MESSAGE FROMENGR SYED ABDUL QADIR SHAH CHAIRMAN, PAKISTAN ENGINEERING COUNCIL

All over the world the engineers are highly valued professionals because they are the catalyst in socio-economic uplift. Whether it is harnessing of wind or solar energy, construction of dams, hydel , thermal power houses, barrages, canals ,cement plants, air terminals, refineries, cause-ways, infrastructure, transport, communication, manufacturing, medical equipment; name anything and the stamp of Engineers ingenuity, skill and dedication will be manifest. However, despite being the cream of the nation the engineers are a neglected community. Their carriers often fall a victim of apathy of administrative bureaucracy. First they burn mid night oil to become Engineers and then toil day and night for the development and advancement of the country but languish in their initial positions for decades. You will be surprised to know that engineers of provincial departments, who constitute 80% of the total federal / provincial strength, do not possess any service structure nor are they given automatic time scale promotions.

Fellow Engineers, lack of concerted move towards specific aims and goals on the part of this highly talented community on account of absence of a strong platform have been the major reasons for this pitiful situation our community is facing. Ever since you people helped me to become Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council, me and my team has resolved to make untiring effort for the welfare of the Engineers of Pakistan and to get due status for them. A lot has already been done and much more will be done in the days to come. In view of its utility and significance first conceiving and then actualizing the idea of visit of former Prime Minister of Pakistan to PEC was manifestation of that resolve. We will try that unlike in the past; there are no communication gaps between the Pakistan Engineering Council and the Engineers community. We will activate not only the dissemination channels but also the feedback channels. To achieve this end I have already formulated a PR Committee with PEC. I hope that under the able guidance of its head Mr. Mukhtiar.A.Shaikh, the committee will be able to deliver goods.

MESSAGE FROMENGR. MUKHTIAR. A. SHAIKHVICE CHAIRMAN PEC (SINDH) AND CONVENER PR COMMITTEE

Dear Engineers, my association with PEC is stretched over two decades. I remained attached to this highly important organization in one way or the other throughout these years. It was always felt that PEC is doing many invisible greats but no effort was being done to bring those invisibles greats into visible ones. Although working in silence is good but then for the sake of motivation and encouragements there is a need that the concerned community is conspicuously told what is being done. It is our luck that the present Chiarman, PEC not only believes in going miles ahead for the welfare of the Engineers but is equally keen that the communication gap between PEC and the Engineer community is minimized. Mine and my teams efforts will be to open more communication channels like regular publishing of newsletter and its dissemination to every member engineer, development of interactive website, Facebook, social gatherings on important National and International events on regular basis etc. I am sure under the dynamic leadership of present Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council, PEC will be able to emerge as a vibrant, useful, enterprising and efficient organization. This Eid Edition of the newsletter is the first product of my Public Relation team. I am sure you would educate us with your valued comments on this effort. Following pages of this newsletter will give some idea about what PEC's newly elected Governing Body has done so far and what it aims at doing in future.

SOME WORDS FROM EDITORHaving been assigned the task of preparing this “Eid Edition of PEC Newsletter” by the Chairman PEC and Convener PR Committee is a great honour for me. It is my first such attempt, that too at a short notice of three days, I am sure with feedback flowing in from the talented Engineers community; there will be a qualitative improvement in the coming editions.
