User Guide Introduction to System Manager

© 2014 Imagine Communications. Proprietary and Confidential. 6/5/2014 | Page 4

Introduction to System Manager System Manager is installed as part of the Nexio® G-Scribe™ installation. System Manager allows you to configure and review your video, audio, licensing and system settings that will be used by Imagine Communications products.

During installation of G-Scribe you provided initial settings such as using desktop video, GPIs, and audio capability. System Manager allows you to change those initial settings. For example, you can use System Manager to turn on desktop video, have a red background, and always be a top-most window.

You can run System Manager at any time to configure or review your settings. All Imagine Communications products must be closed when you decide to apply the settings.

To access the System Manager select Start > All Programs > Harris > System Manager > System Manager.

When you launch System Manager, none of the pages are open. Click a vertical tab on the left-hand side of the interface to reveal a page.

Select the GPU tab to monitor and configure your system GPU. See Configure GPU (on page 7).

Select the System tab to configure your multi-window preview settings, monitor low-level system files, and manage your serial number manifest. You can also configure the system watchdog. See Configure System (on page 9).

Select the Video tab to set up, enable, or disable the desktop video window. See Configure Desktop Video (on page 11).

Configuration Your GPU is automatically configured to behave optimally in most situations.

Figure 4: Configuration Tab

If you wish to customize your GPU settings, uncheck the Automatic Optimization checkbox in the Configuration tab. The Settings tab appears within the GPU page.

The Enable GPU Acceleration checkbox is checked by default, and should only be unchecked if instructed by your support technician or your dealer.

Settings The Settings tab appears when you uncheck the Automatic Optimization checkbox in the Configuration tab. You should not need to modify these settings under normal circumstances.

Figure 5: Settings Tab

The options in the Settings tab allow you to troubleshoot GPU-related issues and to improve GPU performance and appearance.

Analyze Field allows analysis of each field, and optimization of the graphic data transfer. Some configurations may see performance problems if this option is enabled.

The Do Not Multi-Sample option prevents the multisampling anti-aliasing method. Enabling this option allows the playing of 3D scenes that would otherwise play with better quality with multisampling applied.

Use the GPU Acceleration drop-down to enable GPU acceleration on the selected channels.

Caching textures in the GPU memory can improve performance. The optimal range is usually between 25-50% of the total GPU memory.

User Guide Configure System

© 2014 Imagine Communications. Proprietary and Confidential. 6/5/2014 | Page 9

Configure System Select the System page from the vertical tabs to monitor low-level system files and manage your serial number manifest.

System Watchdog By default, the system watchdog monitors the system desktop configuration and logs any changes that occur. It is possible for third-party software to change the system’s desktop configuration, which may affect output rendering.

Figure 6: System Watchdog Tab

Enter the number of seconds between each check of the desktop configuration. If you notice frame skips or other performance problems, you can increase this number.

You can also disable periodic checks by setting the field to 0. When set to 0, the desktop is only checked on system startup.

When Monitor Auto Detection is enabled, the system watchdog automatically detects when monitors are added or removed from the system, and when a change is detected you are prompted to reboot so the new setup can be applied. Auto detection occurs each time System Manager launches and each time you click "Apply" in System Manager.

Upgrade Manifest Manifests are the Digital Rights Management (DRM) mechanisms for license options on Inscriber systems. The Upgrade Manifest subtab displays the serial number for your system, and provides controls for viewing or activating your manifests.

4. To customize the scaling of the output within the window, check the Customize Desktop Video button. The Custom Desktop Properties window opens.
