Hi, ladies, These are long, lazy “dog days,” times when no one wants to move a muscle if we can avoid it. Well, despite that, I am going to ask you to act. Luckily, what I want you to do can all be done in the comfort of your AC. • The Murder Mystery Dinner, our special event on Saturday, August 13th, demands your immediate attention! The reservation form is on the SWC Website. Act quickly on this one! • Also on our Website is the form for our popular wine-tasting party to be held on Friday, September 9th. Planned somewhat differently this year, the party will be a bit of a challenge and lots of fun. Space is limited so get your form and check in soon. • Lastly, I am going to ask you to think – and then to act. NOW is the time to think about how you can help our organization in 2017 –maybe by joining the 2017 Board or perhaps in a smaller role. Since our club does not run on its own, we need smart, talented women, who can get involved. Whether you can offer a lot of help or a little, please act by contacting me or Regina Graham at [email protected]. Carpe diem, y’all, and I really mean it. Act today! I want to hear from you. Cordially, Marie Rozman SWC 2016 President [email protected]

SWC 2016 Board

No official Board meeting in July, but that doesn’t put a stop to all

of the behind-the-scenes activities, including a ‘”business luncheon”

to start the 2016 to 2017 transition. Pictured are Regina Graham, our 2017

President, and Marie Rozman..

The Tritches’ Piece of Paradise: 6 Grand Lake Circle By Ed and Mary Tritch

After 30 plus years of work relocating us up and down the East Coast, we are happy to call Savannah our place for retirement. After choosing 6 Grand Lake Circle, our exploration of creating the perfect yard began. Grass was a priority, and it has taken Ed eight years to find the best plan that supports healthy centipede grass. Our existing foundation plants continue to thrive with bi-yearly fertilizing and loving care; and we designed additional beds and enhanced existing ones throughout our yard for better curb appeal. Our front porch, an extension to our home, is created with a comfortable seating area, plants, and décor with a coastal flair. At first we experimented with a multitude of plant varietals only to see them succumb to the deer visiting the restaurant we created just for them. Then Mary joined the Southbridge Garden Club and learned a lot, and over the years we have continued to educate ourselves to make better decisions on plant choices throughout the yard. Society Garlic, Angelonia, Vinca, Curcuma, Ixora, Anise, and Iris (African, Bearded, and Brazilian ) have been the most colorful and successful varietals thus far. We also added Sabel, Windmill, and Pindo palms to our back landscape to accent our pool and surrounding gardens for that coastal feel in our lagoon setting. In addition, hardscapes and containers give our landscape a multi-dimensional flair bringing our personalities into the design and giving us stories to tell when family and friends visit.

By Beth McClurg Q: When and where is the 2016 SWC Holiday Boutique being held? A: Sunday, November 13, from 2:30 to 5:30 PM at Vickery’s/Southbridge Golf Club. Q: That’s still months away! Why are you telling me about this now? A: So you can mark your calendar if you want to shop and so you can register as a Vendor if you make something that you would like to sell. Q: Who is eligible to participate as a Vendor? A: You must be an adult Southbridge resident, and the products sold at your booth must be made by you or a family member/friend who will be assisting you at your booth. You do not have to be a Southbridge Women’s Club member or a woman. Yes, men are encouraged to participate as Vendors and as shoppers! Q: What types of products sold particularly well last year? A: The top sellers were a variety of homemade food items (pastries, baked goods, jams, and jellies) as well as original artwork, handmade jewelry, baby clothes, Christmas ornaments, cards, stationery, embroidered and knitted items, decorated bags and totes, garden/herb markers, wooden items, doll clothes, and photography. Q: When does Vendor registration close? A: Registration will close in October or when all booth locations are taken, whichever comes first. Q: I’m interested! How do I get more details? A: Just send an email to [email protected] to request a Registration Form with additional event details, which will be sent to you via e-mail for your review and completion.

Southbridge Service

Dinner for the Ronald McDonald House The Southbridge Service Group prepared dinner at the Ronald McDonald House on July 13th. Helping to prepare this meal were Barbara Billips, Joanne McCollister, Debbie Yeagley, Vicki Chubin, Liz Casella, and Joyce Zehl. Our volunteers prepared chicken tortilla casserole, black bean and corn salad, and peach crumble. Sounds delicious! To join this group or to learn more about the work they do in our community, contact Vicki Chubin at [email protected].

For more information about this event or to join The Dog Network, contact Marie Foley at [email protected].

August 15 – 30 - “Baby Shower” Gifts We are sponsoring a baby shower to benefit One Love Animal Rescue, Inc. From August 15 - 30 items may be dropped off on the front porches of two homes – Marie Foley’s home at 219 Wedgefield Crossing and Teresa Gable’s home at 105 Egret Point. These donations will be collected and then stored in a cool area to maintain freshness and integrity. This event is open to the entire Southbridge community. Please tell your neighbors, friends and family. We want this to be a success for the Animal Rescue and for our neighborhood! The “shower” will be held on September 12 at 7 PM at Teresa Gable’s home. For more details please go to The Dog Network Interest Group page of the SWC Website at http://www.southbridgewomensclub.org/the-dog-network.
