Scholarships for School of Young Leaders (SOYL)

$10,000 Bethany Menlo Park

The School of Young Leaders (SOYL) is a

collaborative effort founded by the CNH Mission

Agency, LINC Bay Area, and Bethany Lutheran

Church, Menlo Park. Our LCMS churches are

struggling in the midst of a culture shift, initiated by

worldwide change in communication created through

technology.

Young adults, young couples and families are not

coming to church as they once did. Thus young leaders

are missing from our churches, as universities try to

change attitudes and expectations from young adults.

SOYL was created as an intensive summer

discipleship program.

The first class of students were trained in the Summer

of 2017. They were trained in the New Testament,

communication skills and leadership to grow and

effectively share the Gospel. Nine students completed

the 2017 program and all 9 are working with a

Lutheran churches to bring the Gospel message to

adults in their 20’ & 30’s. Students pay 50% of the

needed training funds. The grant funds are for the

remaining needed funds as scholarships for students.
