Eric AyersPresident WA Rangers Association. Welcome
I would like to thank all who attended our 1st regional conference held in Geraldton on 24 & 25 September, the effort to travel that members, sponsors and guests made was greatly appreciated.
The turn out of delegates was better than expected. The presentations, workshops and the awards Dinner were excellent and well received.
WARA set a new benchmark with this conference and showed that new ideas can be tried and be successful. This disproved any negative attitudes or comments we received prior to attempting to hold a regional conference.
As with previous events held by WARA, this last conference demonstrated the support and enthusiasm that the members have for this Association.
With the feedback and comments I received during and after the conference, I honestly believe that the respect that WARA already enjoys amongst our industry peers has been elevated to a new level.
Again, I would thank all who attended and my sincere thanks to those people who assisted with the organising and running of the conference.
I would like to say a special thank you to John Scotland and the City of Geraldton-Greenough for hosting the conference and the many hours that have been put into assisting with the organising of the conference.
As the newly elected President of WARA, I would like to thank all the members for instilling their confidence in me to lead this Association.
I have pledged to strive and achieve the best I can for WARA, but by no means do I confess to know it all. I will continue to learn along the way and our success will always be due to a team effort.
We are very fortunate that this Association has always attracted committee members who do care and gain a sense of achievement by developing avenues for professional development for all who work in Local Government Ranger Services.

Conference Newsletter
Hello everyone, after being jointly involved this year with Eric Ayres with regards to organising the very first West Australian Rangers Association country conference, with the theme of “Rangers”, “Regions and Diversity. I would like to mention a few thanks to all involved in this conference a great success. It is with great respect to Dave White whom arranged prior conferences. To Eric Ayres the new WARA President for organising all our sponsors and great guest speakers for this year’s conference, well done. Dee Rohan for her valuable commitment as treasurer and a very good friend, as well as Dene Lawrence our new Vice President, Paul Postma our Website Manager and Sharna Murton our devoted Secretary. I would like to say a very big special thank you to Samantha Tarling for all the work and effort in bringing a new purpose and drive to WARA, I am sure the commitment and vision will continue. The first WARA regional conference proudly hosted by the City of Geraldton-Greenough went beyond both Eric and my expectations, this years conference could not have been possible without the great support of Tony Brun the Chief Executive Officer and Ian Carpenter the Mayor of Geraldton-Greenough for allowing WARA the cost free use of the Queens Park Theatre and Queen Elizabeth 2 Centre. A BIG THANK YOU As some of you may know, both Eric and I have managed to gain a few more grey hairs this past year, which was every bit worth while and the feedback is much appreciated, thank you. I was very proud to have been issued a certificate of appreciation from WARA, I truly thank you Eric (it’s a joke) I hope the future will hold many memorial occasions and stress the importance for all members to get on board the committee and have a go, as they say you got to “walk the walk or talk the talk”.I believe WARA will go places in the near future and will lead the way for major changes and new directions. I would like to thank our local (Geraldton-Greenough) sponsors for their donations for the raffle to raise monies for the Children’s Starlight Foundation and they are; • Eagle Vale Olives• Mitchell & Brown• Harvey Norman• Novus Auto Glass• The Good Guys I would like to thank the following businesses for their service during this conference and it was very much appreciated.• Adam’s Catering for the wonderful food and very friendly staff, not to mention the amazing table arrangements for the annual dinner • Jason (the boss) Geraldton Beach Hotel, thanks for looking after us • Aaron Wilcox, Brad Worth and the staff from the Queen Park Theatre • Rosetta Finlay from the Queen Elizabeth 2 centre I think I should mention my runner and support for this event young Daryl “Daggs” Park, thanks mate CheersJohn ScotlandCoordinator of Compliance & LogisticsCommunity Law & SafetyCity of Geraldton-Greenough
