Ifyouareahighschoolteacherorguidancecounselor,theSPIRITprogramwillshowyouhowyoucanenhancethedeliveryofyourclassroomlessonsoradvisinginforma-tionusingasoftwaretoolthathasbeenproventoengagestudentinterest.Addition-ally,youwilllearnaboutthewide-rangingopportunitiesthatexistforstudentswhopursueITcareers,includingthosethatsupportyourdiscipline.Thisyear’stwo-week,residential,professionaldevelopmentinstituteforteachersandcounselorsstartsonMonday,July9,2012,andcontinuesthroughFriday,July20,2012.Duringthefirstweek,youwilllearntousethebasicandadvancedfeaturesofasoftwaretool,Alice,toenhanceinstructioninSTEM(science,technology,engineer-ing,math)andotherdisciplines.Duringtheprogram,youwillhavetheopportunitytodevelopAlice-basedlessonsforaspecificunitthatyouteachoranimationsusingAlicethatshouldbetterengagestudentinterestincareerplanninginformation.Then,dur-ingthesecondweek,youwillpracticedeliveringyourlesson(s)/animation(s)toasmallgroupofhighschoolstudentsinordertocollectfeedbackandfurtherrefinethem.You’llhavetheopportunitytoworkwithotherteachers/counselorsandSPIRITstafftopolishyourworksoitwillbereadyforusewhentheschoolyearbegins.Duringtheschoolyearwhenyouimplementyourenhanced,Alice-basedlessonsintoyourclassesoranimationsinyouradvisingpractice,youwillhavemoreopportunitiestofurtherrefinethem.Finally,youwillshareyourexperiencesandlessonslearnedwithSPIRITstaffandotherteachers.Benefits• Educationalcreditavailable(ProfessionalGrowthPoints-PGPsorContinuingEdu-
