● FOCUS: Give classroom teachers ideas to incorporate movement into their core content
Academic Accelerator - Sight Word ChallengesAsk for a list of sight words from classroom teachers.
Write one sight word on each 3x5 note card.
Have students work in groups of two or three.
Students collect a sight word card and can perform a pass for each letter of the word, or one exercise rep for each letter of the word, or high five for each letter of the word.
Sight Word Hunt - collect sight word card, to complete the card challenge find the card that has the first letter in the word (there are 26 alphabet cards spread around the perimeter of the room) flip the card and perform the movement. Now move onto the next letter in the word and find that card.

Academic Accelerator! Flash Card Fitness Math K-8
● Can be used for quick review of addition, subtraction, multiplication or division skills.
● Differentiate for student needs (cards with answers on the back, double or triple digits, different skill levels for different students)
● Can be done as a group if you do not have flash cards. Simply put the problem on a screen/whiteboard and count the numbers out together.
● Choose exercises that students have space for and can complete on their own (no partner or equipment exercises)

administered them (55%)● Noticed a decrease in frequent negative behaviors
after Academic Accelerators (from 25% to 10%)● Noticed students were significantly more frequently
focused after (increase from 10% to 55%) ● Overall effect of Academic Accelerators was positive

Academic Accelerator: Freeze! Use it in a sentenLanguage Arts 3-12
As a class, all students begin doing a list of exercises the teachers calls out: switching every 20 seconds.
Teacher yells, “Freeze” everyone stops.
The teacher calls out a vocabulary word.
Students raise their hand to use the vocabulary word in a sentence properly
The teachers calls on students to create sentences using the words.

Each student identifies the color on card
Perform the activity that corresponds to that color for 10 seconds

● Find a partner● Play rock paper, scissors● Instead both partners throw a number 1 - 5 using your fingers● Who ever can add those two numbers and call out the answer the fastest wins● If you don’t say the answer first, do 3 burpees

Academic Accelerator: Playing Cards: Suit Up for Mat -12
Teacher passes out 3 cards to each student
Perform the exercise based on the number on the card and the suit it belongs to.
Face Cards(A, K, Q, J): 10 repetitions
After performing the exercise,

Teacher gives each student a list of spelling words
Students get one partner
Partner 1 asks Partner 2 to spell a word without looking
If Partner 2 spells it correct, Partner 1 does 10 repetitions of an exercise

Academic Accelerator: All Around the World: Geogra -12● As a class use different movement
principles/concepts to move from one region to another region of the world.
● Separate your classroom into different parts of a map (regions being studied in the classroom)
● Play a game from that region in the world or area of study○ North America ○ South America○ Parts of the US etc.
