I am very pleased to announce that the Environmental Team have earned two gold stars

for the school’s ClimateCam plaque. The plaque is displayed in the school’s front office.

Peter Jones from the Educational Wetlands Centre presented the stars during our school

assembly this week.

The Environmental Team have been using their critical thinking skills to work out how to

make our school community more environmentally sustainable.

Along with Ms Wong, the team developed the school’s Environmental Management Plan.

The plan helps guide what environmental projects they will participate in and reflect on

once completed.

The Environmental Team decided to work on recycling; reducing the amount of waste the

school produces and increase the school’s recycling capacity. The students have

conducted waste audits to see how much and what types of rubbish we make. To

encourage their peers and families to be more environmentally friendly the students held

a waste-free lunch challenge for several classes, with the hopes for waste-free lunch boxes

to become regular practice. The Environmental Team identified other recycling that the

school is already doing, including paper and cardboard recycling as well as recycling our

food scraps. A huge thank you to Mrs Newell and her students, your commitment in taking

care of the worm farms and the collection of plastic and cardboard drink containers to be

recycled instead of being thrown into landfill, is greatly appreciated.

Congratulations to Metford Public School’s Environmental Team. Your commitment,

respect and responsibility to our environment is commendable.
