The end of the year is definitely creeping closer and everyone needs to keep an eye on our dates and special events. Keep reading the newsletter as this will inform you of what is happening and please check bags for notes. Have a great weekend everyone! Leadership and our School Captains and Vice Captains for 2019 I would like to acknowledge and congratulate all candidates who delivered their speeches to a very attentive audience at the special leadership assembly last Monday. Their confidence and sincerity in talking about our values and what leadership means to them was outstanding. I felt very proud of the group of students who also congratulated each other on their efforts. Congratulations to all! You are all leaders in your own right. Yesterday afternoon, Thursday 6 December, at a special assembly we did announce the four students who will be our captains and vice captains for 2019. Their positions will be announced at the Night of Celebration. Congratulations to Paris, Maddie, Lucas and Abigail. Night of Celebration This year our night is taking a similar format as last year. All students are involved in a musical. We have been madly rehearsing and as our night draws closer everyone is becoming quite excited. On Monday 10 December all students will be taken up to Menai High School for our very special technical rehearsal. On Tuesday evening 11 December students are to arrive at 5.15pm for a 5.30pm start. We are looking forward to showcasing our musical as well as presenting all the well deserved awards. This night is certainly always one to remember so we hope that all parents will be able to attend. Reports Student reports will be sent home next Friday. We have followed the same reporting procedures as last year Semester 2. All reports have an A-E Scale. Your child except for Kindergarten students and students with special learning needs will receive an A to E in all curriculum areas. This scale is explained on the front of each report. Below is an explanation of the A to E scale. A-Outstanding: The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations. B-High: The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.

The Salvation Army Christmas Food Drive and Christmas Disco Each Semester, the SRC try to donate to a charity to help those families in a less fortunate position. This year, students will donate a non-perishable food item to the Salvation Army which they will use to create Christmas Hampers for families in need. Students are encouraged to bring in a non-perishable food item to school between Monday and Friday in Week 9. These items will be placed in a Christmas box in their classrooms and will be collected by the Salvation Army on the day of our Disco. The SRC will be running the Christmas Disco on Monday 17 December. The theme is ‘Christmas’, so students are encouraged to wear Christmas themed clothing on that day. The K-2 disco will be held in the morning session and the 3-6 disco will be held in the middle session. The SRC will be working hard on decorating the hall for this festive occasion. Handball Competition Our annual handball competition has begun this week. Students are competing against others in their stage and are taking part in one of the three Competitions- Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles or Mixed Doubles. The competition will run through Week 9. We would like to thank Mrs Burke for giving up her lunch times to assist with the running of the competitions. Best of luck to all competitors. SRC Talent Quest Our Annual Talent Quest will be held on Wednesday 19 December. Students may perform individually or in a group. If music is part of the item it must be suitable and checked prior to submission. Once again, we ask that parents please check the lyrics before students bring the music to school, and the teachers will do a final check. Auditions for K-2 will be on Tuesday 11 December and 3-6 will be on Wednesday 12 December. Maria Panourgias & Carolyn Rider

On Wednesday 12th December (after a change in date due to bad weather) Indigenous students from Kindergarten to Year 12 from Sutherland Shire will be attending The Sutherland Local Aboriginal Education Consultancy Group (AECG) Inaugural One Mob Day at Endeavour Sports High School. Alfords Point Public School is excited to be sending our 5 Indigenous students with Mrs McDonald to participate in the day. The driving force behind this day is to give the Indigenous students in the local area an opportunity to connect with each other and local agencies in a fun filled day of Culture, Traditional Indigenous Games, Dance, Entertainment and they will also get the chance to meet various special guests. Activities will include a fair type of organisation where children can participate in variety of dance, sport, games and art activities lead by high school students. There will also be a number of external groups running activities including the Sharks, Bunnings, Kurranulla, Head Space, Deadly Choices and more.

All students have improved their swimming skills during the swimming program this semester. Today the students practised their water survival strategies. The students had to jump into the water fully dressed and then practise floating and/or treading water until help arrived. The students enjoyed rescuing each other. Anne Brown Assistant Principal
