I would like to take this opportunity to extend a very warm welcome to all our new students, their families and members of staff and welcome back to all our existing students and their families. The dedicated staff has spent lots of time during the holidays preparing for the 2016 school year. A special welcome to our new Kinders who started on Monday 1 st February. There were plenty of smiles and laughter at the end of their first day which ensures a smooth start for all. We have a number of changes to our staff team this year. Mrs Paula McEwan is our new School Administrative Manager (SAM). She brings a wealth of experience and will be a real asset to our school. Mrs Kate Marshall has returned from leave and will be working three days a week and will be job sharing with Mrs Michel; Miss Harrison will be teaching four days a week and will be job sharing with Mrs Stevens; and Mrs Smith will be job sharing with Mrs Barrow who will be teaching 5/6 Sasson on Mondays. During the first few days of the 2016 school year the students were placed in their 2015 classes. The main purpose for this was to make sure everyone who we expected to be here was here, and to have a final look at classes. The students also enjoyed catching up with friends and teachers, writing about their exciting holidays, and revising the school rules and values. It was a great way to start a new year. The 2016 classes were formed last Friday. The school uses a number of criteria to ensure that the classes that are formed are in the best interests of ALL students. The executive and teachers spent many hours working collaboratively to place students in their 2016 classes which were finalised at the end of Week 1. We form classes carefully to ensure a spread of girls and boys with a range of learning abilities and social attributes and we take into account the social and emotional needs of all our students. Your child may not be in the same class as their best buddies this year, but you can use this as an opportunity to talk with your children about the wonderful opportunity to develop new friendships as well as building on existing relationships. Often we have information that parents are not privy to. We ask that you emphasise the positives, rather than focusing on the anxieties that may be associated with change. I am confident all of our students will have a terrific year of learning together with our fantastic, dedicated teachers. This year we have decided to name our classes based on the theme, National Year of Digital Technology. I have visited our 18 classes and I am pleased and proud to report that the students have all settled so quickly back into school routines. School Uniform Wearing the Kooringal Public School uniform is an honour and an expression of pride in our school. We have a policy which strongly encourages all students to wear their full school uniform, and it looks great too. Please make sure you wear your school uniform every day! School hats are an important part of our uniform. A reminder that the school’s Uniform Shop is run entirely by volunteer parents. Many of these parents work and fit the operation of the Uniform Shop around their work

Welcome to the 2016 school year! I would like to take this opportunity to extend a very warm welcome to all our new students, their families and members of staff and welcome back to all our existing students and their families. The dedicated staff has spent lots of time during the holidays preparing for the 2016 school year. A special welcome to our new Kinders who started on Monday 1st February. The 2016 classes were formed last Friday. The school uses a number of criteria to ensure that the classes that are formed are in the best interests of ALL students. The executive and teachers spent

many hours working collaboratively to place students in their 2016 classes which were finalised at the end of Week 1. We form classes carefully to ensure a spread of girls and boys with a range of learning abilities and social attributes and we take into account the social and emotional needs of all our students. Your child may not be in the same class as their best buddies this year, but you can use this as an opportunity to talk with your children about the wonderful opportunity to develop new friendships as well as building on existing relationships. hours and their children. Please be considerate of this as it is not a shop with paid employees. ‘Meet the Teacher Nights’ These information sessions provide parents with an overview of what the year will look like in terms of teaching, learning, themes, and expectations. Each stage will have a particular focus that the teachers will address on the night and general information will be on a hand out. These will be occurring in Week 3. Further information to follow in terms of dates and times. We hope to see you there! Contacting Teachers As you can imagine teachers are very busy people and while teaching a class they are often involved in before and after school meetings. It is therefore very important that if you wish to talk to your child’s teacher you contact the office to arrange an appointment time that is suitable for both you and the teacher. It is essential that teachers are prompt to class for the welfare of their class and an impromptu meeting just before class commences delays their teaching and supervision of all students. P&C Meeting The first P&C Meeting for 2016 will be held on Tuesday, February 16th, at 7:00pm in the Staffroom. Everyone is welcome! The Kooringal Public P&C work tirelessly for the benefit of the school and its students, organsing many fantastic events and ac-tivities. So why not get involved. Your participation is greatly appreciated, and it’s fun too! Reminder – No peanut butter or nuts at school We endeavour to maintain a peanut butter and nut free environment at school. We have a number of students who suffer with severe anaphylactic reac-tions to peanuts and other nuts. Please use other spreads on sandwiches and do not send nuts to school for snacks. Many thanks for your support with this important issue. We are all looking forward to a busy and productive year.

Band News - Welcome back! It is great to see all of our band students who have returned to school looking well and rested. I hope our students and their families had a wonderful time during the holiday break and are ready for another exciting year for band. I would like to begin by welcoming our new band coordinator and tutor, Ms Jenny Binovec to the Kooringal Public School Band Program. Ms Binovec is currently finishing up her tenure in Prague and will be beginning at KPS in Week 5. Ms Binovec has extensive experience conducting and teaching music all around the globe and has spent time running programs in rural and regional country schools. I look forward to the continued success of the KPS Band Program with Ms Binovec at the helm. In the interim, the Conservatorium have been able to employ tutors on a casual basis to take tutorials until Ms Binovec’s arrival. Our tutors for the next two weeks will be Olivia Grosfeld, Keith Griffen and Kaid Normington. Tutorials do start this week and the Conservatorium have ensured me that all students have been contacted in regards to the arrange-ments. If you have not been contacted, could you please let me know? As with previous years, our Junior Band members will be offered the opportunity to hire instruments From the Friends of the Band first and if there are any remaining instruments not allocated, concert band members will be able to hire them. Concert band members who do not have their own instrument or have not been allocated an instrument from KPS can hire one from the Conservatorium of Music. If you are a concert band member and require an instrument can you please let me know as we do have some instruments available? As junior band are still waiting for their instruments to be allocated, there will be instruments made available for tutorials for the next two weeks (unfortunately these will need to stay at school). With the change of tutors, there will be a period of adjustment; however, I am confident that we will set-tle into a normal routine very quickly and we will be preparing for the year’s events ahead (I am looking forward to another great trip to the Sydney Festival this year). If you have any queries, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to seeing you all throughout the year. Tim Harris

Canteen News Welcome back and welcome to any new families. To introduce myself, I am Carol the new Canteen Lady, with two kids that go to this wonderful school. I am employed by Kooringal Public School P&C as Canteen Manager. This means I am employed to run the canteen; rosters for volunteers, ordering, menu planning, food safety, coordinate with school and P&C and more. As a P&C operated canteen we rely on much needed parent volunteers to operate, without volunteers the canteen cannot do so. Kooringal Public School Canteen has its own open facebook page, this is used to post pictures, specials and general information.

Our canteen operates 4 days per week 9.00am to 2.30 pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday's.

If you are able to volunteer in the canteen please complete the below form and return to the money box at the school office or contact myself on my mobile 0412536798. Every little bit helps out our school can-teen. The canteen is a great way to meet new people and get involved with the school community. Kind regards Carol Elliott, Kooringal Public School Canteen Manager --------------------------------------—————————————————————–—--------------------------------- Kooringal Public School Canteen Volunteer Details.
