From the Principal

We are now taking enrolments for Prep in 2020, for children born between 1 July 2014 and 30 June 2015. This year, Mrs McDonnell and I

have been part of a regional K-2 Community of Practice and a by-product of this work is developing a closer working relationship with

local Early Childhood Education and Care providers, as well as reviewing our transition to Prep processes. Once we have set dates for

information sessions and transition visits, we will let you know what we have planned. In the meantime, please collect an enrolment form

from the office and provide us with your future Preppie’s details as soon as you can.

EVERYBODY COUNTS! EVERY DAY COUNTS! EVERY OPPORTUNITY COUNTS!

This week, we have had Parent/Teacher Interviews, trialling an online booking system for the first time. Although we have had a couple of teething problems, most of the feedback has been positive and this is likely to continue in the future. Please let us know what you think. We have the Goondiwindi Eisteddfod coming up and it has been great to see different performances practicing in front of an audience during our weekly Assemblies. Remember that the Department of Education legally requires a signed permission note EVERY time students leave the school. We have had some parents upset when their child has missed out on an event despite this requirement being communicated in Newslink, on the school sign, on Facebook, on the actual permission notes and frequent reminders on Assembly and by class teacher. NO NOTE, NO GO! Mrs Lou Cowley is taking a different career path and will be leaving our team at the end of the month. Her days will be shared between Mrs Jennine Craig (Tuesday) and Mrs Jan Campbell (Monday and Wednesday) for the remainder of the year. We will miss Mrs Cowley and wish her all the best for her new adventures.

Feeling festive? Goondiwindi’s annual Chaplaincy fundraiser – Christmas in July - will be held on 27 July so watch for details and talk to your friends about bringing a crew and supporting a great cause. Our next Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Meeting will be on Tuesday night (30th July) in the Library from 6pm. All welcome. Warm regards

Marni Morrison

Principal

A moment with Mrs Jenkins,

This week on assemblies we are looking at how bullying at our school is NEVER okay, and more specifically, "How to be an active bystander". Students in our school have a special superpower. We can stop bullying and are the most powerful people to do so! Bystanders have a lot of power in bullying situations. They can contribute, encourage it, or even just watch, which makes the bullying worse. By being an ACTIVE bystander, they can use their superpower for good! A group of active bystanders can make it clear that bullying is not okay. Some things active bystanders can do are: *Say “just stop it” *Say something to distract the bully *Challenge the bully (if you feel safe to) * Walk away, taking the person being bullied with you * Don’t give the bully an audience * Report it! * Support the person being bullied. Active bystanders make it clear that bullying is not okay and it’s definitely not cool. Remember to STOP, WALK, TALK! Last week we received notification that a student had a positive Whooping Cough test, please find attached to todays email The Letter of Advice we have received from QLD Health.
