Sports day was a huge success helped by the fine weather on

the day. All Primary students were involved on that day represent-

ing their respective houses. The participants were divided based

on class groups and they moved from one activity station to an-

other to complete the assigned tasks. The eight activity stations

were Bean Bag Balance & Throw, Obstacle Race, Football, Egg

on Spoon, Basketball, Throw and Catch, Sprinter and Waiters

Race. Through these sports events, we could see sportsmanship,

friendship and teamwork. Secondary school students were given

the opportunity to take on leadership roles by volunteering them-

selves to assist and to ensure the smooth running of all activities

for the day. Medals were given out to all participants at the end of

the event. Mercury Blue emerged as the overall champion for the

day. Congratulations! A big THANK YOU to everyone namely, the

participants, senior school volunteers, teachers, staff and last but

not least, the supportive parents. We truly appreciate your

presence and support in making this sports day a remarkable

one.

Source & Pictures courtesy of

Mrs Bernie Victor and Pn Siti Mariam

Congratulations to our team from SM Tenby for

winning the Mighty Minds Competition for Upper

Secondary Category on 17 May 2014 in the Ipoh

Parade Shopping Mall. The winning team consisting

of Victor Ho, Dhipan Raj (KBSM4) and Tang Chi

Hoe (KBSM5) went through 3 rounds of the competi-

tion before emerging as the Champion in their

category.

In the second round of the competition they had to

build a model based on the themes given and then

make an oral presentation on how their model is

linked to the theme. The model they built and their

impressive presentation skills gave them the winning

edge over the rest of the team. At the final stage a

quiz was held and they had to answer 3 questions

individually and 6 as a team. It was indeed a

rigorous competition and we are very proud that our

boys have emerged as deserving champions.

The Year 3 Mother’s Day Assembly was held on 9th May 2014, in conjunction with

the annual celebration of the Mother’s Day event in honour of our mothers. Kharun

Zuriel Dhaliwal (Year 3 Blue) and Jesselynn Lee Jia Ning (Year 3 Green) were

selected as emcees for the event.

The first item was a poem recital by the Year 3 students entitled ‘My Mother Kept A

Garden’. Then they rendered a song with the title ‘Mommy I Love You’ to show

their love for their mothers. Later, they paid a tribute to their mothers by sharing

their thoughts about them.

The Year 3 Blue took the stage after that and performed the “Zumba Mama”

dance. Next, the Year 3 Green danced to a jazzy song by the Beatles, ‘When I Am

64”.

The Year 3 parents were then invited on stage to be with their children. The mothers were presented with a stalk of flower each as a token of appreciation. The auditorium turned into a party when the parents started to dance with their children. Lastly, the teachers and students from the floor also participated and danced to the tune of the song called ‘Happy’.

all the research and time management

skills they used in creating their perfor-

Year 5 Field Trip

Year 5 went on a field trip to Planetarium Negara, Kuala Lumpur on

Tuesday, 6th May 2014. The trip had been arranged in relation to their

IPC topic, Mission to Mars. They went to a movie called ‘Journey to the

Stars’. It was awesome and they felt like they were in space!

There they explored the planetarium and found an anti-gravity room. It was one of the interesting sections in the planetarium. Apart from that, they also had the opportunity to go up a tower to enjoy the view of KL. What an awesome trip for the Year 5!

Repeat, Repeat, Repeat

“Special needs students need their environment to structure

externally what they can't structure internally on their own.

They need structure. They need repetition. They need direc-

tion. They need limits. They need reminders. With the help

from our school Senco, Ms Kelly Davies, she worked out some

strategies for my special needs students.

I have the strategies written down in a small cards for the rules

and expectation as a reminder. The students will be reassured

by knowing what is expected of them. To make my expectation

explicit, a reward system is used for the target that they meet.

Repetition, direction, reminders and consistency are what we

need in the LEARNING PROCESS of the special needs stu-

dents.” Florence Wong (Year 2 Green class teacher)

Year Two IPC topic, ‘Water World’. The Year Two children

truly enjoyed this exciting Entry Point which was held on 8

May 2014 at the Key Stage 1 field. The children were put

into teams to compete against each other in various water-

themed games.

All Year Two children participated and showed

fantastic enthusiasm to complete the five stations of water-

themed games of ‘soak it up’, ‘water relay’, ‘don’t spill it’,

leaking challenge’, and ‘spill no more’. House points were

given as a reward for their hard work.

The energetic Year Two children also showed good practice of the personal goals during the Water

Sports Day. Communication, resilience, cooperation, re-spect, and morality are among the personal goals which they practised. Year Two children, you all have done a

splendid job! Bravo!
