FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Kia ora koutou Wow! We made it. Prizegiving Firstly, HUGE THANKS to everyone who worked hard to make our prize giving’s so successful. It was lovely to see parents, caregivers and whanau there to support and celebrate our student’s achievement. Thanks to Jeremy Roberts and Roy Tetai for your work on the grounds, to Charles Gillies Smith and Roger MacLean, for helping out with the hall seating. Mrs Denise Harris, for your work with certificates, to Miss Osborn, for the slide shows and to Mrs Wylie for the flowers, to teachers, for presenting the awards, to Matua Tapuraka, for the kapa haka performance and karakia and to Mrs Beryl Harvey, for doing a stunning job with the organisation and programme. Last, but not least, congratulations to all of our prize winners. Christmas Assembly This morning, Whanau 18 and Mr Needs hosted the MMI Christmas Extravaganza. It was a wonderful Christmas celebration, enjoyed by all.
Leavers Assembly On Monday morning, at 9.00 am, we farewell our staff and year 8 students who are leaving MMI. It will be an informal farewell hosted by the student council. Meet the Teacher Yesterday, we hosted year 6’s and their families, on site, to meet the teacher. It was great to see all of you here. This was the first time that we have done this. Despite a few organisation glitches, the feedback from students and families was overwhelmingly positive. This was a great opportunity for Year 6’s to see their classroom, meet their teacher (where possible) and to find out who else might be in their class. Unfortunately, three staff members were unable to attend, as they have not relocated to the Bay of Plenty. From time to time errors are made with class placement. The early meet the teacher gave us an opportunity to address any early concerns. Year 8’s were also notified of their class placement in their end of year report given out yesterday. Year in review We have had an incredibly successful year. The 2017 national standards data is the best ever, with 80% of our students at/above the standard for reading and over 70% for writing and mathematics. This is an outstanding result. Although, still waiting our final report, the verbal feedback from the Education Review Office was very affirming. We have also continued to achieve outstanding results including a myriad of national and regional titles and a whopping 3rd placing, out of 303 schools, in the NZ Anchor Aims Games. And always, we achieve our successes with humility and the very best manners.
