Do you know the Long Spelling Right After Short Vowel

spelling rule?

The students in Year 1-6 have been learning or will be re-

visiting the LSRASV rule.

LSRASV—ge/dge

Does it have 1 syllable

Does it have a short vowel sound

Is the short vowel sound next to

the /j/ sound?

If yes then use the long spelling for /j/ = dge

Eg

bridge, ridge, fudge, lodge, cage, bulge, sage, rage

This term for Integrated Studies we will be learning about

Democracy, why we have rules and laws and what the

responsibility of the different levels of government in Australia

are.

This will tie in with the 5/6 camp and their visit to Parliament

House in Canberra.

Thus far students have explored rules and laws. It was

interesting to learn about wacky laws from around the world.

Next students will move on to exploring what is a country and

what are citizens. By the end of the term we will have created

our own country and citizens complete with political parties

and participated in a vote for the new Prime Minister.
