    Radio and television interferenceImportant: This device complies with part 15 of the FCCRulesu Operation is subject to the following two conditions:(I) This device may not cause hamTfijI interference, and (2)this device must accept any irrterference received, includinginterference that may cause undesired operation.The equipment described in this manual generates, uses, andcan radiate radio-frequency energy.     If necessary, consult your authorized Apple dealer or anexperienced radio/television technician for additionalsuggestions.     As you work with your Newton device, follow thesesa%uards to protect yourself and the device: Take cane not to break the glass screen. Don't drop the

    device. Don't subject it to any strong impact Don't be^ tempted to put it into your back pocket because if you siton it the glass may break. Always store the device in acase that has a stiff plate that can protect the screen. Don't*** press too hard on the screen when writing, drawing, ortapping buttons.

    ^ Keep the device away from extreme heat Don't leave iton the dashboard or in the trunk of a car or near a heater

    Don't leave the device anyplace that is extremely dusty ordamp. Be careful not to scratch the screen. Use only plastic-tipped pens intended for use with a touch-sensitive screen.Don't use ink pens or any other sharp object

    ^ Never leave the card slot empty. If you haven't put amemory or application card in it leave the plasticprotection card installed Turn off the device when you're not using it

    Tum off Newton only by using the power switch. Always tum off the device before changing the batteries.

    To avoid battery leakage or lost data, replace the batteriesas soon as they become weak. (See Chapter 23.) Qean the screen only with a soft dry doth. Do not usesolvents.

    Qean the painted surfeces only with isopropyi alcohol(rubbing alcohol) and a soft dry cloth. Do not use solvents. Keep the ports covered when you're not using thern.

    Writirtg: Correcting recognition mistakesThe text recognizer interprets your handwriting one word ata time by looking for the word in its word lists. If the wordisn't there, or if Newton can't understand your handwriting,Newton will interpret the word incorrectly.Follow these steps to learn how to correct a misinterpretedw o r d :

    I. If anything besides the Notepadis open, tap X to dose it '-g)1 Make sure the text recognizer is on. If itsbutton doesn't look like this, tap it to darken it

    If the list of corrections didn't open, tap twice on the wordagain, taking care to use a light touch, to tap in the same placeboth times, and to tap quickly.

    half as high. Put a full character s width of ace between words Also

    avoid extra width which can cause Newton to insert a tab. Write in straight lines When dotting your i s, keep the dot close to the i. Makesure it doesn t look like an accent mark When you cross t s, make sure you don t cross any other

    tall letters. Make the cross horizontal, not slanted. Don t scrunch words at the edge of the screen. Make parentheses bigger than tall letters. Don t go back to a letter you ve already written to

    improve it Don t pause for long in the middle of writing a word. To put a tab between columns, v^it for the text to be

    recognized, pause for another second, then skip somespace and continue writing.
