It has been a big week at Toronto Adventist Primary School and one of the highlights was definitely the ex-cursion to Blackbutt Reserve. Unfortuantely, I was not able to join in all the fun as I was attending Principals’ meetings, however, it has been such a joy to see the photos and hear the stories of a great day out. I wish to extend a big thank you to our helpers and bus drivers. We are so grateful for your willingness to support this event.

Did you know that some of our garden produce was entered into the Morisset Show last weekend? One of our sunflowers actually won third place! I wish to thank Ella, from Pre-Kindy, and her parents for taking along some of the great things that grow in our garden. We are just so pleased with the outcome!

Here’s something else to be very proud of! At our school, Literacy is now being taught in Years 1-6 using a program called Pathways. Pathways is an outstanding Literacy program written by a group of curriculum writers in the United States. Last year when I attended an Education Convention in Chicago I was intro-duced to this program and I was very impressed with what I saw. I then came back and told Mrs Woods all about it. From there we decided to implement this program in our school. Some minor modifications are necessary to ensure that we are meeting the Australian curriculum requirments, however, the majority of the program we are able to implement as is. This program stands out not only because of its sound teach-ing practices but also because it has been written with our Christian worldview in mind. We are proudly the first Adventist school in the country to implement this program. We look forward to sharing further details about Pathways with you in due course.

Have you marked Tuesday 26 February, 6:30 pm in your calendar? This is a wonderful opportunity for you to be part of the vision casting for the future of our school. I really want to encourage you to come along and share your thoughts about where you would like to see our school heading in the next 10 years. I would love to see as many families represented as possible. Mr Bennetts, the CEO, and I look forward to engaging in discussion with you and hearing your ideas. In the meantime, I ask that you prayerfully consider the ‘what next’ for Toronto Adventist Primary School. If at anytime you have any questions about the ‘what next’ for our school, please feel free to contact me.

Our value this week has, once again, been ‘respect’. I have seen several examples of students demonstrating this value during the last week. Our School Captains were able to reward some of the students for being respectful in their conduct. It is just so good to see students putting into practice what they have been learning about. A kind word, a job done without being asked, taking turns. These are just a few of the many great things I’ve seen this week. Well done, students! The Bible says in Matthew 7:12, “So in everything, do to others what you have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.” Now that’s good advice to live by!

Blessings,

Miss Charmony DiasPrincipal
