DALE’S DOODLES John 5:1 - 9

1After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. 2Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is

called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. 3In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. 4For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. 5Now a certain man was there who had an

infirmity thirty-eight years. 6When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”

7The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

8Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” 9And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked.

And that day was the Sabbath.

For thirty eight years this man is waiting to be healed. During this time in his life it seems that he had lost all hope, focus and faith. When Jesus comes to him, Jesus asked him if he wanted to be made well. Perhaps surprised by the question, the man begins to complain about his situation instead of anticipating the solution.

When we focus only on the problem we will miss the solution. When our life situations become the center of our attention, we miss God in the center of our life situations. Just as this man needed to do, we need to focus on Jesus and we will have our miracle.

So, the question is. . . Do you want to be made well?

Shalom, Pastor Dale

The Guy in the Glass by Dale Wimbrow, © 1934

When you get what you want in your struggle for life, And the world makes you King for a day, Then go to the mirror and look at your self, And see what that guy has to say. For it isn’t your father, or Mother, or Wife, Who judgment upon you must pass. The feller whose verdict counts most in your life Is the guy staring back from the glass. He’s the feller to please, never mind all the rest, For he’s with you clear up to the end, And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test If the guy in the glass is your friend. You may be like Jack Horner and “chisel’” a plum, And think you’re a wonderful guy, But the man in the glass says you’re only a bum If you can’t look him straight in the eye. You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years, And get pats on the back as you pass, But your final reward will be heartaches and tears If you’ve cheated the guy in the glass.

WELCOME TO SCUMC

CONGRATULATIONS PEG CAUDILL!

Do you recognize anyone in this picture? (Photo from 1987 SCUMC Pictorial Directory)

BLAST FROM THE PAST

Peg Caudill’s grandson, Evan William Caudill was born on July 16, 2009. Evan weighed 11 lbs 5 oz, and he was 3 weeks early! Evan and his proud parents, Brian & Stephanie Caudill, live in Manassas, Virginia. A big congratulations also goes out to Stephanie’s parents, Armen and Pam Abernathy of Chattanooga.

James “J.T.” Baker, and his sister Natalie joined our church family by profession of faith and baptism on July 26, 2009. They were baptized with water from the Jordan River that Pastor Dale brought back from his trip to the Holy Land. What a special day for them and their family, especially for their grandma Sharon, who teaches a Mother’s Day Out class.
