Southern encaustic artist Dusty Griffith will debut a new body of his Zen-like contemporary works. Luminescent transformative earthy tones of embedded glass, plexi, old barn salvages and materials such as beeswax compose the platform of Griffith’s iconic sophisticated, spiritual style. Dusty Griffith has enjoyed curatorial and popular success in the United States since the late 1990’s. His work is a favorite among East and West coast collectors. Griffith’s work is included in prominent public and private collections, namely Saks Fiſth Avenue, Neiman Marcus west and east, e Ritz-Carlton Hotels, Four Season Hotels, e Inn at Blackberry Farm and others such as the Princess of Dubai, American actress Halle Barry and in the home of renowned designer, speaker and author Suzanne Kasler. To more fully express these philosophical ideals, Griffith strives for a purer strain of abstraction by distilling the picture plane into sophisticated com- binations of color and form. Indeed, Griffith’s artistic vision is likened to the geometric abstraction of the late California painter Richard Diebenkorn, beautifully combined with principles of color field painting as seen in the meditative work of Abstract Expressionist Mark Rothko. In each breathtaking composition, Dusty Griffith imbues the work with calming, meditative and atmospheric qualities. Geoff Mitchell’s new works titled Magic Lanterns will arrive and debut concurrent to Grifith’s new works. Mississippi born Geoff Mitchell is that anomaly who inhaled, observed and absorbed the eccentricities of the south, like Capote and Faulkner. Mitchell’s works bring together storytelling and mixed media, pulling in the viewer. Research on the term phantasmagoria inspired Mitchell to the “magic lantern” - the object - which was a type of very early image projector. Early 18th cen- tury images were painted onto glass plates and projected. Some skilled magic lanternists developed secret techniques to be used in their live shows titled Phantasmagoria - as to create an entertainment “seance” so convincing that many audience members took them as clear proof of an aſterlife. Collections also include Halle Barry, plus multiple network and film commis- sions and national and international museums.
