CROSS COUNTRY RACE We are so proud of our runners who took part in the District Sports Cross Country Race in Reigate Priory Park on Wednesday: we saw fantastic individual performances from all of our pupils and the girls’ team came in second overall!

NETBALL “On Wednesday, a group of Year 5 children took part in a netball rally at Reigate Grammar School. We got certificates as we were awarded Team of the Day! Sami M and Hannah S also got best players of the court. At the end, we had cheesy pasta, biscuits and chocolate brownies to celebrate. YUM!!!” - Mel H and Hayley B, 5BU Thank you, Mrs Peach and Mrs Flint, for accompanying them!

BOOK DRAW To encourage our daily reading at Wray Common, we have been running our Library Competition. All those children who read 4 or more times a week were able to receive a ticket and enter the lucky book draw. The winners this time were: Imogen B 1S, Eleanor M 1W, Molly S 2V, Askira O 4P, Thora O 4P, Henry D 6E. Well done everybody. Keep reading!

YEAR 6 As part of our 'Human Being' topic, we have been looking at the effects of suspense and tension on our bodies. Year 6 have then incorporated these feelings and ideas into their writing. Have a read... “Running. Running. Running. I ripped through the shrubbery; thorns and brambles grasping for my ripped clothes like skeletal, bony hands. Eyes darting left and right, I searched for any signs of that she might have passed by here. Anything. Alacrity surged through my veins - the only thing keeping me going. Everything was blurry. I continued sprinting rapidly, branches whipping my face and tree bark grazing my arms as they pumped back and forth like a machine. The only sound I could hear was my own heavy breath-ing and the only thing I could feel were the thick beads of sweat running down my face before being blown away by the wind. Run-ning. Running. Running. Suddenly, my body lurched forwards, trip-ping over a thick tree root, before my chest slammed onto the dirt, knocking the breath out of my lungs and my head whacked into the ground, exploding a wave of pain inside my skull. Then eve-rything went black.” - Lucas D, 6E

HOCKEY “On Thursday, the Wray Common hockey team travelled to Surbiton to play in the Quik Stix Surrey County Finals against five other, mostly private, schools who came top in their areas. The tournament was very eventful as lots of matches were played. We had fun and Zachary’s tooth fell out! Before we started our first match, we warmed up and then it started to hail. Luckily, it stopped just in time for our first match which we won 2-0. We drew the next match 2-2 in which we were saved by Ben scoring in the last few seconds. After a series of matches, we ended up with 3 wins 2 losses and 1 draw. Unfortunately, Wray Common did not get through despite our best attempts. However, all of us worked very hard and played

    great hockey.” - Victor B and Luc L, 6E

RANGERS REPORT The Rangers this week have been taking part in egg and spoon races, playdough projects and parachute games galore! Please note that Camp Glide will be continuing as normal. We will be acting on advice from local and national governments and health experts. We are already promoting good hygiene in our settings.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE The Department for Education and the Local Authority are encouraging schools to follow the Public Health England guidance regarding Coronavirus and to remain open. PHE advise that in most cases, even if there is a confirmed case within the school community, closure of the school is unnecessary. We can assure you that in this situation we would take further advice from PHE to ensure the right proportionate local decision is made for our children, staff, parents and local community. On a daily basis, we are checking for updated guidance from the Government and PHE, which will continue as long as necessary and we will continue to update parents through Newsletter on Fridays, and other times as appropriate. It is important that we all do our best to ensure that our children’s education is disrupted as little as possible and as always, everyone should continue to promote good hand and respiratory hygiene. At Wray Common, we: educate the children as to why they should wash their

hands and avoid touching your (or anyone else’s!) eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands,

ensure that all adults and children wash their hands upon arrival within the building,

strongly promote and encourage all adults and children to wash their hands often with soap and water during the day, particularly before eating,

strongly encourage adults and children who may be prone to sneeze to carry tissues and use them to catch sneeze, then bin the tissue and wash hands,

strongly encourage adults and children to cough into arm or tissue,

do not, for now, shake hands, ensure, from next week, that children wash their hands

at the beginning of any after-school club. There are no plans to cancel or curtail anything, for example, Family Day Assembly, which is a hugely valued part of what we are about at Wray Common. Of course, as the context and advice changes, so might plans – but we will keep you up-to-date. Latest PHE advice is that if your child has a temperature above 37.8 or a new and persistent cough, your child should stay at home for 7 days. We ask you to follow this advice and inform us if this becomes the case. This advice, obviously, also applies to staff; any absence will be managed as best we can with the safety and education of your children as our top priorities. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

PIANO FOR SALE We are selling one of our pianos if any of you are interested. It is a Danemann, has been tuned regularly but is missing a castor. If you would like to come and have a look at it, please ring the office to arrange a suitable time.

LOST PROPERTY COME AND CLAIM YOURS!

We will be putting out Lost Property on Thursday 19th March so please do come and retrieve your child’s missing kit before/after you come into school for the family day assembly. Any items not collected by the end of this day will be sent for recycling.

COMPUTER ACCESS On Monday, we will be sending a question via Survey Monkey asking whether your child has access to a computer, laptop or tablet on a daily basis. We ask all parents to respond. This is part of our contingency planning in the event that we have to close the school because of Coronavirus.

Please also ensure that we have your up-to-date email

Here are 9 tips to get smart with children's devices. This poster is also avail-able to view in the Safeguarding section of our website. Click here to go to the website version.

    SUMMER FAIR

Can you help? It is time to start organising our main fundraiser for the year and we are looking for a few people to plan and coordinate this event. This could appeal to a small group of friends with children in the school. Perhaps you have a child in Year 6 and this could be a nice way to contribute to school and round off your time at Wray Common. Or it could be a way to make new friendships so please do put your name forward if you think you could help organise things. Please email: [email protected]

    WE NEED YOU!
