Newsletter Term 1 Week 2 2018 Principal: Lisa Crawford
Welcome back to what I’m sure is going to be another fabulous year at Hobartville PS.
This newsletter is published every fortnight online on the school website, on our Facebook page and it will also be published
through the Dojo app. This will be the only printed newsletter for the year. It also includes some very important notes which
need to be returned to school as soon as possible. There will be a reward for the first
class to return all notes back to school in the categories of Support Unit, K-2 and 3-6.
School Leaders
Our School Leaders for 2018 are Captains: Layla and Oscar, Vice Captains: Naomi &
Ambrose, Prefects: Grace, Jasmine, Jake and Lachlan. We wish them the very best of
luck in their roles as School Leaders and wish them well at the Leadership Camp,
supported by our P&C in Week 3.
Our school is using ClassDojo!
This year we are using ClassDojo in all Stages to encourage important skills like working hard and participating. We will also
use it to communicate with you: we can instantly share messages, updates and photos from class. It will also be an easy way
for you to get in touch with your child’s classroom teacher.
We would like all families to join us and sign up for ClassDojo! You can use it on any device: it is a simple, free mobile app
for iOS and Android, and can also be used from a computer at: www.classdojo.com
We will be sending home further instructions and passwords for you to have access your child’s ClassDojo.
Swimming Carnival
Tomorrow is our Hobartville PS Swimming Carnival. All children in Years 3-6 are expected to attend the day whether
competing or not. There will be fun activities throughout the day for non swimmers. Also any child turning 8 in Year 2 can
attend with the permission note. Please don’t forget to bring pool entry money with you on the day.
Permission and Information Notes.
This newsletter will contain the “All in One’ Permission note which needs to be returned asap, Anaphylaxis important
information and information about our Meet the Teacher BBQ. These notes will not be re printed, however will be placed
on the website, Facebook and ClassDojo. If you are not on Facebook, all recent posts also appear on the school website.
Parent Information and Communication
We will be having fortnightly ‘Coffee and Cake’ sessions on Tuesday mornings where parents and staff can catch up in an
informal setting and find out what is happening at school or ask questions. Everyone is welcome to attend.. The first one is
9am on Tuesday 13th February in the Library.
We will also have a ‘Meet the Teacher BBQ’ on Tuesday 20th February starting at 4.30pm. Please see attached information
further in the newsletter for both events.
Please remember to see your child’s classroom teacher if there is an issue or you have concerns. The next step is the stage
supervisor. The earlier we know if something is of concern to you, the quicker we can work together to fix it.
We are looking forward to a very busy and rewarding 2018 school year…. Lisa Crawford

Tough times for our community
During the holidays, one of our children’s
father passed away. It has been an
extremely difficult time for him and we all
support him as he settles back into the
school routine.
We also had a scare last week when
another of our students had a severe
reaction to an anaesthetic. Thank
goodness that everything ended well and
she will be returning to school in a couple
of weeks.
Times like these are incredibly stressful
for not only the families involved, but also
our entire school community. We think of
everyone here all the time, not just in the
school hours.

An important requirement of School Opal is the need for students to Tap On and Tap Off when they travel to and from school.
Opal data gathered by tapping on and off is used to determine demand for bus services.
If students don’t Tap on and Tap off, services may be cancelled or reduced due to the lack of recorded patronage. With this in mind, we again ask for your assistance in reminding your students that tapping on and off at the beginning and end of each trip is one of the conditions of using a School Opal card. This in turn helps us ensure we are able to provide the appropriate level of service to your students.
To assist the schools, Busways is developing a campaign to further promote and encourage the use of School Opal. We will also continue to conduct boarding checks on School Opal cards over the coming months. Students without an Opal Card will be given a brochure to take home identifying how they can
get an Opal Card.
Please support Busways staff with afternoon boardings and checks to ensure minimal delays to bus departure times and demonstrate a united front to students on bus travel and Opal Card use.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
This email has been sent by Busways from an unattended email address.
Please direct all School Opal Card and bus timetable inquiries to 131500.
For school bus service issues contact [email protected] or your local Busways depot.
