We survived the new temporary location thanks to all your cooperation.
I was so impressed with all the miniatures that were displayed. It was hard
to decide which one to vote on for sure.
There are only a few times left to get your quilts registered so please don't
forget. We need lots of quilts to make it another great show. My challenge
piece is done! Not without a hiccup or two but all in all I stepped out of the
box and got a nice result. I am looking forward to seeing all the talent of
this great guild.
I have been really pleased with the "fugly" shown on facebook. So far I
haven't seen a fugly yet. I hope you will bring yours to show and tell this
month. It will be inspiring to see what we can do with ugly fabric. I know
we do great with the good stuff. Better beware someone might want to
claim that fugly back.
I hope you are looking forward to the winter. I golfed today with a great
group. I get to sew this week with another great group. How good can life
get?
Looking forward to seeing you in February.
Renee

Military Service Quilts have been getting much busier. Mary Jo Havertape & Deb Blackbourn have been
presenting many Veterans quilts in the last month. On December 20, we attended the Harlingen American
Legion Christmas Party where we presented five (5) Veterans quilts. Two weeks later, we presented two (2)
Veterans, whose names were given to us by a guild member, with quilts. On January 6, we travelled to
Raymondville to present seven (7) quilts to Veterans of their American Legion. On January 8, we went to the
South Texas Veterans’ Home and presented 2 quilts. We have been in contact with the Salvation Army, who
would like to have a joint event with us to distribute 50-60 quilts to Homeless Veterans. The Commander of
the Raymondville American Legion spoke to the State Director for the American Legions and told him about
our Military Service Quilts. Needless to say, we need to sew more quilts! On Friday, January 30, we are
requesting RGV Quilt Guild members to travel with us to the American Legion in Raymondville for a sew
day. They have told us they will have the coffee pot on at 8:30! The Ladies Auxiliary will be there to assist
us. The Chamber of Commerce members will be stopping in during the day. The high school principal is
contemplating sending a few students to assist in whatever way they can. Mary Jo and I will have the fabric
ready! So, organize your carpools and bring your sewing machines, rotary cutters, mats, rulers, and snacks
for a fun-filled day!
The Harlingen American Legion has also advised us they would like to have us there for a sew-day. We are
working on a date in February (after our show!), so stay tuned – check the website or Facebook for
information as the time gets closer!
Please remember to return your borrowed library books to the next meeting.
The list of all our books are on the guild web site. See one you would like to borrow?
Send me and email and I'll bring it to the next meeting just for you!

The Llano Grande Quilting Bee continues to grow. At last count we have early 100 active members on our
roster with new members joining every week. New this season is a 13-page welcome packet has been
developed for members with a registration form, membership card and the information to help, especially
brand new members, learn more quickly what is available when they join our bee. Last Spring a committee
organized the photos for our bee’s 17-month calendar which showcases the winners from the 2014 Llano
Grande Quilting Bee’s quilt show. There is a regularly sized wall calendar plus a smaller pocket calendars for
purchase. They have been very well received. At the last Monday morning meeting of the month, a short
program has been given by our members in place of our usual “Show and Tell.” We have had programs on
Color Theory and Thread Selection.12 of our quilters spent several days at the Rockport Retreat. They
reported it was a great time and a great facility. A full bus load of quilters spent January 13th on a “shop hop”
to Corpus Christi to two quilt shops and to JoAnns” Fabrics. Our Community Service chairperson reports
that 252 baby blankets have been received to be distributed to local hospitals and to charities our bee
supports. Beginning and Intermediate quilting classes are in full swing. Our calendar contains several other
classes each week which are offered to active members.
Mission Bee
Oh, My but we have been busy, the "Snow Bunnies" turned out cute as can be, most everyone had theirs
finished (or nearly so).
Our Janey and the elves cleaned, polished and did a good job of decorating the hall for the Christmas gift
exchange and potluck lunch on the 15th. As usual there was too much food and all very good. The gifts were
welcomed by everyone. We didn't see Rudolph but I think that he was somewhere around there.
On January 5th we met to plan the schedule for the coming months, much progress was made on this. Janey
Thompson, our leader stated that she would like to have time off and would assist the new leader whereupon
Sandy Bagot volunteered for that position. There were 24 members present.

The Wanna Bees meet at the home of Ruth Kapraun on the second and fourth Sunday of the month. For the
month of December, the Bee had their Christmas party. They had a special dinner and played the LCR game
with fat quarters. They also played the Chinese Gift Exchange with either sewed new items or baked
goodies. Everyone had a wonderful time! The party ended when the members exchanged gifts.
In January, some of the ladies met at the home of Nila Layman. Florea Flores taught the ladies how to do a
wreath. Thank you Nila for allowing us to use your home to work on the wreath. I also wish to thank Florea
Flores for coming all the way from Edinburg, on a cold and rainy day, to do the demo.
The contact person for the Wanna Bees is Adela H. Saldana. She can be reached at 956-565-5089
