Camps
Next week the year 3/ 4 and year 5/ 6
students will be on camp. The year 3/
4’s will be heading to Camp
Curumbene which is an adventure and
activity camp where their initiative,
teamwork and leadership skills will be
tested. The Year 5/ 6 students are
heading to Canberra to continue their
work studying and learning about
Government and our nation’s capital.
While a busy week for the students and
teachers their agenda is jam packed
with a visit to Parliament House and
possibly meeting up with some
politicians an exciting prospect. The
year 2 sleepover and P-2 BBQ is coming
up soon on Thursday the 4th of
December, a fun night out and also the
start of our camping program for the
year two’s. It’s a great way to build
resilience for students in preparation to
the camps in years 3-6.
VIP day in Prep/ Foundation
Today we had many Very Important
People (VIP’s) visiting the junior building
to witness the student work completed
across the year. The students love
sharing their achievements and the
VIP’s were extremely proud of their
children/ grandchildren. Thanks also to
the PA for putting on a morning tea for
the VIP’s afterwards. Photos of the
morning are included in the coming
pages.
MVIMP Concert tonight
The annual MVIMP concert at the
Moonee Valley Race Course is tonight
at 7pm. Tickets were sent home with
students last night and can still be
purchased at the door if needed.
Good luck to all the students and
especially the year three students
performing for the first time.
Transition to 2015
Our Prep/ Foundation students began
their transition sessions last Friday and
will continue to attend the next two
Friday sessions. After the three
familiarisation activities in July, August
and September the new Prep/
Foundation students settled in quickly
learning about the routines in the junior
building. Upstairs Rebecca McMahon
ran the transition/ information session
for the parents where the curriculum,
welfare, school activities, policies plus
lots of other important information is
discussed. All Prep, year 2 and 4
students have been participating in
‘Move Up’ sessions held last week and
over the next fortnight. These sessions,
three in total are designed to prepare
students for the curriculum and routines
of the new year level. Students have
the opportunities to ask questions,
clarify and interact with teachers/
students to ease the transition for 2015.
If parents have any questions
regarding these transitions please see
your child’s teacher or visit our
Transitions blog at: http://

ITALIAN DAY—2-014
The students at Moonee Ponds Primary school experienced a little taste of
Italian culture and language on Friday 7th
November 2014. The Italian Day
festa was a celebration of the culmination of student learning and achieve-
ment in the acquisition of the Italian language.
On the day students dressed up in Italian colours or costumes that were
synonymous with Italy. We had gondoliers, chefs, waiters and waitresses,
pizza makers, some ‘fashionistas’ and there was even a gladiator. Well
done everyone for getting into the spirit of the day.
Students also attended the ‘Aladino’ spettacolo (show). There was lots of
singing, dancing, laughter and interaction with the actors and the audi-
ence.
Students also learnt about the Italian artist ‘Michelangelo’ and had the op-
portunity experience what it would have been like to paint the ceiling of
The Sistine Chapel.
The day ended with a celebratory parade of costumes.
Mille grazie to all the students and teachers for making Italian Day such a
huge success!
More pictures of the day can be found on the Italian Blog Page http://

Tomorrow- on Thursday 20th of Novem-
ber, we will be having an Animal Dress
Up Day, to raise funds for the RSPCA
and for our quiet garden area which
will be located at the back of the prep
area. Some of the activities will be a P-
2 and 3-6 colouring competition, com-
mencing Friday 14th November and ac-
tivities to make things for our quiet gar-
den at lunch time on Thursday 20th No-
vember. We encourage all students to
dress up in anything animal related
such as a shirt with a picture of an ani-
mal on it or an animal costume. To
dress up, there will be a gold coin do-
nation.
Participation in all activities will require
a gold coin donation. Colouring in pic-
tures will be provided on donation, by
SRC reps visiting classrooms. Colouring
in pictures must be submitted by recess
on Thursday 20th November, and must
be clearly labelled with your name and
class.

Dear Parent,
The following information has been provided to me by the Department of Education
and Early Childhood Development.
Yours sincerely.
Sean Byrne
School Council President
Changes to the Education Maintenance Allowance
From 1 January 2015, the government will provide extra financial support directly to Vic-
toria’s neediest schools instead of providing the Education Maintenance Allowance di-
rectly to parents.
Parents will not be able to apply for the Education Maintenance Allowance in 2015.
The money will be allocated to eligible schools through schools’ core operational fund-
ing mechanism, with the neediest schools receiving the most funding. Not all schools
will be receiving funding in 2015.
This change to how the money is distributed was required by the funding agreement
with the Commonwealth government to make sure Victorian schools receive increased
funding that will benefit all students and, in particular, those from schools with concen-
trated disadvantage.
The majority of parents who received the EMA payment already elected to provide the
money directly to their school.
If you are experiencing financial hardship, you can speak to your principal about how
you can access assistance from the State Schools’ Relief Committee for clothing and
uniforms.
The end of the EMA direct payments to parents will not affect any other payment you
may be receiving such as the Schoolkids Bonus, which is provided directly to eligible
parents to assist with education costs.
If you have any questions about this change, please speak to you’re the office staff or
Matt..
