Dear Families,

Cross Country Today we once again saw our students endeavour and persistence on display at the cross country. A real strength of our students is their attitude to challenges. They try their hardest and support one another. Very impressive to all who were able to attend.

Thank you and congratulations to Mr Blackall, staff, children, helpers and supporters!

Year 6 Camp:

What a great experience for both the students and adults who attended! The food, adventures, weather

and challenges all contributed to a terrific experience and great memories. We did greet some tired

children on Wednesday evening and Thursday at school.

Our staff and parents who attended allow our children to experience a terrific camp. Thank you

Chilwell Fair

With only a few weeks to go we are humming along. The weather has been booked, the

rides are in place, managers are excited, rosters are filling (if you are not on one then

contact your manager or the school and get involved!!!!), posters are up. Now we just

need the crowds to come and enjoy the evening together. We have a number of opportu-

nities to advertise the Fair.

1. We have A4 size posters, perfect for the office, shop or car window. Just drop into the office to pick

one or more up.

2. Fence boards. These are just under one metre square. If you live on a busy road and could place one on the fence again drop into the office and pick one up.

Don't forget to bring along friends and relatives and it will give all of us an opportunity to "show off" our school to others.

Letter box drop What a great way to get fit and enjoy our community. We need people to drop off a

flyer in letterboxes inviting our community to join the fun of the Fair. If you are able to do this, drop into the

office and pick up some flyers.

Grange Challenge: These tickets are selling fast !! The opportunity to win a $750 bottle of Grange and enjoy it with friends, family or by yourself is too much to miss. There will only be 100 tickets sold so please don’t be disappointed, get your ticket at the office NOW

Dear Families,

This year we have started our 4th year of the BringIT2Chilwell (BIT2CPS) iPad program. Just a few remind-ers about the program..

It is optional and you can join in whenever you like. Years 3-6 have been involved previously and Year 2’s are trialling personal devices this year.

(Thanks to those who have supported this initiative – it has been amazing in science to see what the kids record, reflect and share with parents via Seesaw). This has been an evolution of the program and we are keen to see how they use the devices to enhance and share their learning.

We recommend any iPad newer than an iPad 2 (the one with the bigger rectangular charger) as the new apps or any updates require iOS10 or greater.

An iPad mini is ok Get a good strong cover! Apps – each class will notify families of the apps being used and we won’t ask for any more

than $30 per year to be spent on apps. If 3G or 4G capable, please take out the SIM card as we cannot manage what the students

access on that network. We add a ‘certificate’ that enables wifi here at school – controlled by DET. No iPads in the playground – before, during or after school. They stay safely in the schoolbag! Seesaw, Showbie and Google are used to share information. School work, photos, etc with

families. We encourage families to have cybersafe discussions with their children and develop rules

and expectations of use at home, just as we do at school. The Alannah and Madeleine Foundation have great resources for parents and families if you need some advice.

Please speak with your child’s teacher if you have any questions or visit the school website and look for the BringIT2Chilwell link.

I look forward to seeing more posts on the various platforms of our student work.

Our You Can Do It focus for term 1 is GETTING ALONG

Congratulations to the following students who received an award.

Our YCDI! Focus for this term is Getting Along.

Getting Along means to be caring and nice to those who look up to you and not exclude any-one. As A.A. Milon once said “A little consideration, a little thought of others makes all the difference”.

2018 Wooden Boat Festival

The Royal Geelong Yacht Club are hosting their annual Wooden Boat Festival this long weekend and many

Grade 3- 6 students at Chilwell have worked all term to produce a variety of artworks that represent

wooden boats, with the theme “Endeavours – Wind; Water; Courage.”

It has been a great experience to create art works that engage the wider community and Chilwell students

have over 30 works selected to be displayed at the Art Awards.

Congratulations to these students who have recognised individually:

Scarlett Mapleson who was awarded Imaginative Excellence.

Archie Frost who won Best Model.

Ted Bain for Interpretive Excellence.

Those students will be presented with an award by the Geelong Gallery on Monday 12th March at 11.00 at

the Main Stage at the Festival and the Art Show runs all weekend at the Sailing School. Details on Yacht

Club website.

I will confirm names of all students involved when I receive confirmation from Art Show organiser. Well

done to every student who planned, took risks with their work, experimented and made an extra effort

with this project.

Dear Parents, A parent helpers course will be held for parents who wish to help in classroom. The dates are: Friday 9th March at 2:30 Friday 16th March at 2:30 Friday 20th April at 2:30 These three sessions cover different topics. It would be great if you can make all three dates. We strongly recommend that all parent helpers participate in this parent helpers course before you work in classrooms. This course will give you an outline of school procedures, classroom practices and a strong understanding of what takes place in Literacy and Numeracy Classrooms. Please return below if you will participate in parent helpers course to the office by 7th March. Regards Mr Perrott
