1 W e’re in Nashville, TN., enjoying some R & R. Last night we at- tended the show, “Always Patsy,” a tribute to the great Patsy Cline at the Ryman Auditorium. We are also looking forward to attending the Grand Old Opry while we are here. Since leaving our Grants Pass, OR home in June of 2008, we have attended 8 Beaver Ral- lies and an FMCA Rally. Janice & I are having a wonderful time renew- ing friendships and making new Beaver friends. We hope to see YOU at a rally, soon! In February we enjoyed the Royal Lipizzan Horse Rally with Bill Mitts and Carol Luetjen, Rally Masters. It was a delight to see how the horses were trained by the all female trainers. It was poetry in motion! We also had lunch and toured Benjamin’s Castle, which was nearby. The food was delicious and the castle is beyond description. Yes, you must see it to believe it! At the Beavers of the Night Sky Rally with Tom and Lynn Crowley, Rally Masters, we saw the stars as we’ve never seen them before. We stayed at the Crowley’s which is part of a village of star gazers. It was quite an experience to see the night sky and learn about our universe. Our club is so fortunate to have Beavers who can share their skills and hob- bies with each other. This is another must see rally, and of course, as usual, we were fed VERY WELL! Pete & Connie Bradish were the Rally Masters for the Mystery Rolling Rally 2. Each day we were presented with a map showing where that day’s mystery would be. We had shopping, sightseeing and found places we’d never heard of. You’ll need to ask Pete about the tour of the oil rig in the gulf??? Be sure and sign up early for their next Mystery Rolling Rally. You’ll be sure to enjoy the suspense! We want to give SPECIAL THANKS to Rally Masters Jack & Peggy Whit- mill for the fantastic Lead-In Rally in Moultrie, GA. We know the chal- lenges of Monaco filing chapter 11, but even with the reduction in support, Jack and Peggy put on a first class rally with seminars, fantas- tic entertainment, craft classes and plenty of GOOD FOOD. The FMCA International Convention in Perry, GA was our next stop. Roy & Carol Mueller did an excellent job of organizing the 65 coach Security and Family Caravan to Perry. The Family Caravan and the Se- curity Volunteers joined together each afternoon for a happy hour and sharing of the day’s activities. Prez (Continued from page 1)Roy and Carol have agreed to head up the Security Vol-unteers for the FMCA Convention in Bowling Green, OH in July of 2009. Whether you volunteer for security or just go and enjoy the rally, be sure not to miss out on all the fun and fellowship.

Our next rally was Beavers in Brunswick, with Pete & Connie Bradish. What a great time we had taking a nar-rated tour of Jekyll Island and having brunch at the His-toric Jekyll Island Clubhouse. There was plenty of time for the ladies to visit all the quaint shops and boutiques on the island. And of course, Janice found a lonely bea-ver that she just HAD to adopt! Pete & Connie have more rallies planned and advertised in the BT. If you want to attend a great rally, be sure to sign up.

We have three Beaver International (Lead-In) Rallies scheduled: "Beaver County Fair" – July 14th in Lima, OH, with Gary & Pat Gerber, Rally Masters. This is going to be another incredible rally and we encourage you to sign up soon as available spaces will be filling up."Albuquerque Crossroads" International Rally – March 2010 with Rett & Claire Porter, Rally Masters. Be sure to watch for the ad in the BT and sign up soon as we have limited spaces."Cowboy Up in Prineville" International Rally – August 4, 2010 in Prineville, OR, with Jim & Lorraine O’Hara, Ral

ly Masters. This rally also has limited space so get your reservation in early.

There is a BEAVER RALLY somewhere near you, no mat-ter where you are in the USA. Would you believe there are 30 BAC rallies listed in this issue of BT, beginning with Wine Country in May?!?!? I didn’t even count the European rallies - Beavers on the Rhine and Beavers in Scandinavia - which makes 32! Be sure to sign up early or get your name on the waiting list. DON’T MISS OUT ON ALL THE FUN! NOW, THE REST OF THE STORY! Monaco??? There have been many rumors, many people telling what is hap-pening. At the time of this writing, there is nothing of-ficial. We are still waiting for word from Monaco and/or the parties purchasing Monaco, to make a decision. When we receive credible information I will email it to all of the Vice Presidents, Board of Directors and Com-mittee Chairmen and I know you will find out almost as soon as they do. Our Beaver Club is doing well. In the past, the Board of Directors had anticipated times like what we are going through now, and put reserves away for a rainy day. We have appointed a Task Force to put together a plan for the future. This will be presented to the Board of Directors in Lima, OH. I welcome your emails or phone calls that concern BAC or Monaco. This is your club and we are here to serve.

North West VP's Report Jim O’Hara

Good day to you all. I hope your spring and summer are developing well and you are planning on attending rallies.

We have some nice ones scheduled for you in Region One this year, and I am currently working on the International BAC rally in Prin-eville, Oregon for August 2010, and a mystery rally which should be a real hoot!! It is my hope that some of you are planning a rally or thinking about using some of the teasers I have posted in prior articles, and in this edition, to put a rally together. Here is another possible rally location: The Sequim Lavender Festival. With eight farms on tour and one fantastic street fair, it is like nine fes-tivals in one. Sequim, Washington is located on Washington State’s Olympic Peninsula, cradled in the “rain shadow” of the Olympic Mountains. The festival is held during July annually (usually three days), so weather is ideal and RV parks are available. Email me or call me if this interests anyone and you would like further information on the event. We need more rallies scheduled in Region One. With the financial situation in the coun-try at present, local rallies seem to be the preference for club members. Our currently scheduled rallies are full, and have waiting lists, so filling a rally within Region One really is not an issue at the present time - getting more of you all to step forward and plan a ral-ly is. Surly there is a special area some of you enjoy that could be shared with other BAC members in the form of a rally. I have said it before and I’ll repeat myself here again; be-coming a Rally Master does not require any special skills. Your VP and Director can walk you through any questions you may have, and are more than willing to assist in devel-oping your rally. How about the Pendleton Oregon Round Up? This is a big rodeo and the area has RV Parks and a casino to enhance the attraction. This would make a nice venue for a rally - it just needs someone to step forward and put it together, other than the same cadre of mem-bers currently doing the rallies.I have recommended Dick McQuillan to re-place me as your Region 1 VP on October 1, 2009. He will make a fine VP, if elected, and has selected Mike Humble as his Di-rector. They both will need help from all of you to keep rallies scheduled

and on-going in our region.I have asked Dick to contribute to this article and he has submitted the following response: “As more and more BAC members become fa-miliar with our website, webmaster Tim Bent-ley continues to add useful content. One re-cent addition is the Regional News and Views message board. As some of you know, Region 1 established a blog in January of this year. However, now that we can post items that have particular significance to Region 1 on the BAC website we will forego further post-ings on our blog. One of the most popular postings on the Re-gion 1 message board deals with suggestions for future rallies. Please feel free to add any ideas you have for rallies in the Pacific North-west. Of course ideas are wonderful, but to become a rally, we also need folks to step up and volunteer to be rally masters or co-rally master. With your help we will all enjoy new and inspiring activities."This just in from Dick - he informs me that he can accommodate up to 5 more coaches on the 7 Feathers Frolic rally to be held September 8 – 11, 2009. This promises to be a great time to visit the scenic Umpqua River and Rogue River valleys in Oregon and if you haven’t yet stayed at the new Seven Feathers RV Resort, you are really missing a great park. This rally will include a motor coach trip on a very sce-nic tour to Crater Lake, lunch at the famous Crater Lake Lodge, winery tours and tastings, and a private tour of the Douglas County Mu-seum of History with dinner. Give Dick a call at 541-496-4789 or e-mail him at [email protected] if you have any questions. Also, see his ad for this rally in this month’s Beaver Tales or on the BAC website. Finally, another suggestion for an interest-ing rally - “Dinner with Chef Bear” - a meal at a chef’s table in the historic Marcus Whitman Hotel & Convention Center in Walla Walla, Washington. Dining in this working kitchen would allow rally goers to observe the kitchen at work, and while savoring a 7 course dinner set with hand-turned wooden chargers and stately China surrounded by numerous wine glasses. Each course builds on the last, as wine and food complexities enhance the fla-vors of seasonal and regional food and wine.I want to compliment Diana Bentley for the very pleasant, easy reading and informational layout she has done with the “new” Beaver Tales. Well done Diana.Until we meet at the next rally, safe travels.Jim

Summer is almost on us and the weather in the last few days has made it seem as if summer were already here. Mary and I are

driving to Beaver County Fair, the last Lead-In Rally, in Lima, Ohio. We are looking forward to seeing some new country for us. The name for Lead-In Rallies has been changed to Interna-tional Rallies. The reason for this change is the fact that these rallies act as a gathering for the entire Beaver Club, provide a forum for our le-gally required corporate meetings and do not necessarily occur just before an FMCA Interna-tional Convention – that is they do not neces-sarily lead into an FMCA rally. It was first sug-gested that they be called national rallies, but as our club has members in both Canada and the United States, International seemed a more accurate title.

Here in Region 2, by the time you receive this issue of the Beaver Tales, we will have just fin-ished the Napa/ Sonoma Wine Country Rally. I would like to thank Brian and Sharon Herndon, Rally Masters, and Jim and Natasha Nichols, Co-Rally Masters for all of the hard work they have put into making this an interesting, fun, and successful rally. It is difficult, in these uncertain financial times, to step forward and commit to planning, organizing and carrying out a rally. As you have probably already read elsewhere, Monaco no longer provides any support for our rallies. The only support we can count on is our own rally fees.

Coming up later this summer is the Grand Circle rally being planned by Garland and Dorothy Land. We are meeting on September 13th in Las Vegas, NV, and then taking a circular tour of the four corners of Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona and all of the National Parks along the way. The rally ends back in Las Vegas on Octo-ber 8th. If you are interested, contact Garland or Dorothy. By the way, the Four Corners marker for these 4 states has been found to be mis-placed by some 2.5 miles, the result of a survey error made in the late 1800’s. I understand the error will not be corrected on future maps.

Bill and Karen Maloof are working on the Christ-mas on the Waterfront Rally to be held in New-port Beach in December. They are being helped by Jim and Bobbi Haag along with Les and Bettsie Hewitt. Send in your reservation cou-pon right away as they have space for only 25

coaches. Thank you Bill and Karen for leading this effort.

Looking forward to next year, Mandy and Vio-let Canales are organizing a Beaver Security Rally to be held in conjunction with the FMCA Western Area Rally in Indio from January 3 – 10, 2010. Mary and I look forward to this rally as it is a great way to get out of the cold snow for a few weeks and spend time with friends.

Later in 2010 there are two rallies planned so far for our region. Roy and Vicki Warren are plan-ning Glaciers & Grizzlies, a rolling rally to Alaska. We went to Alaska in our Beaver motorhome and highly recommend the experience. The rally will meet in Redding, CA and roll to Alaska, be-ing gone for about two and a half months. For those of us staying back closer to home, Mike and Prudy Randolph are working on Basque on the Fourth. This rally will be held in Elko, NV from July 2 – 6, 2010. We are looking forward to this rally and hope to arrive a few days early and get in a few hikes in the nearby Ruby Mountains.

Do you have an idea for a rally? The Mendocino coast, Mount Lassen Park, the California Red-woods, and perhaps another Jazz festival at Three Rivers or in Pismo Beach are some ideas that come to mind. Give me a call or send an email. Enjoy the summer and hope to see you soon.

Hi

NV

Foggy Window Problem? by Jack and Peggy WhitmillA fellow BAC member called us and highly recommended C&C Windows/Suncoast Designers in Hudson, FL for replacing our fogged-up double pane windows. Several members have already used them, including us. We are very pleased with the workman-ship and attitude of the employees. They are able to reuse the glass in the units, cleaning and resealing them, in most cases. They use your existing frames and this en-ables them to keep the cost to a reasonable level. Severely glazed windows may need to have the glass replaced. They have a limited number of electric & water hook-ups and a dump station.

We would highly recommend them. For in-formation/appointments call 727-868-2773. The web site is @www.suncoastdesigners.com. They are also listed on the Sources Board on the Forum (beaveramb.org) along with another provider who does the same thing in Bend, Oregon.

Past President'sReport

Where does the time go? Here it is spring and coming up on summer already. Well I guess time flies when you’re having fun and being around our Beaver friends, as

Karen and I were since we last wrote this article. It started in Moultrie, GA with our Lead-In Rally, getting together with some friends we haven’t seen in a while, and enjoying the great job Jack and Peggy Whitmill and their Co-Rally Masters did with the rally. It was a great time for all. From there we went to the FMCA rally in Perry, GA where Roy and Carol Mueller handled the security. They did an outstanding job and the club seemed to have a great time helping. While on the subject, they will be handling the security again in Bowling Green, OH, so if you are heading that way they would appreciate any help you can give them. They can be contacted by E-Mail at: [email protected] or by phone at 573-220-1216. Then we slipped on over to Northern Alabama to visit Jim & Gerda Bull, where they hosted some Beaver friends. I think we had 9 coaches, plus two couples came in their car. It wasn’t a rally, but we still had a great time. Some terrific food, wonderful friendship and we even had some competition - the boys against the girls in a card game called Hand and Foot. I always thought that game was kinda’ laid back and not much action until I played with Jim on my team. He was always telling me to keep an eye on Janice with the pencil and Julie was jumpin’ up all the time saying, “this card plays here, that card plays over there.” One time I asked her about the card she had under the table and she said “no problem, Lamar, it plays right there and I’m out.”

I said, "you’ve got to be kidding." She said, “no just count your points.” I had two red three’s in my foot and Roy had one in his foot, that’s 900 points in the hole right there. Needless to say I was having a bad hair day (Do you hear me talkin?’) But in the end, the boys won 4 games and the girls won two, so I’ll bet the girls are chompin’ at the bit for a re-match.From there we came back to Branson for some R&R. Don and Helen Houchen rolled into town for a week and we are joining them for some dinners and shows. It is always great to see friends we haven’t seen for a while. I am still working on my project to find my biological mother. The Illinois adoption agency had no luck finding her after two years of searching. While talking with Connie Bradish in Perry, GA at the FMCA Convention, I asked her if she would help me in my search and she agreed. I have been busy gathering up as much information as I can for her.Now let’s talk about some events that are coming up for the BAC this summer, like the International Rally (Lead-In) at Lima, OH. The Gerbers have a lot of great things planned, so I hope I see a lot of you folks there. Also, there are some great rallies in the mid-west and on the east coast. If you will be in the area, sign up for the rallies and support our hard working rally masters. Karen and I will be heading to the northeast after the rallies, as that is one of the areas that we have not been with our coach.Everyone in the organization has been working very hard to keep the club going with the shape Monaco is in. What makes our club different are the members. I have always said the club is like our second family and that is what keeps it so strong.Thank you Willis for keeping us headed in the right direction under your great leadership. Looking forward to seeing a lot of you folks at a Beaver function this summer and always remember to keep your britches between those ditches (now don’t you know). Lamar

SOMETHING NEW FOR DUES NOTICES THIS YEAR by George MorlanIn an effort to cut costs, we are going to send dues notices by email this year, to those mem-bers for whom we have an email address on file.

The process will involve three emails. The first will tell you that the dues notice will be coming shortly, in an email with just an attachment. This is to tip you off so that you will not be afraid to open an email with only an attachment. There will also be some simple instructions.

The second will be the actual dues notice. It will come shortly after the first one, and as men-tioned above it will have no message, just the attachment. The delay will be just long enough to permit weeding out the folks for whom the first notice did not go through.

The third will be a follow-up so that you know that we think you have received your dues notice.

When you get the dues notice, it will be in Mi-crosoft Word format. If you cannot open it, an email back to George Morlan ([email protected]) will get you a copy in the format that works with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

If we do not have an email address for you; or if the email process fails; or if you have not sent your dues in by the time of the mailing, you will get a dues notice by US mail in August. So what can you do to help? • First, make sure Iris Schmidt has your correct email address. If you need to update it, you can get in touch with Iris by email or tele-phone. Or even better, you can use the up-date form that is now available on the website (www,beaveramb.org and click on “update your member information).• Second, make sure that my email ad-dress ([email protected]) is in whatever list your email system uses to accept mail. It does no good if your dues emails are shunted off to the junk pile.

• Third, you can pay your dues when the email notice arrives, so that we do not have to send another by snail mail in August.

As I write this, we are still a couple of months away from heading to the Beaver County Fair in Lima, Ohio. We were not

able to make it to the last lead-in in Georgia, but we were well represented by Gerald Farris and his wife Glenda.

A lot of changes have come out of the last Board meeting and I am sure more will be ahead at the next one in Ohio. These are tough times we are in, and cutbacks are becoming a way of life for all of us. The important thing is that we do not lose sight of our reasons for being Beavers.

I think most would agree that the friendship, and fellowship, that is derived from our Beaver Ambassador membership is the number one reason for being, and staying, members. Good and bad times will come and go; they always have, and always will; but don’t let the bad be a reason for giving up on our wonderful group. We need your participation in the many exciting rallies being offered. We also need your

participation in planning and sharing ideas for future rallies. Make your plans and sign up now for events that interest you. Also volunteer to help, where needed, at the International Rallies. Working with your fellow Beavers makes rally at-tendance even more enjoyable.

Region 4 has a number of fun events scheduled this fall, starting with Ascending Again in ABQ at the balloon fiesta in Albuquerque, NM. Fol-lowing this, we have a new rally, Amarillo by Morning. This leads in to German Fun and Food in New Braunfels, TX. In January we will once again camp in the desert at Quartzite, AZ at Cir-cle the Wagons 2010. Let's Roll INTO is a layover rally leading to the Quartsite INTO FMCA Rally. Region 4 will host the BAC International Rally, Albuquerque Crossroads, before the Spring 2010 FMCA Convention in Albuquerque, NM.

It is not a Region 4 rally, but the Grand Circle Rally, put on by Garland Land will be traveling through our beautiful area and visiting many of the fantastic Parks in Utah and Arizona. Judy and I have visited these areas many times and can recommend them.

Safe travels to all, and remember, “If you have time, you are never lost”Joe and Judy Zagar

NATIONAL SCENE: In the last issue of BT I listed sev-eral issues facing FMCA in this economic down-turn and what proposals were on the table. 2008

was one of the most challenging years FMCA has ever experienced. As a result of operating and investment losses FMCA’s cash and investment balance declined by $3,367,774. The following is a synopsis of what FMCA has done to meet its budget for the coming year.• The four National officers cut their travel reim-bursements to Area/Chapter visitations by 50%. ($20,000 saving)• TheentireExecutiveBoardcuttheirtravelreim-bursements 50%. ($76,000 saving)• TheNationalOffice’scostcuttingtotaled$859,000and budget reductions in excess of $148,000. The major cost cutting was the reduction of the work force (6 full-time and 7 part-time employees). The actions taken by the Board amounted to $1.1 million for 2009.• At theendofJanuary,2009,FMCAlaunched itsnew Web Site. The new platform is more flexible and easier to maintain. You are encouraged to view the site at www.fmca.com. Those who are interested may access all the financial reports on line in the Governance Section under the Members Tab on the home page of the FMCA Web Site.

At the Ohio FMCA convention the Governing Board will be discussing, with action on, 11 National Bylaws Amend-ments. Of the 11 proposed amendments several have to do with policies, procedures, name change, and issuing of awards. Those of significance are: (1) a chapter shall hold 1 business meeting a year with a quorum present; (2) what constitutes a Regular Chapter and an Associate Chapter; (3) provision for, and policies relating to, an In-teractive Electronic Communication by any individual, chapter, or area; and (4) a proposal to hold National Of-ficer elections by mail ballot.

INTERNATIONAL AREA (INTO) SCENE: In his “Sonny Says…” column he writes about the INTO AREA rally in Quartzsite next January. “We are going to have a rally in Quartzsite, AZ, starting the 20th of January of 2010, so I want you Chapter Presidents to think about having your rally within our rally. Park together and let us do the work. Any chapter wishing to park as a group will be able to do so. We will have entertainment, ice cream social, games, etc. What I am shooting for is ‘back to the basics.’ You re-member when we all went and used our generators, sat around campfires and told lies to each other and had a good time? Let’s do it again but on a larger scale.”

CHAPTER SCENE: I would like to encourage our BAC members to attend our Beaver Ambassador Club semi-annual corporate meeting in Lima, Ohio. Check this issue of Beaver Tales for the information on “Beaver County Fair” starting July 14. This event will announce our incoming BAC officers for the next two years. Dick McQuillan (Re-gion 1---Northwest) and Gerald Farris (Region 4---South Central) are on the current ballot for their respective re-gions and there are several bylaw changes proposed.

All members are encouraged to mark their ballot and re-turn Them as soon as possible.

FUTURE FMCA CONVENTIONS:Albuquerque, NM---March 22 – 25, 2010Redmond, OR---August 11-14, 2010

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE: An elderly Floridian (sorry) called 911 on her cell phone to report that her car had been broken into. She is hysterical as she explains her situation to the dispatcher. “They’ve stolen the stereo, the steering wheel, the brake pedal and even the accelerator!” The dispatcher said, ”Stay calm. An officer is on the way.” A few minutes later, the officer ra-dios in. "Disregard," he says. "She got in the back-seat by mistake."

I Can Hear Just Fine…Three retirees, each with a hearing loss, were playing golf one fine March day. One remarked to the other, “Windy, isn’t it?”“No,” the second man replied, “it’s Thursday,”And the third man chimed in, “So am I, Let’s have a beer.”Mandy

Welcoming summer is always an excit-ing time in the Buffalo area, NO snow. As you guessed, we are finally home

in Western New York. We had quite an event filled trip. We left after the Brunswick Rally in Georgia. which was packed full of fun and ac-tivities. A big thank you goes to the Bradish’s for another great time. On our way to the Outer Banks, NC we had a little scream in the engine and then a lot of smoke and oil. Yep, we blew the turbo in the engine. We were able to get off the road and park on a residential street. Not the best place to be, but fortunately found ourselves in front of the house of a fellow FMCA member. We were traveling with another Beaver mem-ber and FOB. Everyone jumped into action to help. Gregory Poole CAT sent a service man to us and we were fixed the next day. This is good information to know. The geography in the area is difficult to navigate. The CAT dealer has mobile service which saved us from being towed over 150 miles. Washington, DC was our next stop. The cherry blossoms were beautiful. I also just received information from the Whitmills that a rally is being planned in 2010 for this area. There is so much to see and do in Washington. If you have never visited, or even if you have, you will be surprised at the many new things that make this a great opportunity.I am hoping that everyone is planning to at-tend the International Rally in Lima, Ohio (See the ad). The Gerbers, Morlans and we are dili-gently planning an old fashioned county fair. Bring your straw hat, jeans and your favorite bake-off recipe for a week full of fun.The Crowley’s, Joanne and I would like to in-vite you to join “Rolling to the Cape,” traveling from the Bowling Green FMCA rally to “Escape to the Cape” in Massachusetts. It will be a long haul in a short time but as planned, we will have a great trip. The Humphries will be anx-iously waiting for us in Cape Cod. They have a rally planned that will keep the attendees very busy. I can’t wait to have a bowl of real “New England Clam Chowder”. Look for the ads for both rallies. This is an opportune time to be a Beaver. The loss of Monaco service it has given many of our members the opportunity to shine. If you are not aware, we have Beavers that have exper-tise in a variety of areas. They can help fix your

problem, or at least direct you to someone that can help you get repaired or find parts. You are encouraged to go to the BAC website and Fo-rum. It is filled with information. If you do not find what you need, ask a question. You will see how the members respond with answers.I would like to thank all the Region 5 members who have responded to my plea to host rallies and to gather pictures for the website. Give Beavers a challenge and they react. Look for the many new rallies to be hosted by Region 5 in the future. The many pictures on beaver-amb.org will help you remember all the grand fun you had. Until we meet again I wish you fair winds and calm roads. Working together we “Can Do”Thomas

Have You Got ICE? (In Case of Emergency card) Submitted by Mandy CanalesThis article was submitted to the INTO Newsletter by Sena Frank, INTO secretary. I thought the remarks were so relevant I included portions of her original article here. She writes:Every once in a while something happens that you just have to share...so here’s my story. One morning the couple we had been traveling with had an emergency. As our friend was coming down the steps of the RV with a bag of garbage in her hand, she tripped/slipped and landed hard on her left foot. The left ankle rolled over and she broke several bones. What a way to spend the 4th of July! While my husband helped attend to her, I called 911. The operator began asking all sorts of questions–her age, allergies, medications, etc. Fortunately, the day before, she showed my husband a laminated card with their medical and emergency contact information. Having that information made it much easier for me, the 911 operator and the paramedics. Our friends keep a copy of their card in the tow vehicle, in their RV refrigerator (in a pill bottle), and in their wallets. On the card is their name, date of birth (month/year), allergies, medications with dosage, blood type, and the next of kin with contact information. When I prepared our cards, I added the words, “Organ Donors”.So, do you have ICE? We all enjoy traveling this beautiful country – that’s why we have an RV. Hopefully we will never have an accident, but having this information available for emergency personnel will be beneficial to them as well as yourselves. After you write up your information, you can take your ‘card’ to the local office supply store and have them laminate it, or you can purchase the 'self-seal' sheets and laminate the card yourself. I was able to make our card the size of a standard business card and purchased 'self-seal,' repositionable business card sized laminating pouches that I purchased at the office supply store. In addition, we now have “In Case of emergency” (ICE) on our cell phones with the next of kin contact information. On my cell phone, ICE1 is my husband’s contact cell number and ICE2 is our daughter’s. As a final note, don’t overlook the importance of having a living will, durable power of attorney, surrogate health care provider and written instructions on what to do in case of serious injury or death.

Departure from Amsterdam August 22, 2010The purpose of this ad is to determine interest for a 15 day river cruise on the Rhine and Danube with stops at Cologne, Koblenz, Rudesheim,

Mainz, Wertheim, Wurzburg, Rothenburg, Nuremberg, Regensburg, Passau, Linz, Melk, Durnstein, Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest. If we have enough interest we will organize a group with Viking River Cruises. Any group discount will be spread back to the group.

Cost for this trip ranges from $4100 to $5700 per person (depending on cabin choice) which does not include airfare or insurance. These prices are good if you sign up and pay prior to December of 2009.

The river ships are very elegant but cabin space is very limited. I would like to finalize the group by August of 2009. We understand there will be cancellations so we will take a waiting list. Friends of Beavers are welcome.

The cruise is the “Grand European Tour” and the ship is the Viking Legend.

The financial position of the club is not nearly as bad as it could have been, with the state of the

economy and depressed RV industry. Much can be said about the vision of our prior Boards when they elected to put money away for a rainy day, and it is raining; however, their foresight makes it much easier to weather the storm. We had to use $18,862 of the reserves for the Moultrie rally; however, had Jack and Peggy Whitmill not been as conscientious in their plan-ning and spending, it could have been worse. Our as-sets have been depleted by $34,000, about what was expected, and comes as no surprise. We still are show-ing in excess of $200,000, of which $180,000 is cash or securities readily convertible to cash.Income-wise, we reported a net gain of $16,500, real-izing that the major portion of our dues are reported in this quarter. Our overall receipts were down by $23,000 from the budget. Expenditures were also down $33,800 from the budget. The previously mentioned reserve transfer accounts for $18,862 of the re-duced expenditure. At the Moultrie meeting, President Willis Lotts created a new Task Force to determine what needs to be done in the future to keep BAC a viable and healthy organization. We will be hear-ing their suggestions during the ensu-ing months. It is very encouraging, in this time of crisis, to see our members pulling to-gether for the benefit of all. We will continue to have great and fun rallies at a reasonable cost. Our Rally Masters are dedicated to that premise.Jim

Did you know?.. .Here are two numbers everyone should add to their cell phone address book. The first is a free phone informa-tion service from Google. The number is 800-466-4411 (800-GOOG411.)The automated response asks for the business name or type, city and state. They may give you several options. When you choose the name you want, they will connect you, or you say, "details" to get the address and phone number. It sure beats paying $1.75 for the cell phone 411 each time you want to find a restaurant, store, RV service, etc.The second number is called ICE (In Case of Emer-gency.) Some cell phones have this option already in the address book, but, if not, you can type ICE for the name and enter 2 or 3 emergency numbers. Should you have an emergency, First Responders are trained to look for such contact information.

As we welcome spring, with summer on the way, it’s time to make definite plans for the season with some super rallies in process. A check of the rally schedule will quickly assist with your travel plans with so many outstanding rallies scheduled!

The solution for mail delivery is really very simple for everyone. Please notify me of your seasonal addresses with specific dates ap-plicable. These changes are definitely never a problem, I just need to know when and where, to comply with your request. Changes have never been so quick and easy. Please go to the BAC Web Page, the very first item under About BAC is “Update Your Member Informa-tion” ~~ and there you are! I am readily available by email, snail mail (which takes longer due to our mail forwarding service), cell phone, as well as the Internet.

Congrats to the Whitmill-Bradish-Fadale crew for a terrific “Music and Memories” rally in Moultrie, GA and to our special First Timers enjoying the great activities. Have a wonderful summer, but please save time in July for the Beaver County Fair Lead-In rally at Lima, OH. Rally Masters Gary & Pat Gerber, with their capable and hard work-ing Fadale-Morlan Co-Rally Masters have an outstanding program planned. This will truly be a “County Fair” festivity!

Even with all of the unsettling concerns and media reports regard-ing the RV industry, we remain very optimistic and absolutely cer-tain that Beaver Ambassador Club is definitely here to stay. We are an independent club and will continue to function. This is surely evi-denced by all of the rallies and enthusiasm!!! I love the quote from CBS Correspondent Andy Rooney: " Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass ... it's about learning to dance in the rain." Iris

ELECTIONS AND BY-LAWS CHANGES by George Morlan

By now you should have received your ballot for the 2009 elections. Ballots went to members in all regions this year, even though only three regions are electing a new regional vice president, because

there are some changes in the By-Laws proposed.

It is no secret that there are severe changes taking place in the motor home industry in general and with the parent company of Beaver in par-ticular. When your Board was considering the budget for this fiscal year at the meetings in Owatanna last summer, it was clear that the level of support we would receive from Monaco would be significantly reduced. Events since then have certainly underscored this.

Several steps were taken at the Owatanna meetings to reduce expenses. We moved to put the annual membership directory on the website, send-ing printed copies to only those members who request them. We elimi-nated the fuel reimbursement program for all but the national officers whose responsibilities make attendance at the Board meetings essential.

One change that looked sensible, required a change in the By-Laws. In order to avoid election disputes, as occurred about 10 years ago, a compli-cated voting process was developed. But since then we have never had a contested election; so we spend a lot of money sending out ballots when there is very little chance of fraud. It seemed reasonable to avoid this cost ($1000-$2000) each year. The P&R Committee proposal for a new system is on your ballot. It changes the voting process from paper ballots mailed to members to either voice or secret ballots at the corporate meetings, with a provision that the Board can revert to the mailed ballot process if there are issues where this would be warranted. It also opens the way for using electronic voting in such a process.

In the process of doing this work, it became clear that some other chang-es to the By-Laws would be in order. One change is to permit sending dues notices electronically instead of mailing them. (See page 12 for this year's plan.) Another addresses the number of Board members required for a quorum. We are proposing to change it from seven to six, a simple majority of voting members of the Board. With the cost of travel on the rise, and our inability to continue the fuel reimbursement program for all officers, this reduces the chance that the Board would be unable to func-tion due to lack of a quorum.

FMCA has discussed the potential for moving from two to one FMCA in-ternational convention each year, and reducing the number of chapter membership meetings required from two to one. While we do not think that FMCA is going to cut out either of the semi-annual conventions, it does seem sensible to give ourselves the flexibility to hold only one BAC Corporate meeting a year, and another By-Laws change does this. The change is provisional, because unless the FMCA Governing Board ap-proves the chapter change in its meeting in July, FMCA will still require two. It is our intention to continue to have two large rallies each year.

A corollary of this is untying our “Lead-in” rallies from the FMCA Inter-national conventions. We have encountered situations where schedul-ing concerns for BAC rallies, uncertainty about the time and location of FMCA conventions and other factors have raised the possibility that our big BAC rally might not be immediately before the FMCA convention. So the proposed By-Laws changes accommodate this by shifting our term from “Lead-in” to “International Rally."These changes certainly do not address all of the financial problems fac-ing the club, but they will help. At Moultrie, President Willis Lotts ap-pointed a task force to explore what will be necessary to keep BAC a vi-brant organization as we move forward. There is little doubt that this can

be done; the question is just what it will take. The task force is charged with reporting back to the Board at the July meeting in Lima, OH. If you have any ideas on the subject, please get them to one of the members of the task force: Tim Bentley, Gerald Farris, Randy Hopper, Lamar Keck, Willis Lotts (ex officio), George Morlan, Rett Porter, Mike Randolph, and Jack Whitmill.

This is an exciting time for our club. In addition to 11 new rallies (including 2 in Europe!) this issue of Beaver Tales is full of propos-als that are going to let us continue to maintain our outstanding

reputation for being a fun, friendly and helpful organization. Just a few of the items to note:

Becau• se of some excellent leadership, there is no need for a dues in-crease. Our Lead-in rallies will no longer be "sales rallies" tied to the needs of •FMCA and dealers; but will become International "destination" rallies. Communication via the Internet will increase as we save money on •snail mail for voting, membership directories and renewals, while pro-viding for even more online interaction between members.

One of the ways you can use Internet communication to participate in the decisions of the club is on the Forum (beaveramb.org). Among all of the information, advice and helpful contacts you will find there, is a discussion on the new International Rallies. Since these rallies will be self-sustaining (i.e. you will get what you pay for in your rally fees), the club would like to know what you feel is important to include. For instance, do you want rally pins? (Remember, you have to pay for them now.) More importantly, do you want to continue the traditional full bar social hours? Or do you think BYOB or a limited bar would be more attuned to your budget? Would you pay to have service done? What do you think about entertainment? locations? activities? The Forum is a membership benefit. Don't be afraid to take ad-vantage of it and use it to express your ideas as well as learn about the club, the industry and your coach.

One thing we will all need to work on is member growth and retention. With no sales of new coaches (at least for now), we all need to encourage current Beaver owners to join the club. A new link on the BAC web site (beaveramb.org) explains the benefits of membership, gives some member testimoni-als and lets people join the club online. An updated BAC pamphlet will be made available to VPs to hand out to prospective members they meet along the road. If you would like to become a true Beaver “Ambassador,” you may download the pamphlet off the “About BAC” link on the web site (beaver-amb.org), print it out and do the same.

Another item you may share with potential members is the creation of a category called “Beaver Guest.” Beaver Guests are owners who are not BAC members, but who may attend one Beaver Rally to see if they like the club before joining. They would follow the same rules as for Friends of Beavers (FOBs). This means the rally must have space available after having been published in at least 2 issues of Beaver Tales.

We welcome YOU to join our growing organization as a very special BEAVER AMBASSADOR!The Beaver Ambassador Club (BAC), a chapter of Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA), invites you to join our international motor home organization located throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. We are divided into five regions to bet-ter represent you.. Beaver Tales, this quarterly publication, presents club news, rally reports and upcoming events. The online Membership Directory helps to acquaint you with new friends in the club. Ownership of a Beaver motor home, membership in FMCA and a desire for fun and friendship are the only qualifications for BAC membership.

There are two ways you can check out BAC before joining. First, go to beaveramb.org. There you will find specifics about the club, its rallies, including pictures, and helpful links. There is also a link to the Forum, an excellent source of information about maintaining your coach and RV lifestyle. Second, check out the rallies listed in this magazine, select one you would like to attend and call the rally master to see if the conditions have been met for you to attend as a Beaver Guest. You may pay your rally fees and attend one rally without joining the club. We are that sure that you will enjoy the experience.

Dues: First year, $40 (includes name badges and computer mailing setup). Dues following first year, $30 annually. All ap-plications received after June 1 apply to the following fiscal year (October 1 to September 30). Please include: Canada + $3, Other International + $5, payable in US funds.
